Make way for the king

I take my time for about two years to mature a major purchase and carefully select a model that suits me. It's [once again] about being able to take advantage of an in-house purchase [with a discount]. I ask myself a thousand and one questions. Another Dayto, in more precious materials? Yes, but no, too much of a duplication. A Sub, but without the date? Yes, but no, too familiar, and not really my style. Exit the GMT-Master, they don't suit me. Air-King, Explorer 1, Oyster Perp? No, either because the old ones are better, or they don't have the numerals. 1908? Yes, but... maybe later. A Day-Date? Well yes, definitely, but out of my budget. So a great classic, the DateJust? Yes, but no. It either has something missing (a Cyclops, or even a date), or something missing (I don't want a simple three-hand + date). Ultimately, I know I'm looking for a model with pure Rolex characteristics, easily recognizable from afar, but I need something extra. This extra is available on the Sky-Dweller: the month display on the 12 indexes. A real highlight of ingenuity for this movement with an annual calendar. All that remains is a difficult choice: between a basic steel model or upgrading to a more premium version by adding gold. What's certain is that there will be the fluted bezel and the Jubilee bracelet, to discover other styles. Ultimately, this choice of Rolex suits me perfectly. When it arrives, opening the box gives me a double impression: the watch is great, but it's the wrong bracelet (Oyster). It must have been an error in the order transmission between the different people. In short, I avoid touching the watch and see if I can get the strap changed. I reordered it, waited a few weeks, and finally here's the real thing with its Jubilee strap. As bright as the sun! For the moment, I rarely wear it. I still enjoy keeping it in mint condition. I love the date change, which is really done with a click (without shifting the date in the aperture during the preceding minutes). The little red square for the month, very discreet, but so essential and original (even if other brands like Omega or H. Moser do it too). There's a small flaw with the month of March, where the cyclops takes up a little too much space. In any case, I can confirm that there's only one adjustment per year: on March 1st. The GMT side, with the time zone change by shifting (by notch) the hour hand, is really well thought out. The small central disc always indicates the reference time, and the hands can be shifted to local time. I don't use this feature, but I like knowing it's there. The time and date adjustment with the crown and rotating bezel is well thought out. I enjoy adjusting it so I can set it later. Its 14.1mm thickness is quite substantial (but acceptable considering the number of complications in this model). The bracelet is almost thin, but the clasp is substantial and balances the whole thing well. If you want to be seen from afar, this is an ideal model. Only those who dig deeper will notice that it has a little something extra.
