A reissue of the ST345.0809 "Speedymoon" model from 1985-1988, this Speedy with moon phase and date display is simply sublime and timeless. A holy grail of my Omega collection, no longer available in stores and difficult to find on the pre-owned market (at least according to my criteria: impeccable condition, traceability, authenticity, and revisions), this Speedy stands out for its two additional complications that the "professional" model does not have. The first, the moon phase, is more symbolic due to its history in space exploration than any real utility in everyday life. However, the moon phase disc elegantly decorates the dial with small touches of blue and gold (the moon and stars on a blue background). The second, the date display, is for me the most important complication on a watch. It's actually the number one criterion when purchasing a new timepiece! A small drawback with my Speed is that you need eagle eyes to read it, when it's not hidden behind the various hands... What I also appreciate is its readability for instant time reading; it's clear and efficient. There's also the sapphire crystal, which protects it more effectively from life's hazards, and the transparent case back reveals the caliber 1866, which mesmerizes us with the regular beats of the balance spring. A few months ago, I decided to wear it with a gray/black Omega NATO strap, and this combination suits it perfectly. It also lightens the watch's weight, reducing it to 85 grams, making it even more comfortable to wear. In short, as you might have guessed, I'm a fan of my Speedy for all the reasons mentioned and many more!
