Conclusion

The Apose Douz Celadon offers a singular and particularly refined vision of the contemporary French watch. With this celadon green dial version of the Douz collection, Apose highlights a piece that combines architectural presence, restrained design and real technical coherence. The watch plays on an aesthetic that feels both sharp and luminous, where the lines of the case, the depth of the dial and the work of light all contribute to an immediately recognisable identity. In this steel-bracelet configuration, the Apose Douz Celadon is priced at €2,950.
What makes this reference especially appealing is its ability to bring an unusual colour into a register that still feels highly controlled. The celadon green gives the watch softness and discreet sophistication, far removed from the more saturated or demonstrative tones often seen on contemporary dials. Apose builds here a watch with real character, yet without aggression, by relying on the balance between polished surfaces, luminous details and very carefully considered geometry. The result is a French watch with strong personality that still remains genuinely easy to wear every day.

What are the characteristics of the Apose Douz Celadon?

Case of the Apose Douz Celadon
The case of the Apose Douz Celadon is made of 316L stainless steel with a 40 mm diameter and 10 bar water resistance. The middle case uses a polished finish, while the 316L steel bezel combines radial brushing with a polished bevel, creating a richer play of light than one might expect from a seemingly minimalist watch. The knurled crown, also in steel, bears a raised monogram engraved by laser and receives a polished finish coherent with the rest of the case. Altogether, the watch expresses a genuine desire for sophistication in the details without becoming ostentatious. The sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment is presented by the brand as a way to intensify the depth of the dial, which directly contributes to the model’s visual identity.
Celadon dial and visual identity
The dial of the Apose Douz Celadon stands out through its matte finish and celadon green PVD coating. This tone, both soft and mineral, gives the watch a highly distinctive presence. It suggests nuance, material and diffused light more than a simple straightforward colour effect. Apose pairs this dial with a white luminous logo, reinforcing the graphic coherence of the whole. The rehaut and hour markers, made as a single piece, are also fitted with luminous material and receive a polished palladium coating. The hands follow the same logic with polished outlines, textured centres and integrated luminous material, also under palladium coating. The seconds hand, finally, stands out thanks to a small hexagon and a matte black varnish, a discreet detail that is enough to give the dial added personality.
Movement and performance
The Apose Douz Celadon is powered by a France Ebauches automatic mechanical movement. The brand states an accuracy of -4 / +4 seconds per day, a particularly serious level for a watch in this category. The movement displays hours, minutes and seconds, includes hacking seconds for precise setting, offers a 44-hour power reserve and runs at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour. The choice of a France Ebauches movement immediately strengthens the coherence of the project by placing the watch within a contemporary French production logic. Beyond aesthetics, the Apose Douz Celadon therefore also offers technical content aligned with its positioning.
Bracelet and comfort
In this configuration, the Apose Douz Celadon is fitted with a 316L steel bracelet. The brand specifies an alternation of polished and brushed links, which directly extends the language of the case. The bracelet uses a 20/18 mm width, suggesting progressive tapering favourable to both comfort and elegance on the wrist. This steel-bracelet option gives the Douz Celadon a more integrated, more contemporary and more assertive reading than the leather version. It also strengthens the coherence of the watch by creating visual continuity between case, bezel and bracelet, while still allowing the celadon dial to remain the main expressive element of the piece.
Wearability and everyday use
The great strength of the Apose Douz Celadon lies in its balance between visual originality and everyday use. Its 40 mm diameter, steel bracelet and 10 bar water resistance give it genuine versatility, while the softness of the celadon dial avoids any excess of display. It is a watch that can accompany a professional environment, a more urban outfit or a more relaxed wardrobe precisely because it expresses its singularity with restraint. The depth of the dial, reinforced by the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, together with the different plays of polished, brushed and textured surfaces, gives the watch a rich presence without making it difficult to live with. The Apose Douz Celadon will therefore appeal to enthusiasts looking for a French watch that is elegant, different and coherent in its execution.

