The Addiesdive SD1970 Blue: A Well-Made Tribute

It's true, another tribute watch. Yet the quality is there, with no real weak points. The ridiculously low price seems paradoxical given such meticulous execution. The blue Addiesdive SD1970, affectionately nicknamed the "Blue Turtle," is an automatic diver's watch that pays homage to the iconic Seiko 6105, popularized by Martin Sheen in the film "Apocalypse Now." Here's a detailed description of this model: Aesthetics and Case: Case Shape: It features the characteristic "cushion" or "turtle" shape of the Seiko 6105, with short, sloping lugs that ensure excellent wrist comfort despite its size. Case Material: 316L stainless steel, offering strength and corrosion resistance. The finishes alternate between brushed on the top and polished on the sides, adding a touch of elegance. Case Diameter: 43.8 mm (excluding the crown), which gives it a noticeable presence on the wrist without being excessively large thanks to the case shape and the short lug-to-lug distance (46.8 mm). Case Thickness: 13.5 mm. Bezel: Unidirectional with 120 clicks, with a blue ceramic insert. It features luminous markers (often BGW9 for blue luminescence) for optimal readability in low-light conditions. The bezel offers good grip. Crown: Screw-down and protected by shoulders, contributing to the watch's water resistance. It is signed with the Steeldive/Addiesdive logo. Case Back: Screw-down, 316L stainless steel, sometimes with polished and brushed finishes. Dial and Hands: Dial Color: A blue often described as a "sunburst," creating beautiful light reflections. Its intensity can vary depending on the lighting. Indexes: Applied, in various shapes (round, rectangular) with a generous application of luminous material (often Swiss C3 Super-LumiNova for green luminescence). Hands: Diver-style, with a stubby hour hand and a sword-shaped minute hand. The second hand features a lollipop (luminous circle). The hands are filled with luminous material for excellent nighttime visibility. Date Window: Positioned at 3 o'clock, sometimes with a white border. Markings: The dial displays the brand logo (Steeldive or Addiesdive), the word "Automatic," and the water resistance indicator (200m or 20 ATM). Movement: Movement Type: Automatic, the Seiko NH35A, a reliable and robust movement with 24 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. It is hand-wound and features a stop-seconds (hacking) function. Bracelet: Material: Several options are available, including a three-link stainless steel bracelet (with a milled buckle and micro-adjustments on V2 versions), a rubber waffle strap, or other types of rubber or canvas straps. The quality of the steel bracelet can vary and is sometimes considered the weak point of the watch by some users. Lug Width: 20 mm, offering a wide variety of compatible strap options. Other Features: Crystal: Sapphire with anti-reflective (AR) coating, providing excellent scratch resistance and good readability. Water resistance: 200 meters (20 ATM), making it suitable for diving and other water sports. Luminescence: Very good thanks to the use of Super-LumiNova on the indexes, hands, and bezel, ensuring long-lasting visibility in the dark. In summary, the Addiesdive SD1970 Blue is an attractive and affordable automatic diver's watch that offers excellent value for money. It impresses with its design inspired by a watchmaking icon, its robustness, reliable movement, and competent diving characteristics. The blue color of its sunburst dial and ceramic bezel give it a distinctive and popular marine aesthetic.
