Superb BB54 just hung on my feverish wrist. This watch represents for me the comfort of vintage with today's reliability. This 54 version erases all the details that had pushed me to part with my 58 (the golden numbers on the bezel, the red triangle, the too large lug space)... a Bondian diver! It didn't spend two hours in my AD's display case. The T Fit adjustment of the bracelet is a treat and a real plus. Tudor even replaced the second snowflake with a lollipop like on the original Oyster Prince... Only good things.

It reproduces trait for trait the visual and the proportions of the legendary 7922 of 1954 (hence the name BB54). But with all the advantages of a modern one that can be worn daily without stress. The case is very thin as often pointed out, but it is also very flat with long horns and it is really great. The slightly domed dial is very qualitative. The whole is super refined. Water-resistant to 200m, 70h of RDM thanks to the in-house caliber. What more could you ask for...

The Black Bay 54 is the most representative example of the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. The 37 mm case retains the same proportions as before, while benefiting from the TUDOR Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m, technical feats.

HISTORICAL PROPORTIONS AND TECHNICAL PROWESS

The Black Bay 54 model is the model closest, aesthetically speaking, to the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. Offered with a 37 mm case, it retains the general proportions of its source of inspiration while being equipped with the high-performance Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m. A characteristic element and faithful to the aesthetics of the period, the unidirectional bezel does not have a minute graduation. However, the aesthetic details do not stop at the dimensions of the case and the bezel. The seconds hand, with its round luminous disc, evokes the appearance of the hand of the original model. The ergonomics have also evolved with a redesigned crown and bezel, but which nevertheless retain the historical spirit.

A DIVE INTO THE PAST

The spirit of Black Bay is part of the history of the brand. The Black Bay line has always highlighted iconic elements of old TUDOR diver’s watches, but the Black Bay 54 is perhaps the closest model to a specific historical piece created to date. The Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, one of the first modern diver’s watches, is a great source of inspiration since it is known to have been evaluated and then adopted by the French and American Navies as well as widely used by the pioneers of professional diving. The first versions of the reference 7922 featured a “small crown”, but not yet the red triangle at 12 o’clock, which would later become one of the brand’s signatures. These details gave it a refined and understated aesthetic. The Black Bay 54 is faithful to its model and takes up a large number of distinctive details. The minute hand, for example, in addition to adjusted proportions, is beveled at its base, as on the 1954 model. The second hand is as close as can be to the original. The profile of the bezel ring is also faithful to that of the reference 7922, as are the markings on its aluminum insert. The Black Bay 54 also features resolutely modern touches, such as a satin-sun dial and a “T-fit” clasp for a perfect fit and, of course, the Manufacture Caliber MT5400, a concentrate of high-performance watchmaking technology.

This exceptional Tudor Black Bay, produced in just 100 copies, on the occasion of the 100th combat swimmers’ course. It is a rare masterpiece, marked by a unique innovation: its inner crown is numbered, a bold first in the history of Tudor, combining elegance and performance. We never tire of admiring it on its exceptional case!

Exclusivity

As soon as its official release was announced, it took me only one day to call the AD and reserve one! It is exactly what I expected from Tudor: a slim, ultra-comfortable diver with a vintage style. The BB54 ticks all the boxes, being nothing more and nothing less than a "reissue" of the famous Oyster Prince Submariner 7922.

I prefer it to the BB58 (which I had): it is much more comfortable, its dial has more sparkle, it has no "gilt" on the bezel, and the bracelet with the "T-Fit" system is a real plus.

Although it displays 37 mm on paper, this is actually misleading, because its case is almost the same size as that of the BB58. With a lug-to-lug length of 46.5 mm, it is certainly not a small watch.

On the wrist, it is an absolute comfort, and it has a very classy side. A perfect watch for everyday wear.

Tudor continues to produce great watches!

The Vintage / Modern Diver

An exceptional piece that combines elegance and ideal proportions. Its dial offers perfect readability, and the thinness of the case makes it incredibly comfortable on the wrist. Since I acquired it, it has taken a central place in my collection, to the point of making me say goodbye to my Submariner 114060. A choice I don't regret for a second.

Tudor Black Bay 54: The watch that made me sell my Sub

The more I look at it, the more I fall in love with it. This watch is just magical. What I like about the Black Bay 54 is that it goes incognito, it is discreet, you have to be a connoisseur to notice it. You can feel it slightly on the wrist, it is very pleasant. All my other watches seem huge to me now. I have a 17.5 cm wrist, it fits me perfectly. The only flaw for me, the watch being very small, you have to handle the bezel and the crown with care. I never get tired of the noise of the bezel when it turns. Good quality bracelet.

Sublime

Initially waiting for a black bay 58, the announcement of the BB54 made me swoon. This new model represents, for me, the best that Tudor can do while being simple. When the AD called me to tell me that a BB58 was available, I naturally passed on my turn by asking him to put me on the list for the BB54.

This model keeps the white indexes with these gold outlines, and the snowflake hour hand to remove several things that I liked less on the BB58: the red triangle of the bezel, the gold minute numbers and the minute lines between 1 and 10. We also find (to my great pleasure) the lollipop second which obviously recalls the famous Sub of the brand with the crown.

6 months of waiting and I find myself wearing this rather simple and discreet model for a few months now, which suits my chicken wrist perfectly. What a pleasure to have this useless object on my wrist! I never tire of watching the seconds tick by on it. The fairly classic black dial doesn't offer an incredible reflection but the overall balance of the watch fills me with satisfaction.
For me it is perfect both aesthetically and technically with its COSC manufacture movement and its T-fit bracelet adjustment which allows it to be perfectly adjusted (I am often between 2 link sizes on all my watches with steel bracelets..).

So there you have it, once again only pleasure with this Tudor Black Bay 54 which perfectly matches my (classic) tastes and my appetite for simple and well-made objects!

Filled with pleasure

The BB54 when it was announced, ticked a lot of boxes, it's true that Tudor has the talent to make us want with its watches.
And it caught the eye of a lot of people, I wasn't specifically looking for a watch.
But it also caught the eye of my wife, I am particularly interested in a Sub 5513 or 14060M, so I was not insensitive to its charm and its history.
As much as the BB58 guilt never attracted me with its golden bezel and its two snowflake hands, the BB54 erased that, all that was missing was a case in 40 and a Mercedes hand and there, we really arrived at what Rolex and Tudor did in the 50s.
I suspected that we would have to wait months before it was available, but after a brief fitting in the galleries in Paris, I had the opportunity to acquire one.
It fits on my wrist (17/17.5 cm) as well as on my wife's (14.5 cm).
My wife wears it quite regularly and it fits her quite well, but the big oyster links do not make it easy to adjust, even with the T-Fit, I am waiting for a half link and it will be perfect.
After a few weeks, looking at the BB54 on my wrist, I still find it quite small and so, I wear it less often.
It is a very beautiful watch, discreet, qualitative and its size corresponds well to its history, we hesitated to keep it, but something prevents us from parting with it.