Apose Douz Celadon: a contemporary, refined and distinctive French watch

With the Douz Celadon, Apose offers a watch that successfully combines visual identity, technical seriousness and wearable elegance. The celadon green dial, the 40 mm 316L steel case, the France Ebauches movement and the steel bracelet alternating finishes create a coherent and distinctive whole. This watch does not try to seduce through exuberance, but through the precision of its design, the quality of its details and the carefully measured originality of its colour. It therefore stands out as a very interesting proposition within the landscape of contemporary French watchmaking.

Conclusion

The Apose Douz Celadon is aimed at enthusiasts looking for a French watch that is elegant, original and technically coherent. Thanks to its celadon green dial, its France Ebauches automatic movement and its carefully executed design, it offers a contemporary and refined reading of the everyday watch.

The Omega Speedmaster, often called «Moonwatch», is one of the mechanical chronographs the most emblematic in watchmaking history. Launched at the end of the 1950s to meet the needs of drivers and motorsport enthusiasts, it especially became famous when the NASA selected it to accompany the astronauts on the Moon in 1969. Its timeless design – 42mm steel case, black dial with three counters, tachymeter bezel – and its manual winding movement give it a unique charm. Today, the Speedmaster remains both a symbol ofspace exploration and a versatile timepiece, appreciated for its robustness, precision and exceptional history.

History of the Omega Speedmaster

The Speedmaster was created in 1957. Originally, Omega conceives it as a sports chronograph intended for automobile racing, hence the presence of the tachymeter bezel allowing speed to be measured on a basis of 1000 meters. Its sober but effective design, marked by a large black dial, clearly readable counters and a robust steel case, quickly contributed to its success. Omega engineers then relied on a manually wound movement – the legendary caliber 321 – already renowned for its precision and reliability.
At the beginning of the 1960s, the NASA, in full preparation for the Gemini space program, is looking for a reliable watch to equip its astronauts. An informal call for tenders led the Agency to test several models from different brands: they were subjected to extreme conditions (violent shocks, vibrations, temperatures ranging from -18°C to +93°C, depressurization, etc.). To everyone's surprise, only one watch manages to endure all these tests without fail: the Omega Speedmaster. It was officially approved in 1965 for all human space flights.
The historic moment occurred in July 1969, during the mission Apollo 11. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, equipped with their Speedmaster on their wrists, land on the lunar surface. During this spacewalk, it was Buzz Aldrin who wore the watch outside the lunar module (Armstrong having left his on board). Thus, the Speedmaster becomes the first watch worn on the Moon, forever earning the nickname «Moonwatch». This feat seals the reputation of the Speedmaster as one of the most robust and precise watches in the world.
After the lunar episode, the Speedmaster continued to shine in other space missions. We find it during Apollo 13, where it is used to accurately time the ignition duration of the engines in order to correct the trajectory of the damaged module. Without the help of the Speedmaster, the outcome of the mission could have been completely different. This reliability, combined with the fascinating story of the conquest of space, propels the Speedmaster to the rank of absolute icon.
On the aesthetic level, the watch undergoes gradual evolutions, but theoriginal DNA (black dial with three sub-counters, tachymeter bezel, steel case measuring approximately 42mm) remains almost unchanged. The movements evolved: caliber 321 gave way to caliber 861 in 1969, then caliber 1861 in the 1990s, up to the most recent caliber 3861, introduced by Omega to further improve precision and magnetic resistance. Despite these updates, the Speedmaster preserves most of its distinctive features, which appeals to both purists in love with authenticity and newcomers looking for a model. mythical.
Today, the Speedmaster is no longer limited to the “Moonwatch Professional” version. Several versions are being released (hesalite or sapphire glass, case in steel, gold, or even high-tech materials), as well as numerous limited editions commemorating this or that space anniversary or major event. But they all retain the same heritage, that of a watch designed for adventure and precision, and which left an indelible mark on the conquest of space.

Main technical characteristics of the Speedmaster Moonwatch

Hand-wound movement

Caliber 321 (historical), 861, 1861 or more recently 3861. All share the same philosophy: reliability, emotional connection reinforced by manual winding, and above-average precision. The transition to caliber 3861 notably brings Master Chronometer certification and better resistance to magnetism.

