The must-have Macro Loupe for all watch lovers

The Seiko Prospex SBDC063, better known as the "Baby Marinemaster," was the second watch to join my collection. I acquired it at a time when value for money was my number one criterion. It's also one of the very few watches in my collection that I bought new, and there's always an extra thrill in knowing you're the first owner.

What immediately captivated me 😉 was its bezel. Its blue is simply mesmerizing: it shifts from teal to petrol blue, then to midnight blue, depending on the light and the time of day. Even better, several shades can appear simultaneously on the bezel depending on the angle of the sunlight. It's a detail that brings the watch to life and that I never tire of.

If I had to find fault with anything, it would be precisely this bezel. Its click lacks a bit of character compared to higher-end models, and its rotation offers slight resistance without providing the precise feel found in some premium brands.

The case is also a success. Atypical and instantly recognizable with its crown positioned at 4 o'clock, it exudes a real personality while remaining understated and functional. However, Seiko doesn't quite go all the way: a simply polished crown, without any logo, leaves a slightly unfinished impression. At this price point, this kind of detail is easily forgiven, but a signed crown would have added an extra touch of prestige.

The bracelet, on the other hand, is clearly the watch's weak point. It's functional but rather basic, and its relatively thin steel clasp doesn't reflect the quality of the case. It's probably the element that most betrays its price point.

The matte black dial perfectly matches the spirit of this diver's watch: simple, legible, unadorned, with generous hour markers that reinforce its tool-like appearance. Finally, it's impossible to finish without mentioning the Lumibrite. It's simply exceptional. It's one of the best I've ever seen, significantly brighter and more durable than that of my Rolex Explorer II or even my Omega Seamaster. At night, the legibility is impressive.

Ultimately, despite a few compromises on the crown and bracelet, this Seiko diver has a unique personality and a price-to-performance ratio that's hard to beat. It's an endearing watch that still provides just as much pleasure to wear years after purchase.

Baby Marinemaster: a simple, endearing, and terrific watch

Omega is probably my favorite watch brand. Its history, the Speedmaster and the Seamaster, along with their many variations, make it a particularly appealing brand.
This Seamaster Diver 300M is, for me, a true summer watch. Its rubber strap and magnificent ocean blue are perfectly suited to days by the sea or at the beach. It's in this context that I get the most pleasure from wearing it.

I particularly appreciate the superb design of the case, alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces, as well as the wave-patterned dial. The Co-Axial movement is a real plus, and the 42mm size is a perfect fit for my wrist. This watch has even made me want to explore other versions, such as the 007 in titanium or the Bronze Gold.
Its only drawbacks, in my opinion, are a slightly stiff rubber strap and a rather specific shade of blue that doesn't always coordinate well with certain navy outfits. Its summery style also means I wear it more on weekends or holidays than at the office.

A beautiful watch, very pleasant to wear occasionally, which always gives me a lot of pleasure despite its somewhat limited versatility.

The spirit of vacation on your wrist

I bought this Chopard Mille Miglia Chrono at an auction, after having tried on the GTS Azzurro version with the blue dial three times. Each time, it evoked a particular emotion in me, far stronger than the more classic Mille Miglia versions. When I had the opportunity to acquire this version with the gray dial, I didn't hesitate.
Upon receiving it, I was immediately captivated. The sunburst gray dial is superb: it plays magnificently with the light, the white subdials create a very successful contrast, and the small touches of red on the hands add just the right amount of sporty character.

What impresses me most is the quality of the case's construction. The alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces are remarkably executed and give this watch a rare elegance for a sports chronograph. Chopard has succeeded in creating this blend of sportiness and refinement that only a few houses, like Chopard or Cartier, truly master. Manipulating the crown and pushers is also a real pleasure: everything exudes precision, solidity, and quality.

However, some details have become less appealing to me over time. The 44mm case, combined with a relatively thin bezel, sometimes gives the impression of a watch that is larger than it actually is, even though the well-designed lugs ensure excellent comfort on the wrist.
The movement is based on the highly reliable Valjoux 7750, reworked by Chopard and COSC-certified. It offers excellent performance in terms of precision and robustness, but at this price point, I would have appreciated an in-house caliber. This is probably the main element that detracts somewhat from the prestige of this watch. Today, I plan to part with it in the coming weeks or months. Not because it lacks qualities—quite the contrary—but because it doesn't evoke the same emotions in me as other watches in my collection. Watchmaking is, above all, a matter of personal feeling 😊.

