The must-have Macro Loupe for all watch lovers

I bought this hefty piece (it's quite heavy) in the early 2000s. I don't wear it on my wrist anymore, but I still carry it in my heart :) because it brings back memories of a particular period in my life. Maybe I'll wear it again someday. It still looks great, it's very legible, the sunburst dial is beautiful, and the crystal that follows the curve of the case is a nice touch...that's it, I want to wear it again!

I'm not wearing it at the moment, but I'm attached to it.

I was looking for a fairly robust, waterproof to 200m minimum, stylish and with a budget of less than 900 euros. I went to my favorite watch jeweler (Mr. Medard in Versailles) who then introduced me to this incredible and fairly exclusive model because it is an edition intended for the US market only. The dial reproduces the scales of a sea turtle. The variations in color and texture of the dial are captivating. The only small downside is the not great precision of the movement (30 seconds per day is starting to be a lot) .. despite its diameter of 45 mm it is easy to wear and is very comfortable.

Sea turtle SRPH55: an incredible dial

When I bought (second-hand) this omega ref 3590.50.00 tritium from 1996, the price was still reasonable compared to a sub from the same period. The patina of the tritium indexes is superb with its eggshell color. The watch is versatile and can be dressed with multiple bracelets that make it either dressy or sporty. The original bracelet is also beautifully made even if the clasp is a bit archaic today. Despite an announced diameter of 42mm, the moonwatch is perfect for a small wrist and very comfortable.

an iconic watch at an (almost) reasonable price

The Oyster Perpetual is an iconic watch. Very simple, with a perfectly refined design, it is the ideal watchmaking ally in many situations. I chose this model (ref 114200) for its super original color with the olive dial and orange index markers. It is one of the watches that I wear the most, it is incredibly comfortable and very precise. I love it. I have tried several bracelets but I always come back to the Oyster which sublimates it to perfection.

Classic and original at the same time

Already the owner of several Rolexes, I started looking for a model (Rolex) that met the following specifications: pro + discreet + original. It was natural that I came across the 226570 black dial. Its brushed steel bezel makes it much more discreet than models with a ceramic bezel. The same goes for the fully brushed bracelet (unlike my GMT whose central link is polished). The originality lies in the orange GMT hand with the orange reminder of the "Explorer II" on the dial. I chose the black dial which I find much more discreet and elegant than the white one. It is one of the first Rolex models with anti-reflective treatment on the inner side of the sapphire and it makes a huge difference! Rolex was smart enough not to put this treatment on the outer side because this type of treatment is fragile and does not resist impacts/scratches over time. Its thin and elegant design despite a diameter of 42mm makes it completely compatible with a small wrist (17cm for me)

Explorer II black dial ref 226570

A super light watch considering its rather bodybuilder appearance (43.5mm in diameter). The bezel, gray/bronze and black, matte is very beautiful and produces a nice click. The rose gold-colored second hand is super original. The only downside to the look is the cyclops... I don't really understand why they put this cyclops when the small date on a black background would have been more discreet. The design of the bracelet is nice but the play in the flap (when it is open only) looks a bit cheap. Thanks to the titanium, despite its size, you quickly forget it's on your wrist.

My first full titanium watch

I bought this watch for its very simple design and the great readability of its dial. The readability of the dial comes from the matte black dial, very contrasting with the indexes and hands of a beautiful white. The date window is very discreet (placed at 4:30) thanks to its black background. The bright red seconds hand gives a little pep to the whole. To emphasize the military side of the watch I opted for a Marine Nationale strap (Erika) which suits it perfectly. A discreet but unique watch. Only downsides: the price... I find it a little expensive considering the specs and the original leather strap which is really not beautiful AND the anti-reflective treatment on the external face of the sapphire which makes fingerprints stand out a lot, not to mention the risk of scratches/chipping of the treatment in the long term.

