A piece of Besançon on your wrist

I wear the Humbert Droz HD9 Deep Pro like you would carry an old photograph: not to show it off, but for what it whispers to me. At 55, I know what I expect from a watch: for it to be personal, readable, and memorable. Personal, because it must reflect my story. Readable, because everyday life demands clarity rather than spectacle. Memorable, because an object only has value if it connects moments and places. This HD9 ticks all three boxes with a simplicity that touches me. I bought it new in Besançon, my hometown, as much by choice as by loyalty. Even though I no longer live there, I like to support the region's watchmaking industry: it's an almost instinctive gesture, like returning to pay homage to a childhood home. When I learned it was a limited edition, I felt a spark. This rarity isn't a vanity argument; it's a reminder: my watch won't be an anonymous silhouette in the crowd. It has its place, its number, its purpose—and I do too. On the wrist, the Deep Pro asserts itself without forcing itself. The dial offers a sharp contrast, the hands trace the time with clarity, and the bezel inspires confidence. Nothing is affected, nothing superfluous: readability takes precedence, and with it that sense of calm one feels when everything is in its place. The case exudes robustness, the strap supports without dominating; the whole thing fades into oblivion until the moment you need it—and then, it delivers. What I love most is the connection this watch creates between my daily life and my roots. Every glance at the dial takes me back to Besançon: the bright facades, the crisp air along the Doubs, memories of the watchmaking workshops. The HD9 doesn't try to reinvent the tool watch; it reaffirms it, cleanly and honestly, with the discretion I readily associate with local watchmaking culture. It doesn't seek effect; it seeks precision. And precision, over time, becomes emotion. My purchasing motives were simple and clear: to honor the region that shaped me, to choose a locally made piece whose production makes sense, and to favor a limited edition to preserve a certain uniqueness in a standardized world. Today, I don't see the Deep Pro as just another possession, but as a landmark: an object that bears witness, that accompanies, that reminds us of where we come from while moving forward. In my eyes, this is exactly what a watch should do. Thank you for reading 🙏
