Anthony S.'s review on his Seiko Prospex

The Seiko Prospex SBDC063, better known as the "Baby Marinemaster," was the second watch to join my collection. I acquired it at a time when value for money was my number one criterion. It's also one of the very few watches in my collection that I bought new, and there's always an extra thrill in knowing you're the first owner. What immediately captivated me 😉 was its bezel. Its blue is simply mesmerizing: it shifts from teal to petrol blue, then to midnight blue, depending on the light and the time of day. Even better, several shades can appear simultaneously on the bezel depending on the angle of the sunlight. It's a detail that brings the watch to life and that I never tire of. If I had to find fault with anything, it would be precisely this bezel. Its click lacks a bit of character compared to higher-end models, and its rotation offers slight resistance without providing the precise feel found in some premium brands. The case is also a success. Atypical and instantly recognizable with its crown positioned at 4 o'clock, it exudes a real personality while remaining understated and functional. However, Seiko doesn't quite go all the way: a simply polished crown, without any logo, leaves a slightly unfinished impression. At this price point, this kind of detail is easily forgiven, but a signed crown would have added an extra touch of prestige. The bracelet, on the other hand, is clearly the watch's weak point. It's functional but rather basic, and its relatively thin steel clasp doesn't reflect the quality of the case. It's probably the element that most betrays its price point. The matte black dial perfectly matches the spirit of this diver's watch: simple, legible, unadorned, with generous hour markers that reinforce its tool-like appearance. Finally, it's impossible to finish without mentioning the Lumibrite. It's simply exceptional. It's one of the best I've ever seen, significantly brighter and more durable than that of my Rolex Explorer II or even my Omega Seamaster. At night, the legibility is impressive. Ultimately, despite a few compromises on the crown and bracelet, this Seiko diver has a unique personality and a price-to-performance ratio that's hard to beat. It's an endearing watch that still provides just as much pleasure to wear years after purchase.