Steel case (42mm)

The 42mm diameter, inherited from the 1960s, remains the signature of the Speedmaster “Moonwatch”. Made from stainless steel, it features polished and brushed finishes, and straight or lyre horns depending on the generation. The general architecture has changed little to preserve the authenticity of the design.

Tachymeter bezel

Flagship element for measuring speed over 1000m. Often in black aluminum, sometimes in ceramic on certain contemporary versions for greater resistance to scratches. A nod to the initial “motor racing” vocation of the Speedmaster.

Hesalite or sapphire glass

The “Professional” version adopts hesalite glass validated by NASA, known for its curved appearance and vintage look. Omega also offers a “Sapphire Sandwich” variant including transparent back and sapphire crystal, which is more scratch-resistant.

Three-counter dial

Small seconds at 9 o'clock, 30-minute totalizer at 3 o'clock and 12 hours at 6 o'clock. Indexes and hands often covered with Super-LumiNova, ensuring excellent visibility. “Speedmaster” logo and signature within 12 hours, faithful to the aesthetic of the 1960s.

Waterproofing and daily use

Around 50m, sufficient for everyday activities (rain, hand washing), even if the watch is not designed for diving. Robust and versatile, it retains a “tool” DNA adapted to many situations.

Bracelet and personalization

The steel bracelet remains the most classic configuration. Other options, such as leather or NATO, allow you to vary the style, from the most elegant to the most casual. This personalization makes it easier for each enthusiast to take ownership of the watch.

Customer reviews

Feedback regarding the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch underline several recurring points: spatial heritage, construction reliability, comfort and emotional appeal. Here is a summary of the feelings shared by many owners.
Emotion and historical heritage Many people talk about the “watch that walked on the Moon”, seeing the Speedmaster as a strong symbol of human exploration. Owning this object steeped in history provides a feeling of pride and fascination for the conquest of space.
Mechanical movement and daily winding Manual winding, an essential gesture to activate the movement, is seen as a pleasant ritual. Some, however, prefer the automatic for greater practicality, but most appreciate this direct link with watchmaking tradition.
Wearing comfort and readability Despite its diameter of 42mm, the Speedmaster is comfortable thanks to the shape of its lugs and its weight distribution. The contrasts of the black dial and white hands are also popular, offering excellent readability.
Bracelets and versatility The ability to change straps (steel, leather, NATO, etc.) gives the Speedmaster a wide variety of uses. It can easily go from a sporty look to a dressier style or from an everyday outfit to an adventurous getaway.
Reliability and maintenance Owners emphasize the solidity of the movement, provided that the recommended revisions are respected. The waterproofness (50m) is considered sufficient for everyday life, even if diving remains not recommended.
Value for money and iconic aura Finally, a consensus emerges on the fact that the Speedmaster offers consistent value for money for a chronograph with such a rich history. Its iconic status also gives it a much appreciated emotional and heritage value.
Ultimately, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is not limited to its role as a reliable chronograph: it represents a part of space history and embodies a pioneering spirit which continues to seduce several generations of enthusiasts.

The Seiko Prospex, launched worldwide in 2014, is Seiko’s major sports-watch collection and brings together under one identity watches designed for diving, land-based activities, adventure and sports timing. Its name refers to the idea of “Professional Specifications”, meaning technical characteristics suited to demanding uses.
Prospex is therefore not one individual model but a broad group of families whose roots extend much further back: the 1959 Laurel Alpinist for mountaineering, Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, the 1969 automatic Speedtimer chronograph and the 1975 titanium Professional Diver’s 600 m. The modern collection therefore uses mechanical 4R, 6R and 8L movements, Spring Drive calibres, solar movements and, historically, Kinetic technology. Water resistance, dimensions and functions vary considerably, from a compact Alpinist to a professional saturation-diving watch exceeding 45 mm.

