The guys at Citizen are truly exceptional. They manage to offer a diver's watch at an extremely competitive price, while ticking absolutely all the boxes one would expect from a true tool watch. Features include: • titanium case, and even Super Titanium at Citizen, • domed sapphire crystal, • automatic movement, • very high-quality rubber strap with an extension suitable for wetsuits, • Promaster-branded crown, • superbly crafted dial with embossed patterns and a truly original design. Honestly, I don't know how they do it, but the result is undeniable: it's top-notch work. A Japanese-style finish: Where Citizen truly impresses is in the level of craftsmanship. This almost obsessive attention to detail, so typically Japanese, is evident: • clean, well-defined edges, • perfectly executed brushed case, • flawless bracelet integration, • crown with particularly successful treatment and presentation. Everything exudes coherence and industrial mastery. In short: serious, thoughtful work, without unnecessary frills. In the field: a true tool watch Having established this, the essential question remains: does this watch do the job? The answer is simple: yes, undeniably. Aesthetically, it exudes a genuine aura of a military tool watch. The grade 2 titanium, combined with Citizen's specific treatment, offers a slightly darker hue than the grade 5 titanium found, for example, in Panerai watches. Citizen claims above-standard hardness, and frankly… it's astounding. The scratch resistance is simply incredible in everyday use. Inside, Citizen has opted for the Miyota 9051 automatic caliber, a movement from the Citizen Group's Series 9, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Reliable and precise, it features a hacking seconds function and manual winding, and has established itself as a highly credible alternative to the ETA 2824 for powering a true tool watch like the Promaster. The details that make the difference: There are also these small details that really make a difference: • the Citizen logo with Super-LumiNova applied to the buckle, • the discreet Promaster logo on the crown, • exemplary legibility, a hallmark of the range. The hands, as with the entire Promaster line, are ultra-legible, with special mention going to the orange minute hand and seconds hand, a deliberate nod to the legendary Promaster JP2008 “Jean Reno”. A watch that exudes something: The overall impression is frankly fantastic: a rugged, visually imposing watch, yet surprisingly light, with a real presence on the wrist. Does it evoke emotion? Yes—and that's not so common for a watch in this category. It has something special, a strong personality. This is actually the second Citizen diver to join my collection, and I've noticed that both exude a very strong aesthetic force: use shapes design. Conclusion The very essence of this watch is clear: to be a pure diver, water-resistant to 200 meters, legible, reliable, and reassuring. Underwater, you feel confident; reading the time is immediate and effortless. It's not a city watch, much less a formal one. But it's an extraordinary tool watch, anti-magnetic, robust, designed for action, and will naturally find its place in any serious collection of dive watches. A Citizen Promaster just the way we like them: efficient, honest, and remarkably well-designed.