But of course, that dial...
In real life, it appears less "red and black" and more like a gradient from brown to orange, which explains why it's nicknamed NEGRONI, like the cocktail made with gin, Campari, and red vermouth.
I was drawn to Sinn's 556 model, the brand's most refined, the most legible, the ultimate tool watch that can be worn anywhere and in any circumstance, but the classic black dial seemed a little too... classic.
Sinn regularly releases variations of its bestseller. When I saw this 200-piece limited edition, I immediately fell for it. No date, stick indexes (which I prefer to the large 3-6-9-12), no unnecessary fluff, and the 5-link steel bracelet is also my favorite.
The dial and exclusivity unfortunately come at a price, as it costs an additional 800 euros compared to the classic version.
The proportions are perfect, and it's very comfortable to wear thanks to the jubilee bracelet that hugs the wrist and its curved lugs.
The satin-finished steel case is solid, and the bulge at the crown gives it a very "industrial" look, reminiscent of a German weapon of war, understated and effective. But, thanks to the delicacy of the sunray dial, the Germanic rigor fades, and the Italian gentleman can swirl the ice cubes in his cocktail glass.
The watch is water-resistant to 200 meters, the crown is screwed down, the time is easily readable day and night, and the deviation is a few seconds per month.
The transparent sapphire crystal case back reveals a soberly decorated but attractive movement.
The case is well finished, and includes spring bars, a bottle of oil, and an additional black calfskin strap with the appropriate tool.

Not just for the dial...

Perhaps the most versatile watch I have ever owned. A good diameter, good water resistance, a great bracelet, a dial of a truly original blue that changes from a pastel color to a sparkling dark blue. My everyday watch that follows me to the office and when traveling. It may only be missing a beautiful clasp at the bracelet level. To conclude, with it we can create lots of memories and for me that is the hallmark of a good timepiece.

Are 556 IB 

Sinn, a German brand known without being too well-known, that's what I like. The Sinn 556 is the entry-level watch and has 4 references, mine, the 556A, has 4 Arabic numerals 3,6,9 and 12 with a white second hand.
This Sinn exudes the tool watch, it is entirely brushed, easy to read, water-resistant to 200m, a crown protector and finally a ghost date that sticks perfectly to the watch.
Its only "non-tool" side is the transparent case back revealing the SW-200. Mine has a gold rotor that is now silver.
For its price, you get what you pay for.

In the end, making a simple watch is not easy, Sinn has succeeded with this 556A.

A very successful tool watch

The ultimate field watch, the Sinn 556 is a robust, precise and uncompromising tool watch. The sleek design of the 556A fully contributes to this impression of efficiency. In terms of specifications, we are on safe values, even proven: sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance with screwed and protected crown, anti-magnetism and above all unbeatable readability! The large Arabic numerals 3, 6, 9 and 12 in white on a matte black background and the white hands allow an almost instantaneous reading of the time. The date window is very discreet, almost invisible if we compare the size of the font to that of the hour numerals. The design of the hands is particularly successful, with their black bases they seem to float on the dial. I also appreciate its contained diameter of 38.5mm which gives it a certain discretion. In short, a versatile watch but whose charm strangely lies in its simplicity or even its rigor. A daily watch that is very likely to remain stuck to my wrist!

Sinn 556A: the perfect field

I absolutely love everything about this watch.

For me, its proportions are perfect: the ratio of diameter to lug width to thickness to lug width is just right.

The matte black dial stands out beautifully against the double-sided anti-reflective crystal.

The dial itself may seem simple, but it exudes a clear sense of balance on the wrist. There's no text, just 12-3-6-9 numerals and deceptively simple hour markers, but everything seems perfectly placed and sized.

The date window is very well integrated.

I also love the crown diameter, especially the crown guard, which I think contributes significantly to the overall balance of the case.

There are no polished parts, which adds a touch of ruggedness but also a discreet and elegant feel.

The H-link bracelet conveys both robustness and a sporty look. The clasp is simple yet effective. I can't imagine this watch on any other bracelet than its steel one, to be honest.

Overall, the finish is impeccable.

Nothing special to say about the movement, a well-known SW200. However, I find the rotor rather ineffective for winding. Apart from that, the accuracy is quite good.

The set includes a tool for removing links and threadlocker, which is just great.

Because I have to find some drawbacks, I would say that the satin-finished steel is quite prone to scratches. Also, the luminescence is very basic, neither powerful nor long-lasting.

For me, it's an essential watch that ticks a lot of boxes, but it has become too expensive for a simple three-hand watch with a basic SW200 movement (two and a half years ago I already thought it was quite pricey, but now...).
