A beautiful creation by Christopher Ward, this Bel Canto features a striking hour complication.

The watch and the gong are made of titanium.

The gong's sound isn't extraordinary, but it's perceptible despite its discreet nature.
The case back has been crafted to enhance resonance.
As always with CW, the finishing is of high quality for the price.
The hour chime can be deactivated using the pusher at 4 o'clock.
The power reserve is a bit short (by today's standards) at 38 hours.
The grade 5 titanium is well-crafted, with alternating brushed and polished surfaces.
One minor drawback: the hour and minute hands are somewhat difficult to read due to the fact that they are only slightly distinct from a white bridge located just below.

The watch is very comfortable and, of course, lightweight to wear.
The visual display of the hammer striking the gong is an interesting and original feature in this price range. The hour-passing complication isn't particularly difficult to implement on an existing movement, but the gong was challenging to develop, as was achieving the resonance of titanium, which was no easy feat. The bracelet's micro-adjustment system is very simple to use, allowing you to gain those few millimeters needed in summer.

A charming watch thanks to its original complication

It's very unusual to see the moon occupy such a large portion of the dial.

The moon is beautifully rendered, with a sense of depth, and stands out magnificently against the midnight blue aventurine dial.
The moon is very visible under UV light and contains a touch of Luminova, making it highly visible in the early evening.
The dial is very well designed and gives the impression of a moon waxing and waning as if by magic on a plain dial.
Three hands, central seconds, no date.
No hour markers or Luminova, nothing to distract from the moon, which is truly the star of this watch.
The shimmering glitter within the aventurine of the dial is a delight to behold in the light.
The case is approximately 40 mm in diameter, and the 5-link bracelet alternates between brushed and polished finishes, making it comfortable and robust. No micro-adjustments are needed.
The watch is relatively thin.
The movement is simple and unmodified, but it does the job with a modest 38-hour power reserve.

Original and amazing moon phase

Released in 2023, I had to wait three years at my favorite authorized dealer to receive it: it's produced in very limited quantities.

It felt strange at first: so light it almost felt like wearing a costume.

On the wrist, you forget you're even wearing it, thanks to its lightness, the slim case, and its short lugs. The brushed titanium has a beautiful shade of gray (apart from a few chamfers), which complements the various shades of black used for the dial and bezel. Note the matte black background and polished black indices, all in ceramic. These shades of black catch the light beautifully, making it a very pleasing watch to look at.
It's not a diver's watch, so the bezel is bidirectional.

70-hour power reserve, 100-meter water resistance: a watch that's easy to live with. I could have done without the date and the cyclops lens, but let's not quibble... Regarding the photo taken on my wrist, note that it has a circumference of 22 cm. With its short lugs, I think the watch could easily be worn on wrists of 17 cm, or even less.

The first Rolex made entirely of titanium - original and very wearable

I have long wanted a Rolex Explorer II, but this watch has all the qualities in my opinion, and I am always happy to wear it.

The perfect day watch

Of course I had wanted to add an El Primero caliber to my collection for a long time.
But I had never had a crush on the recent Zeniths, finding for example the tricolor sub-dials of the Chronomasters not to my taste.
Until I found first in the press and then at a reseller this limited edition designed for Hodinkee.
Love at first sight!
First the complications: chrono + annual calendar (day date month) + moon phase
Then the dial, more precisely the meteorite sub-dials
Barely a hesitation in front of the 38 mm diameter, a little small for my 22 cm circumference wrist
I generally find the chronometer complication useless and boring, but I find myself starting the chrono of my Zenith several times a day as the movement of the small hand to the tenth of a second is fascinating and hypnotizing. It really is a very beautiful caliber.
The meteorite subdials look good on the black background, sober and discreet, a little old school
The thickness of the watch remains very reasonable despite the number of complications on board
Only small downside: the bracelet. It is very comfortable, but not up to the standard of the rest of the watch, lacking in particular easy micro-adjustment (I'm nitpicking a little, it still includes an adjustment possibility of about 1cm with basic tools; but for this price, many competitors do better)

Complications, performance, discretion and retro

This is the third creation by Blaise-Dominique Giuliani, a designer based in Marseille, after the Mille-Mer and the Star-Diver.
We find Bohen's codes in the shapes of the case.
The watch is very thin (less than 13 mm) for a resistance of 600 meters.
The finishes are superb, from the brushed sunray dial in shades of gray and black (which also has brown highlights of the most beautiful effect) to the indexes, to the case itself, alternating brushed steel and polished steel.
As on its big sisters, an absolutely perfect bracelet, large adjustment range in the clasp, very strong decrease in the width of the bracelet between the width at the lugs and that at the clasp, which contributes to the stability of the watch on the wrist.
A high-quality hyper luminova, which still allows you to read the time at the end of the night.
The case back is not transparent, which is not surprising for a watch diving to this depth, and a shame because Blaise-Dominique reworks the movement provided by Soprod a lot.
60-click bezel, very precise and well adjusted
Note that the watch is delivered in a superb case, and with two rubber straps that can be very easily put on.
After a few days and nights on the wrist: a very easy watch to wear, on my large 23 cm wrists, as on more "normal" wrists, due to short horns, the balance of the watch, the decreasing width of the strap. A strap that is easy to adjust in a few seconds to the variations in circumference of your wrist. And above all, a very beautiful watch, a magnificent dial with changing reflections, whose balance is not disturbed by a date window, perfect readability, a contained diameter. Original design, and yet a reassuring watch by its presence, its weight, its balance. A watch that is very easy to wear on a daily basis, more so than its two big sisters, which are more tool-watch type.

A virile and fine diver at the same time, superbly finished
