Here's a quick introduction to my new Spinnaker Spence 300 watch, a timepiece created in homage to Edward Lee Spence, known for his contributions to maritime archaeology and his lasting impact on our understanding of maritime history. Spinnaker belongs to the Dartmouth Brands group, based in London (but with a strong presence in Hong Kong). This group also owns brands like Avi-8, Nubeo, and Duxot. Founded in 2013, this brand has established itself as a go-to choice for watch enthusiasts seeking a "diver" style watch without breaking the bank. While the design is European, the manufacturing is Asian, resulting in a good price-to-quality ratio. While most models have a classic "diver" style, like their most famous model, the Fleuss, colorful limited editions resulting from regular collaborations (SpongeBob, Popeye, etc.) bring a certain freshness and a touch of charm to the brand. While most models feature the NH35 caliber, renowned for its reliability but less so for its precision, this Spence 300 boasts a Miyota 9 series movement, specifically the 9039 (no date). This movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, ensuring accurate timekeeping. Its main features: Slimness: Its greatest asset. The "300" in its name not only refers to water resistance but also highlights the achievement of having a 300-meter (30 ATM) certified dive watch with an extremely slim profile. Thickness: Only 10.9 mm. This is a remarkable feat for an automatic watch water-resistant to this depth, allowing it to easily slip under a shirt cuff. Diameter: 40 mm, a universal size that suits almost any wrist. Lug-to-lug: Approximately 48 mm, ensuring excellent fit on the wrist. I particularly appreciate the overall look of this watch, but especially its comfort thanks to its slim profile. The smooth sweep of the seconds hand, due to the high-frequency movement, and the very good lume (bezel and dial) are also noteworthy. It was certainly a worthwhile purchase, although not initially planned due to the high list price of this model (€650), but made possible by a significant discount.
