Spinnaker Spence aka 5510

I’ve owned and own quite a few Spinnaker models over time, but– the Spinnaker Spence is easily one of my favourites. And here’s why : It`s the Specs ! Case & Dimensions Diameter: 40 mm Thickness: 11.5 mm Lug-to-lug: 48 mm Those numbers just work – especially on a 17 cm wrist. The proportions are spot on: compact, balanced, and comfortable. So this watch is a great match, even with a 40mm diameter it feels on a 17cm wrist like a 38mm but still has the right presence ! Comfort & Clasp On the wrist, the Spence feels great. The clasp is solid and well made. Especially it feels more premium than the standard clasps. That makes it perfect for everyday wear. And if you want a bit of variety, swapping to a rubber strap is super easy because of the quick release. Movement & Specs The reason this watch stays so slim is the Miyota 9039 movement – much thinner than the more common Seiko NH35, and you can feel the difference immediately. You also get: 300 m water resistance Sapphire crystal Screw-down crown In this price range the specs are really good and th4 casebuild is very well for this price range - especially the bracelet stands out in comparison to other models ( even Spinnaker models). Dial & Design My model is the Blue/Gun Metal one with green Lume. I actually prefer blue lume but most brands are using green lume. Would be interesting to know why - is it cheaper ?! Design-wise, it clearly takes inspiration from classics like the Rolex Submariner 5510 and Tudor Black Bay. It’s a vintage-inspired diver with modern build quality, and I really like that mix. Criticisms I think it`s also important to always point out the negative aspects. But here they are really difficult to find. Good diameter(s)! Good movement ! Good Casebuild.. But, yes if we want to name something potentially negative we can point out the indices on the dial. While the Dial has a super sunburst the indices are simply printed on. So it`s nothing special Not much to complain about here. And - Alumunium bezel. It sure makes totally sense in the context of the Vintage vibed design but ceramic for me is always better. But honestly, those are minor details rather than real downsides. Value for Money At around €400–€500 (roughly $500), the Spence offers a lot of watch for the money. The design, build, and specs all come together nicely. It’s a well-rounded package that feels more expensive than it is. Conclusion The Spinnaker Spence is a watch that works on almost any wrist. It wears beautifully, looks great, and offers solid specs for the price. If you like a classic, vintage-inspired diver with modern features, this one’s definitely worth a look. For me, it’s without question one of the best Spinnakers you can get right now.
