I always knew that one day I would gravitate towards the brand with the crown, but I hesitated for a long time over which model. Two-tone Datejust, Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Oyster?
I considered them all; I was even lucky enough to buy a new Submariner from my authorized dealer, but I quickly realized that the one I truly wanted was the Explorer 36.

Discreet, robust, iconic, and above all, much less conspicuous than modern Submariners, it is, in my opinion, the best compromise in everything Rolex offers.

An essential model that, in my opinion, is ultimately somewhat overlooked by collectors—and wrongly so!

Rolex Explorer, LA Tool Watch

This is without a doubt the most vintage watch I own, and for good reason: it dates back to the 1940s, that's saying something!
It's no longer a watch; it's a piece of history.

I needed a vintage model in my collection. Already owning a Lip Churchill T26 (an automatic model at the time), I didn't immediately consider Lip, but it ultimately became obvious.

The T26 model was very nice but quite thick, especially because of the automatic movement, and it was becoming difficult to wear for a dress watch.

So I tried to replace it with THE original model, the vintage T18, which isn't easy to find in good condition these days.

I was finally able to acquire it thanks to a private individual who had found one at a flea market in Paris. It's a very well-maintained and serviced model at Cartier, in its original condition, of course, but it tells so much!

It's one of the watches I own that I wear the least regularly, as it's difficult to match due to its very vintage look and its fragility, but I still enjoy bringing it out from time to time when the occasion calls for it.

A true piece of history on the wrist, with a capital H, that perfectly complements any collection.

LIP Churchill T18, French elegance

I fell in love with this watch quite recently, in the summer of 2025.

I was initially going for a gold/steel Rolex Datejust, specifically the 16233 model, but after several months of reflection, I realized that this type of model is not (or no longer) wearable in France, at least not in the way I would like.
I didn't want to feel frustrated by not wearing a watch I wanted to wear.

The Cartier Santos was the next obvious choice.

I was looking for a gold/steel model, iconic, with an integrated bracelet or jubilee bracelet—in short, a "sport chic" model with a touch of gold.

This Cartier Santos Galbée model from 2000 meets all these criteria, and as a bonus, I'm not afraid to wear it in town or anywhere else!

This integrated bracelet, these blued hands, this subtle touch of gold, both light and elegant, is pure beauty!
And this slim case, an ETA automatic movement reworked in such a thin case, is a feat!

I never thought I'd ever get my hands on Cartier, but with this model, it's hard to fall for it.

Cartier Santos Galbée, THE definition of sport chic

What better choice for a pilot's watch than a brand invented by a real pilot?

I have a particular affinity for German watchmaking.
In fact, I have an affinity with Germany. Having grown up in Lorraine, you could say we share a shared history, fraught with challenges.

I love rigor, order, precision—so many words that aptly describe our German neighbor!

So it was only natural that my eye finally settled on German watchmaking during my research.

Lange, Glaschutte Original, Nomos, Union Glaschutte, Sinn... if I had the budget, I would be a customer of all these brands!

I had to start somewhere, and I had several criteria for this purchase: I wanted a German brand, of course, a sporty aviator-style model, an open case back, and a green dial.

My choice quickly fell on Sinn, and in particular this 104 ST model, which I find sublime with its countdown bezel, green dial, and open case back.

Powered by a Sellita SW220-1 caliber, beautifully decorated by Sinn, I enjoy examining it from every angle!

It's a robust, sporty, reliable, and precise model that can be worn in all circumstances.

Very comfortable to wear, it's clearly one of the favorites in my collection!

I can only recommend you take a look at this brand and, more broadly, German watchmaking, which is off the beaten track and offers very well-finished models at a more than reasonable price.

One day, I'll definitely look for a model in the fine watchmaking world, and it will probably be from the Germans, not the Swiss.



Sinn 104 ST, THE aviator model

As someone who's more of a "thoughtful buyer," I have to say this one was the exception... which proves the rule.

I was looking for an original dress watch on a budget, as it's not the style of watch I wear regularly.

Frédérique Constant, Nomos, vintage Omega—I didn't really know what I wanted anymore.
And then I fell in love with this MR01, with its salmon-colored dial, original, small seconds at 8 o'clock, grained dial, and Breguet numerals, and a French brand, to boot. In short, I fell in love with it from the photo!