Design and legibility: an identity built around function

There is no single Prospex design because the collection is structured around the environment for which each watch is intended. Diver’s watches generally use broad hands, large luminous hour markers and a rotating bezel for measuring dive time. Alpinist models favour a field-watch aesthetic, sometimes with a compass bezel, while Speedtimer watches organise their dials around the measurement of short intervals. The LX line pushes case finishing and movements further upmarket. The priority given to legibility and genuine use is the distinguishing characteristic shared across the entire Prospex collection. Lumibrite is widely used on hands and markers, sapphire crystal is increasingly common on mid-range and premium models and screw-down crowns appear whenever the environment requires them. Prospex watches can therefore look very different while retaining a common technical logic.
The history of Prospex is particularly closely connected with Seiko’s dive watches. Japan’s first Diver’s appears in 1965 with 150 metres of water resistance and is followed in 1968 by a Professional Diver’s 300 m with a Hi-Beat calibre. In 1975, the Professional Diver’s 600 m notably introduces a one-piece titanium case, its characteristic external protector and an accordion-style strap capable of following changes in the volume of a diving suit. Diving forms the most important historical pillar of the contemporary Prospex identity. Seiko subsequently developed quartz, Kinetic and Spring Drive technology within this environment while maintaining particular attention to resistance, visibility and underwater operation. This history explains why a substantial part of the current Prospex catalogue still relies on reinterpretations of designs from 1965, 1968, 1970 or 1975.
The collection is nevertheless not limited to water. Seiko now places the Alpinist within its Land line and traces this heritage to the 1959 Laurel Alpinist, its first watch specifically designed for sport. Speedtimer does the same with sports timing and the 1969 calibre 6139, Seiko’s first automatic chronograph equipped with both a column wheel and vertical clutch. Prospex therefore functions as a meeting point for several Seiko sporting heritages rather than simply as a collection of dive watches. This diversity makes it possible to move from a 38 mm three-hand watch to a solar chronograph, GMT, Spring Drive or saturation-diving model exceeding 45 mm without leaving the same commercial family.

Cases, bracelets and comfort: formats ranging from compact to professional

Dimensions vary enormously. A modern Alpinist can measure 38 mm and less than 47 mm lug to lug, while an LX Diver’s reaches 44.8 mm and a professional Marinemaster can exceed 45 mm with substantial thickness. This difference is not merely stylistic: it often results from water resistance, movement architecture and the possible presence of an external protector. It is therefore especially important to choose a Prospex according to its intended use and actual dimensions rather than relying only on the collection name. A 300 or 600-metre dive watch will naturally be more substantial than an Alpinist intended for hiking and city wear. Weight also varies significantly between steel, titanium, a metal bracelet, silicone and textile.
Materials follow the same logic. Stainless steel equips a large part of the range, often with a coating improving scratch resistance. Titanium appears on professional models and certain LX references to reduce weight despite substantial case sizes. Sapphire equips many current watches, although more accessible Prospex models have historically used Hardlex. Straps and bracelets need to be considered as functional components that are as important as the case. Steel provides versatility and durability, silicone is particularly appropriate for diving and leather strengthens the urban character of Alpinist models but should be avoided for repeated water use. Certain dive watches also have extension systems allowing rapid bracelet adjustment over a diving suit.

Movements: mechanical, Spring Drive, solar and Kinetic heritage

Prospex does not have one single calibre. Accessible mechanical watches frequently use the 4R and 6R families. A 4R35 or 4R36 provides a straightforward, widely available architecture that is relatively easy to service, while the 6R35, 6R54 and 6R55 notably increase power reserve to approximately 70 or 72 hours. More ambitious references can use slimmer 6L movements or the 8L family associated with higher-end sports and diving watches. This mechanical diversity allows Prospex to cover an exceptionally broad technical and price spectrum. The 8L movements occupy a more premium position, while the 6R family frequently provides the best compromise between autonomy, cost and everyday use.
Spring Drive technology appears principally within the LX line and combines a mechanical mainspring with electronic regulation without a conventional battery. An SNR029 therefore provides 72 hours of power reserve and stated accuracy of approximately ±1 second per day. At the opposite end, solar Speedtimer watches prioritise quartz accuracy, long autonomy and no regular battery replacement thanks to light-powered charging. Early international Prospex models also included Kinetic watches, whose rotor converted wrist movement into electrical energy. Movement choice should therefore be directly related to what the wearer expects from the watch rather than to an automatic hierarchy between mechanical and electronic technology. A solar diver may be more practical for occasional use, while a mechanical enthusiast may prefer 6R, 8L or Spring Drive.