Despite this, I still get a lot of pleasure from wearing it from time to time, for a weekend. Every time I wear it, I rediscover that superb dial, that quality of craftsmanship, and that sporty elegance that make this Mille Miglia such an endearing watch. I will cherish the memory of this Chopard, even if my heart ultimately remains with the GTS Azzurro version.

When emotion doesn't always follow passion

The 1995 Seamaster Professional 300M Chronometer (36mm) features a classic and elegant style reminiscent of the one worn by Pierce Brosnan in the James Bond film GoldenEye. Unlike the latter, my Seamaster is powered by an Omega 1120 automatic caliber, making it a versatile sports watch perfectly suited to any kind of adventure, whether underwater or in the office.

This is one of the first watches that struck me when I started to get interested in watches with its extremely changing blue dial with the lighting, its inimitable case style with the lyre lugs, the helium valve and its polished insert typical of the 90s which makes it inimitable. It would have been designed to my knowledge first for the Japanese market, already screaming at the time of vintage-inspired watches. It is therefore the case common to the Bond Seamaster but with a rather unique dial with the wave pattern, in an electric blue enamel finish which has a certain charm. It has the sword hands of the black 2254.80, the watch worn by the navigator Peter Blake at that time and the big triangle indices at 12 o'clock (affectionately called the pizza slice) inspired by the Seamaster supplied to the British army in the 70s. An explosive combo and a thinness of only 11.6 mm that really makes it halfway between the waterproof dress watch of the early Seamaster and the tool diver that this series has subsequently become. A bit like its direct competitor from the 1990s, the Submariner pre ceramic, the 2255.80 is as comfortable under a shirt as over a diving suit. The bracelet shared with the Speedmaster 1861 is much stronger than a Rolex Oyster of the time, but has for me the only flaw of this watch, the lack of micro adjustment to the buckle ... Problem that can be solved by a more recent Seamaster buckle adaptable, but which loses the finesse of that of this first generation. Or the other solution that I chose of the aftermarket bracelet like from Forstner to vary the pleasures. Last point, the movement is ETA 2892 top grade slightly modified for Omega, a standard of the time reliable and repairable without any worries which allows as a bonus the finesse of the case that the current Seamasters have lost.

A watch whose reputation is well established, with contained measurements (36mm - 12mm - 18mm) all managed by a COSC-certified ETA 2892-A2 / Omega 1120 movement. A detail that touches me is the ability of this watch to be worn in several situations, with its steel bracelet, the rubber bracelet and the NATO. Basically, it's my summer watch, from the time of the first Bond films but with a different bezel color. What more could you ask for?

Legendary and sporty

Would I trade this magnificent Omega Seamaster 300M 007 No Time To Die in titanium with its delicious chocolate dial and beige indexes for a Rolex Submariner? I think I can bet that I wouldn't! A watch with a slightly excessive retail price that had made me give up on buying it in advance... But you should never say never! A great opportunity presents itself, and it's a second-hand purchase from a trusted person that I'm really excited about today. Do I go diving with it? Will I ever need the helium valve? To these two questions, I would answer "no more than I have the right to kill!" Because although it is, in my humble opinion, one of the most beautiful watches linked to the history of 007, this beautiful diver will only accompany me to the office, and it will only know the depth of my thoughts! This watch is meant to be unique from a vast mass of divers with black dials, black bezels and white indexes (which remain beautiful by the way). But I like the fact that it stands out with its material and colors. A choice that I do not regret at all, a sublime watch mounted on its titanium bracelet, and which does not lose its character once mounted on its original nato bracelet from the film No Time To Die. A success (although a catalog price that stings), thank you Omega.

A detail for watch nerds like me: the colors of this watch in the dark with the phosphorescent material are unmatched! The rendering is just exceptional, and the power of the phosphorescent material has nothing to envy to the reputation of Panerai in this field! A little personal pleasure when you put yourself in the dark...

Come on, to remain as objective as possible, we can still blame it for the significant thickness at the level of the folding clasp with a titanium bracelet that forms a small steak under the wrist (2 layers of bracelet and 1 layer of buckle). We had to find a fault with this watch!

Finally, the lightness of titanium can put some people off... You either like it or you don't... It's up to each person. Materials are my thing. I like to have multiple types of cases in my collection. And the lightness doesn't bother me at all!

A 007 watch for the least secret agents
