The Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial, launched in 2021, is a Swiss integrated-bracelet sports watch designed by Sergio Godoy Di Renzo and inspired by the golden age of jet travel. Its “Mondial” name refers to the period when aircraft such as the Boeing 707 dramatically reduced distances between major capitals and transformed the way people travelled. Rather than directly copying the codes of a traditional pilot’s watch, Direnzo translates this inspiration into a retro-futuristic design: a soft-edged stainless-steel case, integrated bracelet, bowl-shaped dial and highly graphic hands.
The first generation measures 40 mm with a 48 mm lug-to-lug length and uses 316L stainless steel with a surface treatment stated at 800 HV. It is water-resistant to 100 metres thanks notably to a screw-down crown and uses an Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 with Incabloc shock protection. Since launch, the Mondial has appeared in numerous colours, meteorite dials and several evolutions, culminating in a new 38 mm version in 2025.
The DRZ 04 Mondial does not attempt to hide its membership of the broad integrated-bracelet sports-watch category, but it avoids the highly aggressive edges often associated with the genre. Its middle case instead uses rounded volumes, comparatively soft transitions between surfaces and polished bevels that visually lighten the complete watch. The bracelet directly extends the lines of the case and progressively tapers towards the clasp. The concave bowl-shaped dial forms the essential distinguishing feature of the DRZ 04 Mondial. This architecture had already been used by Direnzo on the DRZ 02 in 2018 and here creates visual continuity between the dial edge, case and bracelet. Manufacturing requires more complex CNC machining than a conventional flat disc and creates very noticeable depth when the watch is viewed from an angle.
Standard dials are offered depending on generation with matte or fumé sunburst finishing. Blue, grey, green, white, light blue, red, yellow, purple and other shades appear successively. Meteorite versions instead use Muonionalusta material whose natural patterns make every surface slightly different. The applied indexes sit along the slope of the dial, further strengthening its three-dimensional appearance. The applied indexes and BGW9 Super-LumiNova provide clear reading while allowing the dial geometry to remain visually dominant. The hands are partially openworked and the seconds hand has a circular tip that becomes an important graphic component. On date references, the window is placed at 6 o’clock to preserve horizontal balance and its disc is generally matched to the dial colour.
The date itself deserves particular attention because Direnzo has attempted to avoid the appearance of a window simply cut into the surface. The long seconds hand and its circular element visually pass over the aperture, creating additional animation every minute. No-date versions simplify the dial further and can appear closer to a sporty dress watch. The choice between date and no date primarily changes aesthetic balance rather than the fundamental everyday function of the watch. The latest generations specifically allow these two approaches to be selected across several colours. The Mondial nevertheless remains a simple three-hand watch: no chronograph, no GMT and no displayed power reserve. Its originality comes from design and volume rather than an accumulation of complications.
The first generation measures 40 mm in diameter excluding the crown, 48 mm in length and approximately 10.8 to 11.9 mm thick depending on generation and the sapphire crystal fitted. The case is machined from 316L stainless steel and receives a surface treatment stated at 800 HV to improve scratch resistance compared with untreated steel. The crown screws down and the caseback is also screwed, with a sapphire opening revealing the movement. The 100-metre water-resistance rating allows the Mondial to go beyond the role of a simple integrated-bracelet dress watch. It can accompany most everyday activities and swimming when its water resistance is correctly maintained. It is not, however, designed as a dive watch: there is no diving bezel or immersion scale.
The bracelet represents a major part of the project. It is also made from 800 HV-treated 316L stainless steel and every link is articulated, allowing the structure to follow wrist curvature relatively easily. Early models principally use a butterfly clasp, but Direnzo also supplies or offers a folding clasp with three micro-adjustment positions. The newest generations can receive an on-the-fly clasp developed with Nodus. The high degree of bracelet articulation is one of the principal reasons for the comfort regularly associated with the DRZ 04 Mondial. Weight sits around 150 grams with all links fitted on the 40 mm watches, a reasonable value for an all-steel piece. The bracelet tapers sufficiently to avoid a constant sense of bulk from the case through to the clasp.
The integrated bracelet nevertheless affects personalisation options. Unlike a watch with conventional lugs accepting almost any strap of matching width, the Mondial requires end pieces adapted to the case shape. Direnzo has nevertheless developed dedicated rubber straps in several colours and certain generations use drilled lugs to simplify changes. The metal bracelet remains the option that best preserves the original Mondial design. Rubber can reduce weight, increase comfort in hot conditions and turn the watch into a more casual sports piece. When buying pre-owned, the presence of the complete steel bracelet and all its links matters because replacing specific integrated components later can be more difficult than sourcing a conventional strap.
The DRZ 04 Mondial has used the Sellita SW200-1 in Elaboré grade with Incabloc shock protection since launch. This Swiss automatic movement uses a very widely distributed architecture and operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz. It powers hours, minutes, central seconds and, depending on variation, the date. It offers manual winding and hacking seconds for precise setting. The Elaboré-grade SW200-1 primarily gives the Mondial a familiar Swiss movement that is straightforward to service. Direnzo states approximately 38 hours of power reserve for the historical DRZ 04 generations. This autonomy is lower than the 60 to 80 hours provided by several contemporary movements but remains consistent with the proven architecture of the calibre.