Chronological milestones and main models (2014–2025)

(2014) Seiko Prospex Kinetic GMT Diver International Launch:
The global expansion of Prospex is symbolised at Baselworld 2014 by this particularly technical dive watch. The Seiko Prospex Kinetic GMT Diver SUN019 has a substantial 47.5 mm stainless-steel case using a double-case architecture inspired by the 1975 Professional Diver’s. Its bezel is unidirectional, the crystal is anti-reflective sapphire and water resistance reaches 200 metres. Calibre 5M85 Kinetic GMT converts wrist movement into electrical energy and can operate for approximately six months when fully charged. Its stated accuracy is ±15 seconds per month. The GMT hand monitors a second time zone and the hour hand can be adjusted independently, a practical advantage when travelling. Its steel bracelet has a safety clasp and extension. This reference demonstrates the original Prospex positioning particularly clearly: distinctive Seiko technology, substantial performance and unapologetic tool-watch aesthetics.
(2017) Seiko Prospex 1965 Diver’s Re-creation Return of the First Diver:
The first major modern recreation of Seiko’s 1965 diver represents an important step in the move upmarket for Prospex. The Seiko Prospex 1965 Diver’s Re-creation SLA017 reproduces the proportions and design of the 62MAS in a 39.9 mm stainless-steel case measuring 14.1 mm thick. Its crystal becomes anti-reflective box-shaped sapphire, crown and caseback screw down and water resistance now reaches 200 metres compared with 150 metres on the original. Automatic calibre 8L35 has 26 jewels, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides 50 hours of power reserve. The watch is delivered on silicone together with an additional stainless-steel bracelet. Its case receives a scratch-resistant coating and retains the historical watch’s dark-grey dial, rectangular hour markers and highly legible hands. Limited to 2,000 pieces, it establishes the principle of premium Prospex historical recreations.
(2019) Seiko Prospex LX Diver’s Spring Drive at the Top of the Range:
The LX line is introduced in 2019 as the most premium branch of Prospex, combining sports performance, titanium, more elaborate finishing and Spring Drive movements. The Seiko Prospex LX Diver’s SNR029 uses a scratch-resistant coated titanium case measuring 44.8 mm in diameter, 50.9 mm in length and 15.7 mm thick. Its sapphire crystal receives anti-reflective treatment and the watch is designed for saturation diving to 300 metres. The bezel is unidirectional, its crown and caseback screw down and the titanium bracelet includes a sliding adjustment system. Spring Drive calibre 5R65 offers 72 hours of power reserve, 30 jewels, a power-reserve indicator and stated accuracy of ±1 second per day. This reference wins the Diver’s Watch Prize at the 2019 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, strengthening the legitimacy of Prospex within a substantially more premium segment.
(2020) Seiko Prospex 55th Anniversary 1965 Diver’s High-Beat:
To celebrate fifty-five years since Seiko’s first dive watch, three historical models are recreated within Prospex. The Seiko Prospex 55th Anniversary 1965 Diver’s Re-creation SLA037 directly reproduces the architecture of the 1965 watch but uses highly corrosion-resistant Ever-Brilliant Steel. Its case measures 39.9 mm in diameter and 14.7 mm thick. The crystal is anti-reflective box-shaped sapphire, crown and caseback screw down and water resistance reaches 200 metres. The major mechanical difference is the Hi-Beat calibre 8L55: 37 jewels, a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour and 55 hours of power reserve. The strap is silicone and production is limited to 1,100 pieces. This edition demonstrates how far Prospex can take a historical recreation: a vintage silhouette on the outside but a high-frequency movement and contemporary materials inside.
(2021) Seiko Prospex 1959 Alpinist Modern Re-interpretation Return to Land-Based Origins:
