It reproduces trait for trait the visual and the proportions of the legendary 7922 of 1954 (hence the name BB54). But with all the advantages of a modern one that can be worn daily without stress. The case is very thin as often pointed out, but it is also very flat with long horns and it is really great. The slightly domed dial is very qualitative. The whole is super refined. Water-resistant to 200m, 70h of RDM thanks to the in-house caliber. What more could you ask for...

Vintage atmosphere and the advantages of modern.

Superb BB54 just hung on my feverish wrist. This watch represents for me the comfort of vintage with today's reliability. This 54 version erases all the details that had pushed me to part with my 58 (the golden numbers on the bezel, the red triangle, the too large lug space)... a Bondian diver! It didn't spend two hours in my AD's display case. The T Fit adjustment of the bracelet is a treat and a real plus. Tudor even replaced the second snowflake with a lollipop like on the original Oyster Prince... Only good things.

The Black Bay 54 is the most representative example of the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. The 37 mm case retains the same proportions as before, while benefiting from the TUDOR Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m, technical feats.

HISTORICAL PROPORTIONS AND TECHNICAL PROWESS

The Black Bay 54 model is the model closest, aesthetically speaking, to the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. Offered with a 37 mm case, it retains the general proportions of its source of inspiration while being equipped with the high-performance Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m. A characteristic element and faithful to the aesthetics of the period, the unidirectional bezel does not have a minute graduation. However, the aesthetic details do not stop at the dimensions of the case and the bezel. The seconds hand, with its round luminous disc, evokes the appearance of the hand of the original model. The ergonomics have also evolved with a redesigned crown and bezel, but which nevertheless retain the historical spirit.

A DIVE INTO THE PAST

The spirit of Black Bay is part of the history of the brand. The Black Bay line has always highlighted iconic elements of old TUDOR diver’s watches, but the Black Bay 54 is perhaps the closest model to a specific historical piece created to date. The Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, one of the first modern diver’s watches, is a great source of inspiration since it is known to have been evaluated and then adopted by the French and American Navies as well as widely used by the pioneers of professional diving. The first versions of the reference 7922 featured a “small crown”, but not yet the red triangle at 12 o’clock, which would later become one of the brand’s signatures. These details gave it a refined and understated aesthetic. The Black Bay 54 is faithful to its model and takes up a large number of distinctive details. The minute hand, for example, in addition to adjusted proportions, is beveled at its base, as on the 1954 model. The second hand is as close as can be to the original. The profile of the bezel ring is also faithful to that of the reference 7922, as are the markings on its aluminum insert. The Black Bay 54 also features resolutely modern touches, such as a satin-sun dial and a “T-fit” clasp for a perfect fit and, of course, the Manufacture Caliber MT5400, a concentrate of high-performance watchmaking technology.

BLACK BAY 54 DIVING INTO THE PAST

As soon as its official release was announced, it took me only one day to call the AD and reserve one! It is exactly what I expected from Tudor: a slim, ultra-comfortable diver with a vintage style. The BB54 ticks all the boxes, being nothing more and nothing less than a "reissue" of the famous Oyster Prince Submariner 7922.

I prefer it to the BB58 (which I had): it is much more comfortable, its dial has more sparkle, it has no "gilt" on the bezel, and the bracelet with the "T-Fit" system is a real plus.

Although it displays 37 mm on paper, this is actually misleading, because its case is almost the same size as that of the BB58. With a lug-to-lug length of 46.5 mm, it is certainly not a small watch.

On the wrist, it is an absolute comfort, and it has a very classy side. A perfect watch for everyday wear.

Tudor continues to produce great watches!

The Vintage / Modern Diver

Where to begin, given how different this watch is from others, particularly its sister, the black Black Bay 54. Where the latter emphasizes discretion, robustness, and functionality, the Blue Lagoon takes a completely different direction.

With its Jubilee bracelet, polished bezel, and subtly textured dial, this version presents itself as a timepiece that is at once elegant, luminous, and invigorating. A watch that literally seems to evolve with its surroundings, as its reflections and nuances vary according to the light. Capturing the essence of this timepiece is a challenge: even the most beautiful photos struggle to do it justice.

Acquiring this watch was, for me, one of my best watchmaking choices. From the moment I opened the case, I felt that special emotion, the one that sends shivers down your spine, the one that reminds you why you fell in love with watchmaking in the first place.
