HISTORICAL PROPORTIONS AND TECHNICAL PROWESS

The Black Bay 54 model is the model closest, aesthetically speaking, to the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. Offered with a 37 mm case, it retains the general proportions of its source of inspiration while being equipped with the high-performance Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m. A characteristic element and faithful to the aesthetics of the period, the unidirectional bezel does not have a minute graduation. However, the aesthetic details do not stop at the dimensions of the case and the bezel. The seconds hand, with its round luminous disc, evokes the appearance of the hand of the original model. The ergonomics have also evolved with a redesigned crown and bezel, but which nevertheless retain the historical spirit.

A DIVE INTO THE PAST

The spirit of Black Bay is part of the history of the brand. The Black Bay line has always highlighted iconic elements of old TUDOR diver’s watches, but the Black Bay 54 is perhaps the closest model to a specific historical piece created to date. The Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, one of the first modern diver’s watches, is a great source of inspiration since it is known to have been evaluated and then adopted by the French and American Navies as well as widely used by the pioneers of professional diving. The first versions of the reference 7922 featured a “small crown”, but not yet the red triangle at 12 o’clock, which would later become one of the brand’s signatures. These details gave it a refined and understated aesthetic. The Black Bay 54 is faithful to its model and takes up a large number of distinctive details. The minute hand, for example, in addition to adjusted proportions, is beveled at its base, as on the 1954 model. The second hand is as close as can be to the original. The profile of the bezel ring is also faithful to that of the reference 7922, as are the markings on its aluminum insert. The Black Bay 54 also features resolutely modern touches, such as a satin-sun dial and a “T-fit” clasp for a perfect fit and, of course, the Manufacture Caliber MT5400, a concentrate of high-performance watchmaking technology.

There are watches that go beyond their utilitarian function to become legendary. The Rolex GMT-Master II is one of them: a watch born in the sky, designed for pilots, adopted by travelers, and now reinvented in a new and elegant version, the “Bruce Wayne,” with its black and gray ceramic bezel.

I just bought this beautiful Tudor Black Bay 36 blue dial. We really feel a move upmarket at Tudor with these new models (both in terms of price and perceived quality). This Black Bay is less of a toolwatch than the previous model but has its charm. The new dial and jubilee bracelet with the T-Fit are superb. A real pleasure to wear every day!

Bought on the occasion of my graduation as my first high-end watch, and chosen to be able to accompany me all my life in all circumstances. I have an active lifestyle (daily cyclist, cycle touring, hiking, many train journeys etc ...) but I am not an extreme explorer, I do not work in a large bank or am not regularly invited to social cocktails, and so this discreet, sporty, resistant, reliable, inexpensive to maintain watch, with vintage inspirations and modern features, is truly the ideal companion for my daily life! Its steel bracelet is ideal for this versatile use, in addition to being of superb quality, and even if I have not yet tried the NATO or leather bracelets seem to suit it wonderfully. I appreciate the fact that it is contained with its 36mm but that it still has a nice presence with its imposing build, I appreciate the winks and the adequacy with the Tudor heritage (the snowflake hands, the smile text, the ETA movement, the case back almost identical to a Rolex etc ...). I also really like its discretion, its simplicity, which does not attract the eye and does not try to tell everyone that I am wearing an expensive watch, but I also appreciate the universe and the heritage of the brand which still today has a strong sporting spirit. In short, this watch is so qualitative and versatile that I have had trouble wearing my other watches for 2 months as the Tudor is the easy choice, and if its weak power reserve can discourage rotation, in truth this watch is intended to be worn every day, it is intended to be a "one-watch collection".

The only watch you need

I bought this superb Black Bay 36 champagne dial version 2023, because it is one of the rare models, in the budget I had two months ago, to match my purchasing criteria: 36mm (over 37, it's already too much for me), thin, comfortable to wear, classy, without extravagance, simple, precise, from a renowned brand.

However... it is a transitional watch: I admit it!

Indeed, my watchmaking grail (and I sincerely believe that once I have acquired it, I will not buy anything else, in my life if not for years), is a Rolex, Datejust, 36mm, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet, in gold (yellow) and steel, white dial with Roman numerals.
It's this classy watch above all, of an ideal size, mythical, that of Patrick Bateman / Christian Bale in American Psycho (or rather that which resembles it, since, in the film, it's a Seiko that he wears, but of this style) - it's this watch that I absolutely want, without a doubt. 
And, in the meantime, I'm wearing this marvel of Tudor. Transitional watch, while waiting for the dream. Not that I'll sell my Tudor. Certainly I'll wear the Rolex exclusively at work, and the Tudor in more "risky" places, in the big city center, on weekends to relax, for example. 

This is the tour de force, in my opinion, of Tudor: to make me dream with an impeccable watch while waiting for the watchmaking Grail. 

And there's nothing shameful about that! Tudor can be proud of this release.

I have owned this model for two years. Although my collection is growing, it adorns my wrist every day.

I fell under the spell of its simple and refined dial. The symmetry of its indexes that swim in the deep waters of this black lacquered dial is captivating.
From professional meetings to evenings with friends, it blends into my little wrist.