In 2021, Prospex reaffirms that it is not limited to dive watches by reinterpreting Seiko’s first sports watch from 1959. The Seiko Prospex 1959 Alpinist Modern Re-interpretation SPB241 has a 38 mm stainless-steel case measuring 46.2 mm in length and 12.9 mm thick. Its cream dial reproduces the large geometric markers inspired by the mountain forms of the original Laurel Alpinist, with Lumibrite on the hands and markers. Its curved sapphire receives anti-reflective treatment, the crown screws down and a transparent caseback reveals the calibre. Water resistance reaches 20 bar, giving this field watch genuine versatility. Automatic calibre 6R35 contains 24 jewels, operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides approximately 70 hours of power reserve. Supplied on a steel bracelet, the watch perfectly illustrates the Land branch of Prospex.
(2021) Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Solar Revival of Sports Timing:
The new Speedtimer series joins Prospex in 2021 to reconnect the collection with Seiko’s rich sports-timing heritage and the automatic calibre 6139 chronograph of 1969. The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SSC813 adopts a 39 mm stainless-steel case measuring only 45.5 mm in length and 13.3 mm thick, particularly balanced dimensions for a modern chronograph. Its white dial with black subdials creates a panda-style aesthetic, while a tachymeter bezel can be used to calculate average speed. Solar calibre V192 provides a one-fifth-second chronograph up to 60 minutes, a 24-hour indication, date and power-reserve display. A full charge provides approximately six months of operation and stated accuracy reaches ±15 seconds per month. The crystal is domed sapphire, water resistance is 10 bar and the bracelet is steel. This reference rapidly becomes one of the most versatile non-diving Prospex watches.
(2024) Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Global Return of the Premium Diver:
Marinemaster is relaunched internationally within Prospex using a construction considerably slimmer than traditional professional models. The Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 1965 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation SJE099 has a stainless-steel case and bracelet measuring 39.5 mm in diameter and only 12.3 mm thick. Its design uses several codes from the 1965 62MAS, while the dial receives a horizontal wave-inspired texture. Its box-shaped sapphire is anti-reflective, the crown screws down and water resistance reaches 200 metres. For the first time in a Seiko mechanical diver in this category, a transparent caseback reveals calibre 6L37. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, contains 26 jewels and provides 45 hours of power reserve. Its slim construction allows the watch to retain a much more elegant profile than traditional Professional Diver’s models while still meeting the requirements of a genuine dive watch.
(2025) Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Professional 60th Anniversary New 600-Metre Generation:
For the sixtieth anniversary of Japan’s first Diver’s, Seiko introduces a new Marinemaster intended to return Prospex to the highest level of its professional diving range. The Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Professional SLA081 uses a one-piece titanium case measuring 45.4 mm in diameter and 16 mm thick, with dual-curved sapphire and a titanium bracelet. Water resistance reaches 600 metres for saturation diving. As on the revolutionary 1975 model, a specific construction and L-shaped gasket limit helium infiltration without requiring an escape valve. New automatic calibre 8L45 contains 35 jewels, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and increases power reserve to 72 hours, with stated accuracy between -5 and +10 seconds per day. Its gradient blue dial evokes the deep sea. Limited to 600 pieces, this reference represents one of the most technically advanced expressions of Prospex in 2025.

