Christopher Ward C1 Bel Canto Owner Review : Astute, fun and stylish

A beautiful creation by Christopher Ward, this Bel Canto features a striking hour complication. The watch and the gong are made of titanium. The gong's sound isn't extraordinary, but it's perceptible despite its discreet nature. The case back has been crafted to enhance resonance. As always with CW, the finishing is of high quality for the price. The hour chime can be deactivated using the pusher at 4 o'clock. The power reserve is a bit short (by today's standards) at 38 hours. The grade 5 titanium is well-crafted, with alternating brushed and polished surfaces. One minor drawback: the hour and minute hands are somewhat difficult to read due to the fact that they are only slightly distinct from a white bridge located just below. The watch is very comfortable and, of course, lightweight to wear. The visual display of the hammer striking the gong is an interesting and original feature in this price range. The hour-passing complication isn't particularly difficult to implement on an existing movement, but the gong was challenging to develop, as was achieving the resonance of titanium, which was no easy feat. The bracelet's micro-adjustment system is very simple to use, allowing you to gain those few millimeters needed in summer.