Elaboré represents a higher level than Standard within Sellita’s movement hierarchy, but the Mondial is not presented as an officially certified chronometer. Actual regulation can therefore differ from one watch to another. Assembly and quality control are carried out in Switzerland, followed by a final inspection before dispatch. Accuracy should be considered that of a good Swiss mechanical movement rather than a laboratory chronometric promise. A watchmaker can readily regulate the movement if its deviation becomes inconvenient. The calibre is visible through the sapphire back, although its decoration remains comparatively industrial and the principal aesthetic interest of the watch is clearly concentrated on its dial and case.
One practical advantage of the SW200-1 is its widespread use. Many watchmakers are extremely familiar with the architecture and access to components is considerably easier than for a proprietary movement manufactured in very small quantities. The Incabloc system provides additional protection for the regulating organ against ordinary shocks. This long-term repairability suits a watch intended for regular wear rather than a purely experimental object. The approximately 38-hour reserve nevertheless means that a Mondial removed on Friday evening will often have stopped before Monday morning. For an owner rotating several watches, this limitation is more noticeable than for someone wearing the DRZ 04 every day.
(2021) Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial Blue First Sunburst Generation:
The blue version forms part of the five configurations offered when the Mondial is launched. The Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial reference not communicated has a 40 mm 316L stainless-steel case, 48 mm length and thickness around 10.8 to 11.9 mm depending on production measurement and sapphire configuration. Its surface treatment reaches 800 HV and the crown screws down, while water resistance is 10 ATM. The fumé sunburst blue bowl-shaped dial is CNC machined and receives applied indexes with BGW9 Super-LumiNova. The date is positioned at 6 o’clock and its disc follows the dial tone. The Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour with approximately 38 hours of power reserve. The articulated integrated stainless-steel bracelet closes through a butterfly clasp and an alternative clasp with micro-adjustment is also provided.
(2021) Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial Meteorite First Limited Muonionalusta Series:
The meteorite is the rarest variation of the first series and immediately differs from the coloured fumé dials. The Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial reference not communicated uses a slice of Muonionalusta meteorite whose natural crystalline structure produces a slightly different pattern on every watch. The case retains its 40 mm diameter, 48 mm length, 800 HV-treated 316L steel, screw-down crown, transparent screwed back and 100 metres of water resistance. Its sapphire crystal receives anti-reflective treatment. Applied markers and BGW9 luminous material preserve legibility despite a much more textured surface. The Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 with Incabloc retains a 4 Hz frequency and approximately 38 hours of reserve. The integrated bracelet remains fully articulated. This first meteorite version is limited to only 40 pieces and quickly becomes one of the most difficult configurations to source from the initial generation.
(2022) Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial V2 Light Blue New Palette and Drilled Lugs:
The V2 retains almost the complete 2021 architecture but responds to demand through new colours and several practical details. The Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial V2 reference not communicated in light blue still uses a 40 mm stainless-steel case, 48 mm length, screw-down crown, 100 metres of water resistance and a screwed sapphire caseback. The 800 HV treatment remains on both case and integrated bracelet. Light blue gives the concave dial a much brighter appearance than the first-generation fumé shades and BGW9 remains on the indexes. The Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 with Incabloc is unchanged, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with approximately 38 hours of power reserve. One of the small V2 developments is the addition of drilled lugs intended to simplify strap changes. The watch is delivered with its integrated steel bracelet and butterfly clasp, while a micro-adjustment clasp can be used as an alternative.
(2022) Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial V2 Red Meteorite Limited Red Edition:
The second generation receives a new interpretation of the meteorite whose surface adopts a substantially more dramatic red shade. The Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial V2 reference not communicated retains the 40 mm steel case and 48 mm length, 800 HV scratch-resistant treatment, screw-down crown, transparent caseback and 100 metres of water resistance. Its dial is made from Muonionalusta meteorite and its natural structure remains visible beneath the red colour. Applied indexes, openworked hands and the circular-tipped seconds hand preserve the visual identity of the series. The Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 with Incabloc operates at 4 Hz and provides approximately 38 hours of reserve. Its integrated bracelet uses articulated links and a butterfly clasp. This edition is limited to 50 pieces, placing it among the rarest DRZ 04 watches and one of the versions most clearly differentiated by its dial.
(2023) Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial Yellow Flat Sapphire and Vivid Colour:
The 2023 series changes several details more noticeably and introduces an especially vivid palette. The Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial reference not communicated Yellow retains the 40 mm diameter and 48 mm length but uses a flat anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a stated overall height of only 10.8 mm. Case and bracelet remain 800 HV-treated 316L stainless steel. Water resistance remains 10 ATM thanks notably to the screw-down crown and screwed sapphire caseback. Its yellow bowl-shaped dial has applied indexes and BGW9 while the date remains at 6 o’clock. The Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 with Incabloc retains 28,800 vibrations per hour and approximately 38 hours of reserve. The watch is supplied on the articulated integrated bracelet with butterfly clasp and the possibility of an alternative folding clasp. This generation illustrates Direnzo’s intention to make colour a major part of the Mondial identity.
