The must-have Macro Loupe for all watch lovers

I fell for this Seiko 5 for several reasons.

First, its design immediately appealed to me: anthracite PVD case, green bezel, textured green dial, and orange second hand... a combination that clearly stands out! It has a real adventurer look, more adventurer than diver, and that's precisely what I liked. The textured dial is undoubtedly what attracted me most: it's truly superb! Sure, it's matte and doesn't play with the light like a sunray dial or some Grand Seikos, but it has a lot of charm.

Another good point: the price. For an automatic, it remains very affordable, which allows you to wear it without too much stress on a daily basis. It should be noted, however, that the Hardlex crystal doesn't rival sapphire in terms of scratch resistance... a shame.

It comes with a green NATO strap, which, in my opinion, blends perfectly with the whole thing.

My only slight regret: the day-date at 3 o'clock. Personally, I would have preferred a more streamlined dial with a simple index instead.

I don't wear it every day, mainly because its 42.5 mm case is a bit bulky for my wrist. But it's still a great piece in my collection, with real personality!

An urban adventurer by Seiko

As a fan of watchmaking and space exploration, I quickly coveted the Speedmaster.
At first, with a still-burgeoning passion, the budget seemed unrealistic. But with time and some research, I finally found this specific Speedmaster reference (Reduced 3510.50.00), which is, in my opinion, the Reduced version with the closest design to the original.
It's powered by the Omega 3220 movement, which is admittedly less prestigious than other calibers from the brand, since it's an ETA 2892-A2 modified by Dubois-Depraz to integrate a chronograph module. But ultimately, in an automatic version, it's perhaps an advantage, right?
I quickly realized that I wouldn't necessarily have appreciated a "Pro" on my wrist any more.
With its 39 mm and automatic movement, it's truly comfortable to wear! It's mounted on an aftermarket Uncle Seiko strap, specific to the Reduced, which I find to be of excellent quality and very comfortable. In short, it's not a "Pro," but in my heart, it's just like that.

Reduced but not in emotions

My latest watch, this Omega reference 166.0173, is my first vintage watch (1970s), and after a few weeks on my wrist, I love it!
I don't even know where to start, there are so many things I love. Perhaps the diameter: 36 mm. It's the smallest watch in my collection, and frankly, it fits perfectly on the wrist.

Then, without a doubt, the integrated bracelet (ref. 1186/215): without it, the style of this watch would be completely different. Plus, it's very comfortable.

Another detail I love: the green sunray dial, which catches the light beautifully and, in itself, makes you want to look at it constantly.

And finally, aesthetically, the crown: I love its size, the Omega logo... It really gives the watch charm (even if it's a little complicated to use).

As for the caliber, it's equipped with an Omega 1012. For a vintage watch, I find it keeps time quite well, but the power reserve (or perhaps the automatic recharge) isn't exceptional. Perhaps it needs servicing?

I associated a personal story with this watch when I bought it, and I was a little afraid of being disappointed since it was an impulse buy online. Ultimately, I'm convinced it will never leave my collection, and that I'm going to have a great time with it!

And wouldn't it be a green Oyster Perpetual 26 (Ref: 126000) but even more beautiful? (Well, less robust, okay!)

To contemplate without ever tiring of it

Where to begin? Relatively simple, this dial is simply sublime and enough in itself to make you forget the small flaws of this watch! The relief is incredible: it captures the light in an extraordinary way, whether artificial or natural, direct or indirect. From afar or up close, from the front or the side, it is always splendid! What more can I say? According to Seiko, it evokes the magnificent landscapes of Japan in winter.

This is a "limited" series released in 2017 in a run of 7,000 pieces. This one is an SSA385J1, with a power reserve display and a date hand at 6 o'clock. There are also two other variations: the SRPC97J1 with a date window at 3 o'clock, and the SRP843J1, also with a window at 3 o'clock but in a more compact format.

Learning a Seiko reference isn't easy... And what's more, this one has an (official) nickname inspired by a cocktail: Fuyugeshiki. It's not easy to remember either!

I really like this dial, but that's not all. I'm generally not a fan of classic date windows at 3 o'clock, and here, I love the way the date is displayed. The power reserve perfectly complements the whole look. Plus, once it's put away, I like being able to see the remaining power (41 hours) if I want to put it back on quickly!

Now, it's not without its flaws—otherwise, it would be a Grand Seiko!
The original steel bracelet is, in my opinion, mediocre. I replaced it with a blue leather strap, which matches the color of the complication hands, and which I find absolutely perfect for this model.

Another negative point: the 14.9 mm thickness (for a 40 mm diameter) is too much. It detracts from the elegance of the watch. It would be so much more elegant with 3 or 4 mm less… But the 4R57 movement probably has something to do with it: average precision, but excellent robustness.

Conclusion: it really makes you want to own a Grand Seiko, which would erase these flaws! But for the price, it's already an exceptional watch.

