I'd like to introduce you to my latest acquisition, recently made at Timefest #3. It's an HGP Night Diver 200M Automatic Full-Lume, a mechanical dive watch that combines a rich horological heritage with maximum nighttime visibility. HGP (short for Hommes Grenouilles de Paris, meaning "Frogmen of Paris") is a brand originally associated with a Parisian dive shop from the 1970s and recently relaunched by the same owners as the Wolbrook brand, known for their "skindiver" watches. This is a true tool watch, assembled in France. The highlight of this watch is its case. HGP uses the renowned Monnin® case shape, characterized by a robust design with integrated protective shoulders and streamlined lines. The Night Diver's case is crafted from 316L stainless steel with a fully sandblasted finish, giving it a matte, technical, and distinctly military look while eliminating unwanted reflections. Furthermore, this Night Diver model features a dial entirely coated with Super-LumiNova® C3. By day, the dial displays a subtly pale yellow hue, while at night it transforms into a veritable torch, illuminating the entire dial with an intense green glow. A small detail about the date disc: it's a black disc with numerals printed in Super-LumiNova C3, ensuring perfect legibility. Other features include a 42mm diameter with a 47mm lug-to-lug measurement, making the watch compact and comfortable for most wrists. The relatively thin 13.2mm profile imposed by the NH35 movement is barely noticeable when worn. In my case, over four seasons, I've observed an average deviation of +4 seconds per day. Finally, a flat sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating, 200-meter water resistance ensured by a non-transparent screw-down case back, and a 120-click unidirectional bezel with a luminescent triangular insert at 12 o'clock are the last features I observed. As soon as I took it out of the pouch, I replaced the fully sandblasted, 3-link steel bracelet with quick-release spring bars with an aftermarket rubber strap due to the start of summer and its warm temperatures, so I haven't been able to test it yet. You can get the pre-assembled Tropic Rally version for a bit less on the website. In short, for a price generally around €500, the HGP Night Diver offers excellent value for money for fans of neo-retro dive watches with a strong visual personality. I am very satisfied with this robust and comfortable tool watch. I would have gladly paid 200 or 300 euros more for a higher-end movement and therefore a case that is 1 or 2 mm thinner.
