At the time I acquired this watch I wasn't a big fan of the brand, I had had other very nice brands for quite some time, and even from the age of 10 when I could buy myself or have my grandmother give me a watch I did! In 2011, during a life change, this green one caught my eye. At the time, I didn't like the classic black Submariner; I had several other dive watches that I found more appealing, such as my Planet Ocean, Oris, and Panerai 112, which I adored. I wore that one for everything, but you don't always get what you want. It ended up being sold, like so many others... But I really liked this green one, and the Pepsi one too. I should have bought one back then, because they were practically worthless. Fifteen years ago, people talked more about pre-owned than vintage watches. And to mark the occasion, as my brother used to say, I splurged on a brand new one! Purchased in Lyon from a renowned watchmaker, I wasn't yet a customer. One phone call, one appointment, and after a glass of champagne with friends, I left with this timepiece on my wrist. The watch was available at this excellent authorized dealer. I remember, however, that Submariner fans and owners weren't too fond of this model, this sunburst green. My Rolex-loving friends, as I called them, thought it was ugly. The ceramic crown, the higher-quality bracelet with the adjustable clasp—it was a huge change. At the time, we didn't talk much about vintage, as I mentioned. A used GMT cost roughly half, or even less, than the new price of the green one, 6,700 in 2011. 👌 Shortly after, things went downhill at Rolex; availability was on a waiting list or wish list... So I can't be objective about this watch; it represents a part of my life, like a few others. It's a good watch, easy to wear, reliable, and solid. I had it serviced at Rolex for the first time after ten years, and it's practically brand new again. It's taken quite a beating, though; I used to wear it very often, but now I hardly ever do, for several reasons. Prices have gone crazy, and sometimes I feel self-conscious about the not-always-friendly stares I get when I wear it. When I said it was easy to wear in terms of comfort, I meant it was difficult in many large French cities. It almost went to waste several times over the years, but it always made way for others. And even four years ago, when it was close to 30,000, I would have ended up with this green one!
