The Yes Watch is an atypical watch and yet it seems completely natural to me. It is true that it is imposing: 46mm in diameter and 16 millimeters thick, my wrist is 19cm in circumference, and it fits quite well. I chose a yellow strap which is quite visible, since having an imposing watch might as well assume it, and the yellow is in keeping with its solar aspect. It is imposing, but what is inside is just as much, there are 54 functions! There is a digital time display and a hand on a 24-hour dial with noon at the top. The same hand can be disengaged to make a compass, but its main role is to show where we are in the day. A moon phase indicator is placed between the center and 6 o'clock. This is a real moon phase, on an LCD screen and not the distant moon phases which actually look like a lunar eclipse because they remain hopelessly concave. The periods of night and twilight (therefore sunset and sunrise) are also shown on the lower half of the screen (noon being at the top). We realize in France that the night is always shifted to the left, which is not the case in normal countries. This comes from the decision in 1940 to live on Berlin time rather than London time and the change to summer time makes the case even worse. Solar noon and solar midnight are indicated as well as moonrise and moonset. In addition to all this information visible on the screen, we can find other information with the function buttons, or display those which are represented in the form of precise numbers. So of course, I'm going to be told what do we need all this information on our wrist when with a smartphone in our pocket we can have it wherever we are thanks to its computing power and GPS? Well, this questioning is valid for all wristwatches, three-hand watches with dates, mobile phones had already made them obsolete even before the arrival of smartphones. Watches bring us a poetry and mobility that smartphones don't have. The watch recharges every quarter, because the tritium screen is quite power-hungry, there is a wireless charger which is quite practical for the few times a year when it needs to be recharged. The next opus of this project will be the Copernicus planned for the end of 2025, it will be a little thinner and equipped with a GPS simplifying the setting of the time when traveling. This is how we should think of watches: showing what the day looks like, it's a shame there are so few with this mindset.
