Fake Daytona or Dayto Killer?

The model that jolted Zenith out of its slumber upon its launch, or rather its completely redesigned reissue, quickly became its best-seller, and objectively, it's easy to see why: It stands out amidst collections that, apart from certain Pantone-style collaborations or ultra-limited editions (GFJ), truly lack imagination, freshness, and innovation. Visually, the watch is almost perfect for a chronograph: a well-balanced 41mm case with a sublime array of different sunburst colors on the three subdials (small seconds at 9 o'clock, 60-minute counter at 6 o'clock, 60-second counter at 3 o'clock). The dial is a lovely matte white with applied, beveled hour markers coated with a luminescent dot at the bottom. The date is well-positioned, and the iconic "el primero" inscription sits in its proper place. Water resistance to 10 bar for a chronograph provides peace of mind, and the ceramic bezel, engraved with a 1/10th of a second display, is very aesthetically pleasing, giving the watch a truly distinctive look. The real highlight of this watch is undoubtedly its movement, the most iconic in the watchmaking world, boasting a 60-hour power reserve and beating at a frequency of 5 Hz for near-perfect precision for an automatic. The El Primero caliber is visible through the sapphire crystal case back and is truly a pleasure to behold. It measures to 1/10th of a second, which adds even more vibrancy to the overall design when activated. The watch is clearly a visual and chronometric triumph. Objectively more precise than a Daytona, subjectively more refined. I appreciate my watch because I rarely see it, and it always sparks discussion and debate—a small but significant pleasure.

Pros & Cons for this watch

The option to put it on a rubber strap

or on a new-generation steel bracelet with micro-adjustment

An attractive price point on the second-hand market

The old bracelet is basic.

The mirror polish on the center jerseys is irrelevant.

Those small-minded people who still think the Daytona is better.
