HISTORICAL PROPORTIONS AND TECHNICAL PROWESS

The Black Bay 54 model is the model closest, aesthetically speaking, to the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. Offered with a 37 mm case, it retains the general proportions of its source of inspiration while being equipped with the high-performance Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m. A characteristic element and faithful to the aesthetics of the period, the unidirectional bezel does not have a minute graduation. However, the aesthetic details do not stop at the dimensions of the case and the bezel. The seconds hand, with its round luminous disc, evokes the appearance of the hand of the original model. The ergonomics have also evolved with a redesigned crown and bezel, but which nevertheless retain the historical spirit.

A DIVE INTO THE PAST

The spirit of Black Bay is part of the history of the brand. The Black Bay line has always highlighted iconic elements of old TUDOR diver’s watches, but the Black Bay 54 is perhaps the closest model to a specific historical piece created to date. The Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, one of the first modern diver’s watches, is a great source of inspiration since it is known to have been evaluated and then adopted by the French and American Navies as well as widely used by the pioneers of professional diving. The first versions of the reference 7922 featured a “small crown”, but not yet the red triangle at 12 o’clock, which would later become one of the brand’s signatures. These details gave it a refined and understated aesthetic. The Black Bay 54 is faithful to its model and takes up a large number of distinctive details. The minute hand, for example, in addition to adjusted proportions, is beveled at its base, as on the 1954 model. The second hand is as close as can be to the original. The profile of the bezel ring is also faithful to that of the reference 7922, as are the markings on its aluminum insert. The Black Bay 54 also features resolutely modern touches, such as a satin-sun dial and a “T-fit” clasp for a perfect fit and, of course, the Manufacture Caliber MT5400, a concentrate of high-performance watchmaking technology.

There are watches that go beyond their utilitarian function to become legendary. The Rolex GMT-Master II is one of them: a watch born in the sky, designed for pilots, adopted by travelers, and now reinvented in a new and elegant version, the “Bruce Wayne,” with its black and gray ceramic bezel.

My first Tudor I love it

I'm not a fan of the brand with the rose, or the shield, as you will, and I never thought I'd own one. The brand remains too close to Rolex in its designs and doesn't make enough effort (in my opinion) to stand out. It has too few collections to its name; we're almost exclusively looking at Black Bay or Pelagos releases, and I'm really not a fan of their faux-rivet bracelets.
It's mainly for these reasons that I didn't think I'd fall in love with this Black Bay Heritage Burgundy.
When I saw the release online, the offering immediately appealed to me, with the red bezel contrasting with the black dial and the hints of guilt, the Métas-certified movement, and especially the "5-link" bracelet that gives it an incredible aesthetic. I quickly went to a boutique (Bucherer and Lassaussois) to try it on. It lived up to, if not exceeded, my expectations. Although substantial, at 41 mm in diameter and 13.6 mm thick, it can't be called lightweight, but it sits beautifully on the wrist and is comfortable to wear. The construction of the case and bracelet (especially the Tfit micro-adjustment system) are very ergonomic, and the alternating finishes give a true sense of luxury. The watch's lines are emphasized, even enhanced, by beautiful polishes, which are highlighted by the brushed details.
Even when doubt sets in and I consider parting with it, just by putting it on my wrist, the idea immediately becomes absurd.

Despite its bright touch of color, the watch remains easy to wear every day, it pairs easily and is as casual as it is dressy.
The alchemy is undeniable.

Unexpected love at first sight

I was lucky enough to participate in W&W 2024 on Friday. Despite all the new products present, I had 2 watches in mind and a stand to see in particular: Tudor and the new BB58 GMT and BB41 monochrome with 5-link bracelet... I had confirmed the favorite I had in a photo

Heading to the Tudor (Bucherer) pop-up store in Geneva to try to find the beauty.. 2 were available and I liked to try.. think.. find all the flaws and arguments against. This time a feeling of madness: buying it on a whim/whim at the risk of having to wait months and months once decided in France.

It's a bit early to have perspective after a few days but what I like:
- Very comfortable bracelet
- Top fine adjustment
- Perfect proportions
- Monochrome black (more timeless, less vintage)

On the wrist this BB gives me a very qualitative impression, which could be at the level of the Rolex but at a more contained price to be able to wear it in all circumstances, and that's the goal.

I think I'll give it a tropical bracelet for the sunny days.

Mini Sub'

It was a story that started off badly. It ticked all the boxes, being in the line of sight of a 14060M, when this BB41 came out, I was won over.
However, when I tried it on in the store in front of my black ceramic Seamaster Diver 300M, it was a little bland. So, I gave it a miss.
That's without counting on chance a year later when I had the opportunity to get one and I was starting to tire of my rather too "shiny" Omega.
I seized the opportunity and convinced myself that it was a gateway to the Rolex.
In the end, it never leaves my side. And it might even make me forget the 14060M, more discreet, more reliable, less expensive... OK, the Rolex is definitely different and gives off a different feeling, but in the end...! If I had to criticize the Monochrome, I could cite the crudeness of the case, much less crafted than that of the Submariner, and also its 21mm lug width, a real nightmare.
I'm surprised by the effect it's had on my collection, eclipsing the others to this extent. Tastes change within a collection, but I have a feeling it'll be around for a very long time.

Maybe it's the right one after all