And I do mean "from the photo." I've never had any trouble buying watches without trying them on, but this one I might have taken the time to think about if I'd had it in my hands.
It looks beautiful from the photo, but I find the perceived quality is lower once worn.

Original and very pretty on a budget, of course, but the movement is extremely noisy... The Chinese micro-rotor movement didn't bother me at first, because whatever you say, it's very well finished and very well crafted (Chinese or not, I take great pleasure in looking at it), but it can't be said to be discreet, far from it!

Furthermore, at this price point, I find it a shame to have Plexiglas glass. It certainly gives the piece a vintage feel, but in this case, the price should have been lowered.

To sum up, no particular emotion, a very beautiful watch visually, but one which, in the long run, I don't think will remain in my collection.

Given the choice, I prefer to push the budget a little higher for a better-finished model, with a better perceived quality, such as a Swiss or German movement and sapphire crystal.

A very beautiful watch, very well crafted, but ultimately with an average price/quality ratio.

Baltic MR01, original but tiresome?

For this one, the choice was complex, but at the same time rather simple.
I was looking for a GMT model, within a "consistent" budget, and you can't say that those are commonplace!

Then one day, I came across this model, from a brand that appealed to me, TAG Heuer, but most of whose models, in my humble opinion, need to be reworked in terms of design.

I find this brand to have a very frustrating side: capable of making magnificent and exceptional things, but at the same time capable of the worst in terms of design, size, utility...

This piece is no exception, because a GMT called the "Aquaracer" and capable of diving to 300 meters; it had to be dared!

And yet, I'm a fan...

That blue sunburst dial, that blue GMT hand, the magnifying glass over the date, and the fact that it works well on absolutely any type of strap (NATO, rubber, original steel), that sporty look—it's definitely my summer watch!
That dial, in the sun, is to die for...

And finally, a completely original TAG Heuer, in this diver/GMT configuration, and for sure a model you don't see everywhere.

a great classic this explorer 36 mm. No bad taste. Sober design and legendary origin. So classy in all circumstances. Its plus: it goes super well with a feminine wrist with its 36 mm. Besides, it is she who wears it :) this explorer is simple I will never part with it because it is the very essence of Rolex! My model is from 2001, a major overhaul was necessary 2 years ago. It is like new but with this little extra soul that its 25 springs give it.

My little classic!

Gold and steel, readable, luminescent, waterproof, robust, contained and without warts, it has everything to reach the top with class. In addition, being shunned by investor buyers, I was able to get it at a price significantly lower than the boutique price, which is rare these days with this brand.

My first "nice" watch was the Rolex Explorer 39mm (MK1) in 2010. After several months of internet research and visits to retailers, I completely fell for the Explorer, even though Rolex decided to switch from 36mm to 39mm. I loved this model but thought that the 36mm would have been ideal, thus better respecting its history. A little over a year ago, I made the decision to sell it to get the new 36mm version (reference 124270). Here we are…

This watch is simply exceptional, with notable improvements over the previous ones: the 3230 movement offering 72 hours of power reserve, blue luminescence on all the indexes, a very beautiful black lacquered dial and a particularly solid bracelet.

What I particularly like is its comfort, much better than the 39 mm and even the new 40 mm. It is a watch that is both sporty and chic, offering a beautiful presence while remaining discreet.

With a wrist of more than 17 cm, some may find it a little "small", especially because of the 19/14 bracelet which makes it thinner. But believe me, after a few days, you get used to it, and you quickly realize that it is actually an advantage, because the dial stands out more and the comfort is fabulous.

I have a collection of four watches, and this is without a doubt the one I wear the most. So yes, if I had to keep only one, it would be the Explorer 36.

If I had to keep just one...

At first, nothing was predestined for this timepiece to enter my collection. Already having the Explorer 2 in my possession, I made the mistake of trying on this little Explorer, not so small, and it was love at first sight. It has a crazy charm, this plethora of details, this size, this presence, this brilliance made me fall in love with this little gem. My AD was able to find me a model in just 2 days. What a joy to wear it every day, it is discreet and so classy that I never tire of contemplating the 3-6-9 adorned with its lumibright. As you will have understood, I am crazy about it. It is very pleasant to wear even if the adjustment was a little too tight at first, the easylink has restored a little grace to my wrist. Far from the madness of Daytona and other GMT Masters, it really deserves to be an icon. I advise you to try it on to realize that you have a sleeping monster there