Snowy Japan

I acquired this watch about 7 years ago by chance, after discovering it on eBay.
It's a limited edition of 2,000 pieces, released in 2003, called Wings Around the World II – Voyage to the Ice. This watch was created thanks to Oris's sponsorship of Polly Vacher, an English aviator who completed a solo round-the-world flight between 2003 and 2004. Her flight, aboard a single-engine aircraft, was for charity, benefiting Flying Scholarships for the Disabled. She flew over every continent, as well as the North Pole and Antarctica.
I own a two-tone model (steel and, I think, rose gold plating), which seems much rarer than the all-steel version.
The watch pictured is not on its original leather strap. After several years of use, it finally gave up the ghost. I replaced it with this strap I bought on Etsy, which I think matches the watch perfectly.
Technically, it's 12 mm thick, has a 40 mm case diameter (44 mm with the crown), and is powered by an Oris caliber 654, based on the ETA 2824-2 (probably modified only for date display via the hand).
A superb watch that I've continued to appreciate over the years!

Thanks to Xavier, I think we became very interested in the Omega Speedmaster (regardless of the reference or variation). However, having a small wrist, the professional model was too big for me, and the 38mm references currently in the catalog didn't appeal to me. That's when I learned about the Speedmaster Reduced references and bingo. The characteristics of the watch perfectly matched my expectations. The little extra is that its year of production corresponds to my year of birth! This watch is perfect for smaller wrists, and goes perfectly with all types of bracelets. Its 39mm case is barely felt on the wrist.

Speed for small wrists

Omega was an obvious choice to complete my collection if we take into account the History, Innovations and diversity of their Models.

Being in search of a chronograph, the Speed Master was at the top of the list!
As I researched and thought about it: the dimensions of the SM Professional would be too imposing on my small wrist
of 16.5 / 17mm (depending on the seasons :p)
During a stroll on the web I came across a SM "Reduced" at 39mm in Diameter!
Then a few clicks later I came across another Reduced Triple Calendar: with dimensions "Perfect" for my wrist

BINGO!

All the basic characteristics of the SM Professional in "Better" (for me) respecting the characteristics sought; i.e. diameters less than or equal to 40mm, automatic sapphire crystal and less than €4,500!

I'm Gaga about it more than Logo and the OMEGA inscription is not Hidden / Cut by the Tachymeter needle since the Logo + inscription is located at 3 o'clock!

Completely Generous

Well, as if the MoonSwatch ad campaign had a wide reach. Having ruled out the Moonwatch experience from my watchmaking projects, no need for the compax, nor a tachymeter bezel, ... in 2022 the word "speedmaster" was repeated endlessly in the watchmaking world.... Having saved €250 on a Moonswatch that I will never buy, I opened up the budget a little more for a Reduced model. The question arose of a less moonlike version, 6/9/15 o'clock dials; and then no, the black compax aesthetic imposed itself. Unlike the moonwatch (Speed' Pro), Arabic numerals animate the dial every 5 minutes (a bit like a flieger type B), directly evoking the OMEGA hand chronographs at many international sporting events. The choice was made. The format is surprising, the asymmetrical case of Ø40mm exposes a bezel reduced to Ø38mm. It's elegant, it's classic, it's sporty, it's timeless, a Speed' (but not a moonwatch, it's a detail for me). Perfect on a steel bracelet, I'm going to try it soon on perforated leather "British Racing Green", for a more automotive evocation, the origin of the Speedmaster model.

Don't ask him for the moon

Omega Speedmaster Reduced Marui Panda 🐼 limited edition, 39mm diameter, chrono function with 3 black sub-dials for a cream white dial, exceptional, rare watch, which is useful to my wife and me. Purchased for the birth of my first child (sentimental value) it has incredible visibility during the start of the chrono, Beautiful, our family is in love with this timepiece…. Original bracelet we always find our grâle at Omega as always!!!

Omega Speedmaster Reduced Marui Panda 

I had been wanting to make my first watch "splurge" for a while. I had never spent more than €700 on a watch, but I felt that the time had come to take the plunge. As a chronograph lover, the obvious choice was the Omega Speedmaster.

However, my budget did not allow me to afford the famous MoonWatch, and I did not want to settle for the little sister with traditional colors. I was looking for something special, but I could not find anything that seduced me... until the day I came across this watch. A Speedmaster Reduced with a mother-of-pearl dial! I was immediately seduced by its unique elegance, and after a (very) short reflection, I gave in.

I have no regrets. The dial changes appearance according to the light that hits the hesalite glass, offering a variety of shades that make each glance at my wrist special. The accuracy of the watch is excellent, and despite the mother-of-pearl dial, it remains surprisingly versatile. The slightly blue-tinted Roman numerals add a touch of eccentricity, giving more life to this dial. The asymmetrical case of the Speedmaster reduced remains faithful to its iconic design, always as elegant and relevant.

In short, I am really satisfied with this watch, especially since it dates from the year I was born! My only disappointment is not having found a model with an original steel bracelet (this reference being mounted on an original leather strap), but this small detail did not spoil my pleasure.

The most original Speedmaster

Looking for a classic Speedmaster (reduced or not), during my research, I came across this gem. Immediately, it was love at first sight, my eyes lingered on all the little details of the watch that I seemed to rediscover. It reminded me of a photographic negative version of the black Speed. It is to the sun what the Moonwatch is to the moon. This white and gold combination on a crocodile leather strap makes it much more of a "dress watch" and does not fail to arouse the curiosity of people who lay eyes on it.
