Back to the past

What can be said about the 70s? One thing is certain: in terms of design, there was a lot of experimentation, and for good reason—recreational drug use certainly played a part. I picture this very specific scene every time I put on this watch: two designers with thick glasses, wild hair, shirtsleeves, and sweaters over them, showing each other their latest creations after having eaten hallucinogenic mushrooms. A Jodorowsky/Moebius vibe; they're in the realm of science fiction. And then, the UFO: an oval watch, an opening through the crystal, a large eye in the center of the dial, striking colors, the case clips onto the strap, a flying saucer design. The Omega Genève Dynamic was born. In this dream, the designer opposite is sketching a Longines Comet. The real story is surely nothing like this, and certainly less romanticized, but ultimately, that's how I see this watch. It's one of the most comfortable watches I've ever worn, slim and the perfect diameter for my wrist; frankly, I'm more than happy with it. It does have its flaws: the dial was repainted at 11 o'clock by a house painter, and the bracelet has seen better days (a steel bracelet for an Omega Dynamic is quite expensive, almost 50% of the watch's price); but what class, what style! Whether you're a watch enthusiast or not, you recognize the watch's markings, you know how to date it, and you understand the world it represents. It's certainly a modern interpretation of what we imagine the 70s to be, but having that era on your wrist, and becoming a de facto representative of it, is undoubtedly an unparalleled pleasure.
