Born in the city where airplanes are built more than dreams, Dédale doesn't bother with superfluous storytelling. In Toulouse, its founder, Bastian, traded aircraft maintenance tools for precision micromechanics, without ever denying his hands-on culture. With the Waypoint, he seeks not to seduce with its image, but to convince through its use. This watch promises nothing more than what it delivers: readability, consistency, and reliability. A tool watch with a precise design and a confident technical language, designed not to be talked about, but to serve, last, and accompany. Behind the brand is Bastian. An aircraft mechanic and private pilot since 2017, he combines technical rigor with a passion for flight. With Daedalus, he borrows the name of humanity's oldest dream—that of flight—while inverting its myth: where Daedalus evokes the labyrinth, he traces a straight line, without detours. And on this path, time doesn't flow: it is piloted. ▶️ A compact case, designed for flight With its 39 mm diameter, the Waypoint stands out for its contained format, countering the historical standards of often imposing pilot's watches. A deliberate choice, combining portability and functionality. The simple and legible black bezel visually tightens the dial, while the minute track enhances readability. The overall effect offers a strong presence despite a reasonable thickness of 14.2 mm, including the crystal—in the lower average for an automatic chronograph. ▶️ A legible, structured, and rigorously finished dial The Waypoint's dial exudes understated sophistication. The hour markers are polished, capturing the light with precision, while the dial's grooves add a technical and elegant texture. Particular attention has been paid to the sub-dial hands, which are treated with a luminescent material at their tips—a rarely seen detail that demonstrates the brand's commitment to optimal readability, even in night-time flying conditions. Because this Waypoint isn't a tribute watch: it's a tool, designed for action. ▶️ A reliable, logical, and consistent engine At the heart of the Waypoint is no 2,000 hp Pratt & Whitney radial engine like the one in the famous Corsair aircraft of the "Têtes Brulées" (Chance Vought F4U), but a proven Japanese engine: the Seiko TMI NE86 caliber. This automatic chronograph boasts solid accuracy, in the order of -7/+7 seconds per day. This choice is fully embraced by the brand, keen to offer a reliable, precise product with few after-sales service returns. As in aviation, it's robustness that counts, not overkill. A decision in line with Bastian's price positioning and mechanical philosophy. ▶️ A signature bracelet, to make a difference The steel bracelet is probably one of the most remarkable elements of this Dédale. It combines a subtle alternation of brushed links and mirror-polished chamfers, for an original, sophisticated, and technical look. A discreet micro-adjustment is integrated into the folding clasp, further proof of the attention paid to everyday use. Each finish, each articulation, contributes to the watch's visual identity—a strong signature in a segment often standardized on leather straps only. ▶️ A watch designed by a cockpit enthusiast Bastian didn't set out to be a watchmaker. His background in aircraft maintenance, his experience as a private pilot, his taste for instrumental watchmaking from the 1940s and 1950s: all converge in this Waypoint. This is not a lounge watch, but an instrument designed to be used, understood, and experienced. Its vision is clear, its message precise, and its project sincere. Far from vague concepts, Dédale ticks all the boxes to appeal to those who still dream of flying, without ever losing touch with reality. With this first creation, Dédale is charting its course in the watchmaking landscape with seriousness and humility. A proposition that stands out for its consistency, its function, and its unashamedly adventurous spirit. One thing is certain: the heading is set. ▶️ Offered through crowdfunding at €1,220 for the first 40 contributors, this Dédale Waypoint embodies a precise, legible, and well-constructed stylistic exercise. The chronograph's fluted pusher recalls a combustion engine piston, while the tip of the leather strap discreetly features the brand's stitched logo. Nothing is left to chance, and watchmaking here rediscovers its primary function, the one I appreciate most in a watch: to offer meaning, rigor, and an emotion anchored in our lives. The Dédale Waypoint is available in a limited edition of 150 numbered pieces for three distinct references: Alfa Zulu, November, and Papa. A fourth version, called Sidus, with a meteorite dial, will be limited to only 30 pieces and will also be available during the Kickstarter campaign. Delivery is scheduled for December 2025. With this project, Bastian follows in the footsteps of great pragmatic dreamers. He echoes the words of Pierre-Georges Latécoère: "I've redone all the calculations, and they confirm the experts' opinion: our idea is unfeasible. There's only one thing left to do: make it happen." » It's now up to aeronautical watch enthusiasts to take this idea even further by supporting the Kickstarter campaign before May 25, 2025. My "Mood Board" with this Waypoint: TV Series: Flying Misfits (1976-1978) Music: Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz (1998) Airplane: Corsair Chance Vought F4U All the technical specifications are below, on the brand's website and on Kickstarter during the campaign.