(2023) Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial Black Meteorite Third Limited Meteorite:
Meteorite returns in 2023 in a black configuration intended to highlight both the Muonionalusta structure and blue luminous material. The Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial reference not communicated Black Meteorite has the same 40 mm steel case, 48 mm length and stated 10.8 mm thickness as the series, together with 800 HV treatment and flat anti-reflective sapphire. Water resistance remains 100 metres and the crown screws down. Its dial retains a date at 6 o’clock and uses blue luminous material, differing from the BGW9 found on standard models. The Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 with Incabloc continues to operate at 4 Hz and provide approximately 38 hours of reserve. Its integrated steel bracelet uses either a butterfly clasp or optional folding clasp. This version is limited to 60 pieces, more than the 2021 meteorite but still an extremely small production run.
(2025) Direnzo DRZ 04R Mondial 38 mm New Compact Generation:
In 2025, Direnzo revises the fundamental proportions of the Mondial for the first time through a new and more compact version. The Direnzo DRZ 04R Mondial reference not communicated reduces diameter to 38 mm, length to 46 mm and retains a 10.8 mm thickness, while maintaining the 800 HV treatment, screw-down crown, sapphire caseback and 100 metres of water resistance. Weight with the full bracelet falls to approximately 140 grams. The Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 with Incabloc remains the movement. Several colours are offered with or without date: light blue, white, yellow, green, black and pink. No-date Muonionalusta meteorite watches also appear in limited editions, including 70 sandblasted pieces and 40 black-PVD pieces. The integrated bracelet remains fully articulated and an optional on-the-fly clasp developed with Nodus substantially improves comfort adjustment throughout the day.
The first decision concerns proportions. The historical 40 mm version provides greater presence and displays the concave dial especially effectively while remaining relatively manageable through its 48 mm length. The 38 mm DRZ 04R reduces the occupied surface further and better suits smaller wrists or someone seeking a more discreet integrated sports watch. The 40 mm version remains the most faithful expression of the original Mondial identity. A wrist accustomed to 36 to 38 mm watches will, however, probably find the DRZ 04R more natural for everyday use.
The decision between date and no date mainly depends on how dial symmetry is perceived. The 6 o’clock date is comparatively discreet and its matched disc limits visual disruption. No-date variations nevertheless provide a cleaner surface and give the bowl shape and indexes even more visual space. The no-date version better suits someone who considers the dial itself to be the principal element of the watch. For a genuinely everyday office or travel watch, the date remains useful and its central position does not significantly disturb the design.
Colour profoundly changes the personality of the Mondial. Blue, grey and black are comparatively versatile, whereas yellow, red, pink and light blue become far more expressive. Fumé dials also react strongly to lighting and can appear nearly black from certain angles before revealing their colour in direct light. It is preferable to choose a coloured Mondial after viewing photographs or video taken under several lighting conditions. The concave shape amplifies these changes and makes the visual result much less constant than on a conventional flat matte dial.
Meteorite is more specifically aimed at collectors. Every slice of Muonionalusta has slightly different patterns and the series have been produced in very small quantities: 40, 50, 60 or only a few dozen pieces depending on year and finish. This rarity generally increases secondary-market interest but also makes identical dial replacement virtually impossible. A meteorite version should primarily be purchased for the appeal of its dial rather than because it offers superior performance. Case, movement and water resistance remain very close to those of standard models.
Finally, the bracelet deserves as much attention as case diameter. A butterfly clasp creates a very clean appearance but does not always allow a perfect fit as wrist size changes throughout the day. Micro-adjustment or on-the-fly clasps are more practical at the cost of greater bulk beneath the wrist. The adjustable clasp is the best choice for someone prioritising comfort over the visual symmetry of a butterfly clasp. On a pre-owned watch, the condition of the surface treatment, presence of all bracelet links and water resistance should also be checked before exposure to water. Other customers’ opinions are essential.
The Direnzo DRZ 04 Mondial is aimed at enthusiasts seeking an integrated-bracelet sports watch that differs from the most angular interpretations of the genre. Its bowl-shaped dial, applied indexes, highly articulated bracelet and softly transitioning case give it a sufficiently personal identity despite the acknowledged inspiration of the great integrated sports watches. The 40 mm version represents the historical formula, while the 38 mm DRZ 04R introduced in 2025 improves suitability for smaller wrists without changing the fundamental mechanics. The Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 provides a proven and easily serviceable Swiss base, while the numerous colours and meteorite series principally allow the personality of the watch to be customised. Choice therefore mainly depends on diameter, presence or absence of date, colour and preferred clasp type.
To compare comfort, accuracy, bracelet quality and the long-term behaviour of the 800 HV treatment with real-world ownership, Dialicious customer reviews provide a particularly useful complement.