Choosing the right watch: Diver’s, Alpinist, Speedtimer or LX according to use

For diving and aquatic activities, the first consideration should be the water-resistance specification and the standard corresponding to the individual watch rather than simply the Prospex logo. A 200 or 300-metre Diver’s has a screw-down crown, appropriate bezel and underwater legibility, whereas a 10-bar Speedtimer addresses a completely different need. A Prospex Diver’s is the logical choice when aquatic use is genuinely part of the programme. A Marinemaster becomes relevant when a higher level of movement, construction or finishing is also desired.
For versatile everyday use, the Alpinist is generally much easier to wear. Diameters close to 38–39.5 mm, 20-bar water resistance on several references and long-running 6R calibres make these excellent rotation watches. Some have a compass bezel, while others return to the simpler 1959 design. The Alpinist is probably the most appropriate Prospex entry point for someone not specifically looking for a dive watch. It also slides beneath a sleeve considerably more easily than a large Professional Diver’s.
Speedtimer better suits someone who genuinely uses or appreciates a chronograph. Solar models provide high accuracy, months of autonomy and very little maintenance, while mechanical 8R chronographs add a column wheel and vertical clutch but are thicker and more expensive to service. The solar Speedtimer represents the most rational choice for regular timing without the constraints of a complex mechanical movement. Mechanical versions are more strongly aimed at enthusiasts attached to Seiko’s chronograph history.
Size should be checked reference by reference. Between a 38 mm Alpinist, 39 mm Speedtimer, almost 45 mm LX and a Professional Diver’s sometimes exceeding 45 mm and 15 mm thick, the wrist experience has almost nothing in common. Titanium can substantially reduce weight but does not necessarily reduce physical size. Trying the watch on is especially advisable for Prospex models exceeding approximately 43 mm or 14 mm thick. The short lugs of certain dive watches can nevertheless improve comfort more than diameter alone suggests.
Finally, movement should be chosen according to wearing habits. A 6R with 70 or 72 hours is particularly practical when rotating several watches, while a solar movement can remain operational for months. An 8L provides more premium mechanics and Spring Drive substantially greater precision than a conventional automatic. There is therefore no objectively superior Prospex: the best one is the watch whose specifications genuinely correspond to the intended use. On a pre-owned dive watch, a water-resistance test remains essential before any significant immersion. Other customers’ opinions are essential.

Conclusion

Seiko Prospex is aimed at enthusiasts seeking a sports watch built around a concrete purpose rather than a collection defined by one single style. Its catalogue ranges from compact Alpinist watches to professional divers, sports-timing Speedtimers and Spring Drive LX models. The 6R references frequently provide the best compromise for everyday use, while 8L, Spring Drive and Marinemaster models appeal to someone seeking greater performance or sophistication. Size, water resistance and movement type should be examined before aesthetics alone because the differences between one Prospex and another can be substantial.

But this can be an advantage when you want to keep time during a meeting or while waiting in a lounge before boarding; you simply place the watch on the table in front of you. The small seconds hand offers the benefit of not adding too much pressure when you glance at the dial, but the ticking sound reminds you that time is passing and you need to get to the point. Of course, if you're in a noisy environment, you won't even notice it anymore.

The closely spaced Roman numerals suit it well, in my opinion. Note that the IV is in standard watchmaking format to avoid confusion with a VI, which is absent anyway due to the small seconds subdial. The case back is simply scratched and clipped on. The movement offers good resistance when winding. The crown is perhaps a little small at 6mm; a slightly larger one would have provided a better grip, but aesthetically it might have been a drawback. It's an 18-jewel 3602 movement from the Chelyabinsk Watch Factory, apparently produced in the second quarter of 1962. The soundtrack I would associate with this watch would be "Run" by Ev3nmorn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFNIdGzdWoU&t=425s

The Breguet Type XXII 10 Hz is a watch that immediately resonated with me for one simple reason: it doesn't feel like a display of style, but rather a demonstration of intent. The Breguet Type XXII 10 Hz is a watch that immediately resonated with me for one simple reason: it doesn't feel like a display of style, but rather a demonstration of intent. The moment you take a closer look, you understand that it was designed to express something very specific: speed, precision, and technical audacity. It's not just a pilot's chronograph inspired by a great historical lineage; it's a watch that seeks to push the boundaries of a standard mechanical chronograph with its 10 Hz frequency, or 72,000 vibrations per hour. At Breguet, this choice is far from trivial: it allows for readings to the nearest 1/20th of a second, with a central hand that completes a full rotation in 30 seconds.

What moves me about this watch is that it doesn't try to seduce in an easy way. It's neither sleek, nor discreet, nor conventional. With its 44mm steel case, bidirectional rotating 60-minute bezel, deep black dial, and highly technical architecture, it fully embraces its character.

In a collection like mine, where very simple, almost modest watches sit alongside others that are far more ambitious, the Type XXII holds a special place: that of a watch that is not merely beautiful or prestigious, but that expresses a vision.

And that is undoubtedly what I love most about watchmaking, along with time itself: not just the finished product, but the tension an object embodies. Some watches offer immediate peace. Others offer a kind of energy. The Type XXII clearly belongs to this second category. One senses in this piece a brand that didn't simply want to celebrate the past, but rather extend it into a form of vibrant modernity. Breguet conceived it as a modern and technical reinterpretation of the Type XX, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the 1960 delivery of 500 first-generation Type XX watches to the French Naval Aviation. This gives it genuine historical depth without confining it to mere nostalgia.

