The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time, launched in 2017, is a collection of mechanical dress watches whose identity is primarily built around dials designed to evoke the colours, textures and reflections of cocktails served in Japanese bars. In July 2017, Seiko transforms the 2010 concept into a genuine Presage collection distributed internationally. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SRPB43 becomes one of the most direct heirs to the SARB065 thanks to its strongly textured pale-blue dial. (2017) Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Power Reserve Expanded Display:

Introduced alongside the three-hand models, this variation demonstrates that the Cocktail Time can accommodate more information without abandoning its identity. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SSA343 uses a 40.5 mm stainless-steel case but its thickness reaches approximately 14.4 mm because of its movement and dial architecture. Domed Hardlex, the screwed transparent caseback, leather strap and 5 bar water resistance remain consistent with the family. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SSA441 has a 40.5 mm stainless-steel case, a length of 47.5 mm and thickness of 11.8 mm. The crystal remains box-shaped Hardlex and the screwed transparent caseback also allows the movement to be observed from behind. The watch remains water-resistant to 5 bar and can be worn on a steel bracelet depending on configuration. Its automatic 4R38 calibre contains 24 jewels, provides approximately 41 hours of power reserve and offers manual winding and hacking seconds. It has no date, helping maintain greater symmetry around the opening in the dial. The open heart adds constant animation to an already strongly worked surface and is aimed more at someone wanting to see the mechanics than at someone seeking the purest Cocktail Time dial.

(2023) Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Sky Diving 30 mm Women’s Version:

Seiko expands the collection significantly in January 2023 with three new small-diameter automatic Cocktail Time watches. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SRE007 reinterprets the Sky Diving theme within a 30.3 mm stainless-steel case measuring approximately 37 mm in length and 11 mm thick. Its strongly textured light-blue dial receives eight diamonds positioned at the hour markers, while the box-shaped Hardlex crystal retains the vintage character of the collection. A five-row metal bracelet combines bright surfaces with more restrained elements to extend the reflections of the dial. The arrival of a GMT is one of the most important functional developments in the collection since 2017. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SSK037 uses a 40.5 mm stainless-steel case, 47.5 mm length and 12.8 mm thickness, with domed Hardlex crystal, screwed transparent caseback and 5 bar water resistance. The dial retains its cocktail-inspired patterns but adds a 24-hour scale and a fourth hand capable of following another time zone. Automatic calibre 4R34 contains 24 jewels, operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Its GMT hand can be adjusted independently, making the watch particularly suitable for following a foreign time while remaining at home. The conventional local hour hand is not independent, however, so while travelling the main display needs to be reset in the traditional manner. This architecture is therefore closer to a caller GMT than a Traveller GMT.

(2024) Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Night-time Tokyo STAR BAR:

The collaboration with STAR BAR allows Seiko to push dial design still further. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SRPK93 is inspired by the “Night-time Tokyo” cocktail created by Hisashi Kishi, owner of STAR BAR in Ginza. Its dial uses a grey gradient becoming slightly lighter towards the centre, combined with gold-coloured hands and markers to evoke the lights of Tokyo skyscrapers. The stainless-steel case measures 40.5 mm, 47.5 mm in length and 11.8 mm thick. Box-shaped Hardlex, the screwed transparent caseback and 5 bar water resistance remain consistent with the collection. Automatic calibre 4R35 has 23 jewels, approximately 41 hours of power reserve, manual winding, hacking seconds and date. The series is limited to 9,000 individually numbered pieces and becomes available in October 2024, accompanied by a smaller SRE015 limited to 6,000 pieces.

(2025) Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Frozen Skydiving 34 mm New Format:

The family continues to diversify its proportions through a new 34 mm generation positioned between the small SRE models and traditional 40.5 mm Cocktail Time watches. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SRPL61 uses a 34 mm stainless-steel case, 40.4 mm length and only 10.7 mm thickness. Its light-blue dial is inspired by a Frozen Skydiving cocktail and receives a pressed pattern evoking crushed ice together with four diamonds integrated into the markers at the cardinal positions. The crystal remains box-shaped Hardlex and water resistance stays at 5 bar. The movement is now a full-size 4R35 with 23 jewels, approximately 41 hours of power reserve, manual winding, hacking seconds and date. A multi-row stainless-steel bracelet gives this model greater presence than a 30 mm version while remaining considerably more compact than a classical men’s Cocktail Time. Choosing the right version: three hands, power reserve, GMT or smaller size

For a first Cocktail Time, the three-hand 4R35 remains the simplest and most representative choice. Its dial retains the greatest possible uninterrupted surface and the 11.8 mm thickness remains manageable. SRPB43, SRPE19 and SRPK15 can provide very different personalities simply through changes in colour. The 4R35 is the best starting point when the dial is the absolute priority. Power-reserve and open-heart versions add more visible mechanics but make the composition less restrained.

The 40.5 mm diameter can appear large for a dress watch, especially because of the generous dial opening. The 47.5 mm length nevertheless remains reasonable and allows the watch to fit many wrists. The 34 mm models provide a much more classical and versatile alternative. The 34 mm format deserves particular attention for someone wanting a discreet dress watch without moving all the way down to the very small 30 mm SRE size. Trying the watch on remains advisable because the absence of a substantial bezel makes the dial appear visually large.

Hardlex is one of the few technical compromises within the collection. It allows Seiko to create the characteristic domed shape while maintaining an accessible price, but it is less scratch-resistant than modern sapphire. Replacement remains possible if significant damage occurs. Hardlex should be accepted as part of the positioning of the Cocktail Time rather than treated as the crystal of a tool watch. For a watch mainly worn at the office or in the evening, this limitation is generally straightforward to manage.

The GMT version is useful for someone who regularly follows another time zone, but its 4R34 does not provide an independently jumping local hour. It therefore better suits someone working with another region of the world than a traveller constantly changing zones. Its 12.8 mm thickness remains reasonable. The GMT is the best Cocktail Time for international professional use provided its caller-GMT operation is clearly understood. Someone simply looking for a dress watch will gain greater thinness with a three-hand version.

Finally, the 5 bar water-resistance rating needs to be considered within the overall purpose of the collection. It provides protection from splashes, rain and most ordinary incidents but does not make the watch suitable for diving or demanding water sports. Leather straps further reinforce this practical limitation. A Cocktail Time should primarily be considered a city and evening watch. On an older example, checking water resistance and accuracy remains advisable before intensive daily use. Other customers’ opinions are essential.
