Not being a collector but rather a watch enthusiast, I was captivated by tool/sports watches, those capable of handling any situation. If I could only have one, would this be it? At first, I was drawn in by the cinematic presentation of a not-so-secret agent! I've owned several dive watches, all monochrome, with round indices and a black bezel… Always harboring this desire to own a Submariner, nothing original, admittedly, but it suits me. The stars aligned this year, and I was able to acquire the coveted model, because hunting for a Rolex is a true pleasure. A 14060M D series without a date, sold in 2006, practically NOS (New Old Stock), full set, and serviced by a professional. I didn't want any new references: too big a case, too shiny ceramic, an engraved bezel… too flashy and lacking patina in the long run. Did it satisfy me? The current answer is yes. I hardly have any watches saved on C24 anymore. I still look at other watches, but the desire to make a deliberate purchase is gone; this one ticks all the boxes. Lightweight, comfortable, and quite discreet, especially with a bracelet other than steel, even with short sleeves. It could be my everyday watch, but there are always situations where you hesitate to wear a Rolex… Compared to the recent watches I've owned previously, my only complaint is its rather short power reserve. I was used to watches that lasted all weekend; this one stops after two days of rest. It's strange at first, but that was the norm 20 years ago.