Technically, it's a fascinating watch. Its caliber 589F is a Breguet-signed automatic chronograph with a flyback function and second time zone, featuring a high-frequency silicon escapement and a silicon balance spring. The power reserve is 45 hours—not quite enough—the movement is adjusted in five positions, and the watch is water-resistant to 100 meters.

I really like the idea that such a sophisticated watch can remain a truly practical timepiece, almost a travel watch. The second time zone at 6 o'clock, the 24-hour indicator at 3 o'clock to distinguish between day and night, the date, the small seconds at 9 o'clock—all these elements contribute to a dense yet coherent display.

What I particularly appreciate is how this technology enhances emotion instead of overwhelming it. Often, watches that are very mechanically demonstrative can become somewhat cold. This is not the case here. The high frequency, the flyback function, the distinctive chronograph display—all of this gives the feeling of wearing not just a luxury item, but a more dynamic, more intense, almost more vibrant sense of time. There is something exhilarating about this watch. It doesn't soothe me; it awakens me. It reminds me that watchmaking is not only the art of preserving traditional forms, but also of constantly reinventing our way of interacting with time.

In my collection, the Breguet Type XXII 10 Hz isn't the most conventional, nor the easiest to immediately appreciate. But it's one of those that holds the most meaning. It reminds me that, even after years of looking at, buying, wearing, and comparing watches from all over the world, there are still pieces capable of sparking something rare: not simply admiration, but genuine curiosity. And for me, that's often where attachment begins.

Time pushed to the extreme

Conclusion

ZRC is a watch brand founded in 1904 in Geneva, Switzerland, by Edmond Zuccolo and Joseph Rochet. Born in the field of pocket-watch chains and later expandable metal bracelets, the brand now caters to enthusiasts of iconic tool divers, made famous by its Grands Fonds developed for the French Navy from the 1960s onward.

6 o’clock crown, monobloc case and French Navy spirit

Engineered to meet the operational demands of French Navy mine-clearance divers, the Grands Fonds features a 6 o’clock crown, a monobloc case and in-house solutions such as ECS (Easy Clean System) and CPS (Crown Protection System). In practice, the 6 o’clock crown and CPS prevent the watch from being worn unless the crown is fully screwed down, reducing user error prior to immersion; ECS helps flush out salt to prevent crystallization under the bezel.

Grands Fonds and contemporary variants

The current collection translates the historical DNA (legibility, field ergonomics, tool-watch silhouette) into multiple sizes and performance levels. Whichever the model, the 6 o’clock signature ensures instant readability and an immediately recognisable identity.

ZRC Grands Fonds MN64 — Core diver inspired by 1964, 300 m, bold legibility for versatile daily wear.

ZRC Grands Fonds Hertiage — Smaller 38 mm option retaining the 6 o’clock crown signature for slimmer wrists.

ZRC Securicode — Reinterpretation of a late-1950s/1960s theme with historical design elements.

Positioning: pro tool, pricing and distribution

The brand’s stance is that of an independent Swiss “diving instrument,” with production volumes not disclosed and selective distribution (specialist retailers and direct sales). As a guide, many steel references sit around €2,500–3,000, while technical titanium pieces exceed €4,000; special editions or precious-metal variants are significantly higher. Presence is established in Europe such as Soprana in Italy or Junod in Switzerland, and selected Asian/Middle-Eastern markets through a tight retail network.

Conclusion

ZRC speaks to those who value immediately recognisable tool-watch design with functional clarity and a strong signature. Your choice will likely fall between versatile daily wear (Grands Fonds 300/38), an emphatic historical link (MN64, Securicode), or a more technical, extreme approach (Grands Fonds 3000 Titanium). Ergonomics benefit from the 6 o’clock crown and CPS safety; purists will appreciate the overall coherence. To refine your decision beyond the spec sheet, rely on Dialicious customer reviews to understand comfort, real-world legibility and on-wrist feel.
