First of all, I won't talk about the Speedmaster's lunar history here; others have already done so, and sometimes very well. Instead, let's look at the Speedmaster as it is, that is, a hand-wound chronograph. In these functions, it fulfills its role very well; the chronograph is very readable and accurate, and the ritual of winding it every two days is more than pleasant. I've owned many Speedmasters (limited editions, 321s, triple dates, etc.), but if you want to enter the world of vintage, this 145022 from the late 1980s is the best entry point! (And all Speedmasters from the 1990s, for that matter). They offer an excellent compromise between vintage patina and modern quality, without the price of the 1960s models or the current ones! The patina of the Omega Speedmaster is a subtle, sometimes discreet, but oh so evocative chapter in the history of this legendary watch. It's a slow, organic, and intimate transformation—a testament to the passing of time, engraved not in stone, but on the dial, hands, and hour markers. Until the mid-1990s, Omega used tritium (marked "T SWISS MADE T" on the dial). This luminescent material, now obsolete, has the charm of perishable things. Over the years, the original off-white turns honey yellow, soft ivory, or sometimes caramel beige, depending on storage conditions. The patina of a Speedmaster is not an artifice. It is not intentional; it is the product of time, use, and light. It whispers stories without shouting them, and it is precisely in this muted elegance that it stands out: a nobility not displayed, but lived. When patina is noble, it is the discreet gold of time. This is why there will always be a vintage Speedmaster in my collection.

So, after several purchases, I'm the owner of a real Omega. I have a 1960 De Ville and a 1986 Day Date, but my desire was too strong... I wanted the Holy Grail, the Omega Speedmaster Professional. The question was whether I should go for a recent model with an ultra-modern mechanism with a transparent caseback that allows the manual mechanism to be anchored. By chance, I came across a vintage watch specialist near Bordeaux, who was selling an original 145.012 SP 67 model, which I had the chance to try on and get to know, and thus fall under its spell. It is authentic and almost perfect; its Decimal dial makes it rare, and a small crack on the same dial makes it authentic. After opening the caseback and removing its anti-magnetic bell, the watch reveals its inner self with this mechanism and its unique and beautiful history. An incredibly authentic piece.

A pre-owned Speedmaster acquired after a long search. For me, it represents the best of both worlds: a sapphire crystal dial revealing the bronze-toned caliber 863, and the warmth of hesalite for the classic upper dial. Dating from 1995, it is remarkably precise and boasts a natural patina that's pleasing to the eye. A tool watch, I wear it regularly without treating it like jewelry or a collector's item. Its 1479 bracelet is easily adjustable and remains comfortable even after several hours on the wrist. A model I enjoy wearing with a t-shirt, an Oxford shirt, or a black wool sweater. Lastly, its magnificent caliber 863 is a good introduction when I talk about my passion for watches. This transparency allows me to explain how a manual mechanism works. Eyes light up at the complexity of the workings, and questions are sure to arise. Perfect for satisfying curiosity and going beyond price or brand.

After more than ten years of being interested in watchmaking, I still wonder how it took so long for this Omega to join my collection, this watch is one of the most legendary in my eyes, since the beginning of my interest in watchmaking I have heard so much about this watch, so I tried it several times without taking the plunge, always bothered by the bracelet of the previous reference both in size and also by the mirror-polished links, the arrival of this new reference was obvious, life has made it take a few more years to take the plunge, which I absolutely do not regret. A bracelet much more comfortable than the previous one in the hesalite version, it is also entirely brushed (the version I chose) I will learn to discover it over time and take new photos for you. The genuine Moonwatch, reference ST 105.012-66 in its CB version, worn by various Apollo astronauts. Here, it features a decimal bezel and a JB Champion strap, just like the astronauts', as it's easily adjustable. Along with the 105.003 and the 145.012, this is one of the three most authentic Speedmasters for any space adventure enthusiast.

When I first went to my now regular AD, it was to see this speed (and then several others later...). It caught my eye, and I only hesitated for 24 hours to come back and buy it... Its dial, announced as 42mm, is not that big of a 42, due to its asymmetry, in fact, for those who, like me, have a child's wrist, this watch is more like a 39. Its reputation is well established, it doesn't have much left to prove, but I especially appreciated its bracelet, its simple dial and its perfect lines. For my part, I opted for the sapphire crystal, the case back allows us to see the caliber 3861 nestled inside. For any good collector, it is a must!

This version 35705000 driven by the Omega 1861 caliber is the second watch in my collection acquired in 2011 just after my sub. After all these years, still the same intense pleasure to wind it up to wake it up. Nothing more to say about this icon presented so many times. A must have that will remain in my collection for life.

I wanted a watch to mark my engagement, a beautiful ring for the lady and therefore a watch for the gentleman. I was eyeing a Seamaster AT that was very rational in my eyes. I dared to ask to try a Speedmaster "to see" and quite simply a big smile, an emotion of pride, of naivety to be part of the heritage of this watch when putting it on my wrist. 10 months later it is mine and I can put it on my wrist every day! What I like about this watch is the routine that goes with it: - take it out of its box every morning just before leaving for work - wind it up - contemplate it during the work commute - take it off and feel the warmth of the steel after a day on the wrist - put it back on its cushion and its box to see it again the next day It is a watch that you can feel on your wrist, its weight is perfect, the 42 diameter is contained. The bracelet is very comfortable and has a beautiful effect. On the other hand, it is a watch that I feel is technical and fragile and that I consider as a jewel. It is a perfect pair for weekends and holidays with a diving watch to be without constraints.

After having thought carefully about acquiring a speedmaster in my collection, I decided to buy it new (2023) and in sapphire in order to admire the movement. I think that for all collectors, a speedmaster is essential. Concerning all Omega models, I bought it for its history, its chronograph, its refinement. Recently, I changed its bracelet for an Ostrich bracelet (gold) and I rediscover it. There is no denying that the leather bracelets suit it perfectly and allow you to change your style.
