The must-have Macro Loupe for all watch lovers

Purchased in 2019 or 2020, I'm not sure anymore, this YEMA Superman is a special Air Force edition limited to 1,948 pieces.
Ordered in a 39 mm diameter (the diameter of the original model), this watch is contradictory, even mixed, for me...
I love some of the details: the roundel at 6 o'clock, the roundel on the crown, the caseback engraved with the Air Force logo, and a "real" numbering.
And another detail, which isn't really one, that I hate: the different lume between the indexes and the hands, frankly overdone...
This watch is my watch that fears nothing: it exudes strength, is water resistant to 300 meters (900 feet), and isn't worth millions... No need to tread lightly!
As for the movement, it's a YEMA 2000 of French design but probably made in China. However, my watch is extremely accurate, much more accurate than much more expensive watches! It gains less than 5 seconds per day, so it would be COSCable.
Anyway, one day I'll have it turned back on, and the honeymoon will resume ;-)

Superman makes a splash

Damn, another diver, and another SEIKO… To say that at first, I wasn’t a fan of divers…
For my 4th SEIKO diver, I was (re)looking for a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructor) version: ah, marketing…
On the other hand, since I don’t like day-date complications or cyclops, it’s not easy to find one to my taste.
So, when the new collection came out in the summer of 2023, with the SPB375J1 version without day-date or cyclops, I knew it was for me…
In a sturdy 45 mm case, called Sumo, it doesn’t go unnoticed
That’s really what I was looking for, a bodybuilder watch. If I had the means, I would have taken an OMEGA SEAMASTER ULTRA DEEP PLANET OCEAN waterproof to 6000 m, but at more than 14 k€, the SEIKO will do the trick!
What makes all the charm of this SEIKO is still and always this dial, superb, which "simulates" the reflections of the surface of the water, and the gradient of blue, from the deep blue of the abyss to the sky blue of the surface lit by the sun ... My photos do not do justice, but it is to die for!
For the mechanics, again this 6R35 which runs well, with good autonomy, but a precision that we would have liked better. The drift is of the order of 15 s delay per day, within the tolerances of the brand.
There you have it, it is my WTF watch, the biggest, which does not go unnoticed!

SEIKO PROSPEX PADI THE GREAT BLUE

The SEIKO Prospex special (but not limited) Save the Ocean edition blew me away when they were released in June 2022. The 3 models, respectively tributes to the SEIKO divers from 1965 (the famous 62MAS), 1968 (the first SEIKO operating at 5 Hz and water-resistant to 300 m) and 1970 (the famous turtle) feature sumptuous textured dials, each evoking a different shade of the ice of our poles, from deep blue to white, including sky blue. After trying them on, the hardest part for me was choosing. But as the saying goes that when you love, you don't count, I finally find myself owning all three... ;-) The choice was too difficult and they all had to be on my wrist. On this model (SPB299J1), it is still the 6R35 movement, which has a good autonomy of 70 hours, and good precision. As easy to wear as its little sister (SPB297J1), it nevertheless stands out with its sky blue textured dial of the most beautiful effect, its "pie server" second hand and its crown at 4 o'clock. I like almost everything on this watch, I really don't have much to reproach it for. Some will say or think that for the price of the three, I could have had a TUDOR. I tell myself that for the price of a TUDOR, I had three watches that I love... 😂

Save the glaciers

Under this famous slogan that the youngest will not have recognized (Clio ad from the 90s) hides this SEIKO SHARP EDGED which is similar, in many ways, to a GRAND SEIKO…
Released in 2020, in the middle of Covid, I had tried it at a jeweler, before finding myself confined again. It was therefore through the SEIKO website that I was able to acquire it.
The case, quite classic, has polished surfaces, brushed edges, and a polished bezel: it's striking!
But what we like most about these SHARP EDGED editions is this textured "hemp leaves" dial (Japanese Asanoha pattern): it's a beautiful effect. It takes the light well, going from a superb blue with light, to a deep black in its absence.
The transparent case back reveals the 6R35 movement, relatively ordinary in terms of finishes. On the other hand, it has a good autonomy of 70 hours and good precision.
It could have been perfect without LumiBrite, which brings nothing to this kind of watch.


It has everything a big (Seiko) has!

But as the saying goes that when you love, you don't count, I finally find myself owning all three... ;-) The choice was too difficult and they all had to be on my wrist. The 6R35 movement of this "turtle" (SPB301J1) has good autonomy, but is less precise than its little sister (SPB297J1), for those that I have: it's a matter of luck... I like this white textured dial, and the grooved blue bezel, in this asymmetrical and atypical case. I like less the precision, which deviates by about twenty seconds per day, within the tolerances of the brand and the movement. This watch is rather masculine, and will not necessarily suit all wrists! Chicken wrists, abstain (in my opinion).

Save the turtle

The 6R35 movement works perfectly, with good autonomy, and very good precision, largely COSC level. The first one I bought, the SPB297J1, I never get tired of it: the 62MAS has always been my favorite diver's model, tied with the Superman from YEMA. With a dial like that, it was sure to hit the mark!



Save the ocean

Bought at a preferential price for my retirement, I am generally satisfied with this watch and the engraving on the case back allows me to keep a nice souvenir of my career. I am really disappointed however that the tint of the lume of the hands does not match at all that of the indexes, and for a detail nut like me, I see nothing else, and it unfortunately only very rarely comes out of its box. The devil is in the details and at a certain price, the details must be taken care of.
