Ocean To Orbit, founded in 2020, is a young Australian watch brand created in Melbourne by David DeWitt and Siddhartha Kazami, two automotive designers who share a passion for mechanical watches; it offers Swiss Made timepieces designed to accompany everyday use as well as more demanding adventures, with particular attention given to proportions, legibility and the coherence of every detail.
The founders’ professional background plays a central role in the brand’s identity. David DeWitt and Siddhartha Kazami apply a method inherited from automotive design to watches: first defining the function of the object, studying existing solutions, working on proportions, producing numerous sketches, then refining every surface before developing prototypes. Ocean To Orbit therefore conceives its watches as complete objects in which the case, hands, dial, bracelet and story must serve the same intention.
The Ocean To Orbit name summarizes this ambition. The brand aims to create watches versatile enough to travel from the ocean to space and accompany every situation in between. This expression does not mean that the current models are designed for a real space mission; it instead conveys a search for versatility, resistance and openness to adventure. Every collection must tell an identifiable story without sacrificing comfort or everyday use for the benefit of storytelling alone.
The first collection takes inspiration from watches worn by explorers and mountaineers during the middle of the twentieth century. Its name refers to Lhotse, the fourth-highest mountain in the world, rising to 8,516 meters. Its 316L stainless steel case measures 38.5 millimeters in diameter, with an overall length of forty-seven millimeters and a thickness of approximately 11.5 millimeters. These proportions reflect a desire to create a robust sports watch that remains balanced enough for everyday wear.
The collection uses the Swiss STP 1-21 automatic movement without a date display, offering approximately forty hours of power reserve and operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and stated water resistance to one hundred meters reinforce its role as a versatile watch. The hands make discreet references to space: the hour hand evokes a rocket, the minute hand a booster and the seconds hand a re-entry capsule. The design therefore combines historical inspiration, space references and brand-specific details without turning the dial into a decorative exercise.
The second major collection adopts a more technical approach and is more directly oriented toward the tool-watch category. The case is made from grade 5 titanium and receives a surface-hardening treatment intended to improve resistance to signs of use. The elevated indexes evoke Himalayan topography, while the luminous components and thicker luminous material applied to the hands aim to provide rapid reading in darkness. Function becomes the starting point of the design, from the shape of the case to the integration of the rubber strap.
The development of this collection is supported by real-world testing. A prototype was entrusted to Mingma Gyabu “David” Sherpa during his K2 expedition in July 2025; the ascent was ultimately abandoned because weather conditions, avalanches and rockfalls were considered too dangerous. The brand plans to continue this collaboration in order to refine future models. Ocean To Orbit uses these trials not as absolute proof of indestructibility, but as a source of practical feedback on comfort, legibility and resistance.
Ocean To Orbit combines design carried out in Australia with Swiss Made production. This organization allows it to claim an Australian identity through design and storytelling while using Swiss movements and manufacturing. The brand does not communicate about fully integrated production and should therefore be regarded as a watch-design company working with specialist partners. Its value rests mainly on development coherence, customized components and the care given to visible and ergonomic details.
Distribution combines international direct sales with a presence through selected specialist partners in Australia and the United Kingdom. The first collection is offered around 1,495 Australian dollars on a steel bracelet depending on the version, while the titanium collection sits around 2,495 Australian dollars, with prices potentially varying by country, taxation, currency and strap selection. This positioning places Ocean To Orbit between accessible microbrands and more established Swiss Made tool watches, with a gradual move upmarket driven by materials and specific development.
The intended audience includes enthusiasts of automotive design, expedition watches, young independent brands and pieces able to retain a degree of elegance despite their utilitarian orientation. The first collection will better suit a buyer seeking one versatile everyday watch, while the second will speak to those who prioritize titanium, luminescence and a more technical identity. The purchase should nevertheless take the youth of the brand, the still-limited depth of its catalogue and the future availability of after-sales service into account.
Ocean To Orbit is aimed at enthusiasts who want a contemporary watch designed with a rigorous method, a credible exploration story and genuine attention to proportion. The brand stands out through the automotive experience of its founders, its references to major expeditions and its desire to test its creations in demanding environments. Its first collection prioritizes versatility and sporting elegance, while its titanium proposition adopts a more functional and technical direction. The choice should take weight, material, level of luminescence, strap and desired wrist presence into account.
