An extraordinary automatic watch made from a meteorite, the announcement promised. The first micro-brand watches always have a particular flavor. They don't yet have an established name, they have no experience (neither in design, nor in manufacturing, nor in after-sales service), we don't know if there will ever be a second watch, we don't even know if the project for the first watch will be carried through to completion, we don't know if behind the project lurks some dreamer who will confront industrial reality, or some con artist taking advantage of the crazy naiveté of watch enthusiasts... And despite these risks, there is a freshness, a mad thirst for the Ideal. An established brand watch is simply a business to keep the economic machine running, a brand watch in development is the dream come true of someone who has proven something to themselves and to others. Selten is a European word that conveys a notion of rarity and exclusivity for a Hong Kong brand. In short, I don't really like it. We'll have to see what happens next, but it looks like cultural appropriation marketing, like Thomas Earnshaw or Louis Cottier. But really, why not? It offers a day/night complication. Some might argue that it's generally completely useless because we know whether it's one o'clock in the morning or one in the afternoon based on the brightness of the sky. Of course, the sky isn't on the dial, and it's above all a poetic and well-thought-out representation. With a piece of meteorite, there's the sun of light and the sun of darkness. Usually, day/night indicators represent a sun and a waxing crescent moon, which is stupid, given that the afternoon crescent appears in broad daylight, not in the middle of the night. The representation chosen here, whether it's the full moon, is more accurate because it only appears at sunset, or the concept of a black sun for the absence of the daylight star and therefore of night. The straps provided by Has No Bound are high-quality and very pleasant, and the stylized triangular oscillating weight is quite successful. What I regret about the watch is the readability; depending on the angle, the blued hands don't stand out well. So sometimes the minute hand doesn't stand out well, and you have to look for the right angle and light to see where you are in the minutes section (and generally, when you glance at your watch, it's to read the minutes). The soundtrack of this watch would be more like a Ramstein song, given this deliberately German name from who knows where, this meteorite that comes from nowhere, from the far reaches of the solar system, and which falls precisely on a German name, Selten. These Breguet hands that bring solemnity, this circular brushed case that gives an impression of infinity, these raised baton indexes that give the impression of being fixed points of the boundaries that we inexorably exceed, this meteorite dial that rushed into space between the planets then for a million years rested on a hill in Scandinavia. "Zeit" by Ramstein is quite appropriate, we would like time to stop when the moment is perfect but the second hand continues its course. This silver second hand so visible while the minute hand is blued and must be found on the dial. "The moment is so perfect/ Then it runs further into time/ Eye view, even more so/ I'm not there yet" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbHGS_bVkXY an album about the madness of men recorded during COVID in Saint Rémy de Provence, Van Gogh's place of stay after his ear was cut off. One of the sources of inspiration being Donald Trump, the album remains relevant; and so does the watch. Adjectives: spatial, celestial, offbeat, exclusive, affordable, democratic, nonconformist, neat, original, Chinese
