The gold and steel Cartier Santos that I acquired has a much deeper meaning than a simple timepiece. It is a watch that I chose at a particular moment in my life, following the death of my mother. My heritage

I didn’t expect to leave with a Rolex that day. Initially, my visit to my AD was motivated by the desire to try on a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Geographic and Calendar. But in store, this Datejust 41 in Everose Rolesor and Sunburst dial immediately captivated me. Once on my wrist, the charm worked instantly: perfect balance, optimal comfort and an elegance that knows how to remain discreet while asserting its character.

This model embodies the very essence of the versatile watch: at ease with a suit or casual outfit, with impeccable readability and exemplary finishing. The Jubilee bracelet adds a touch of refinement and unmatched comfort, while the fluted Everose gold bezel catches the light in a captivating way.

This acquisition has a special flavor: purchased on Valentine’s Day to celebrate the excellent financial results of my company, it is much more than just a timepiece. After acquiring my Rolex Datejust 41 in February, I naturally put myself on the waiting list for a Submariner. During this exchange, my sales advisor had suggested, given my seniority and our relationship of trust, that I could expect availability before the summer. Since I wasn't in a hurry—I had also acquired a TAG Heuer Monaco in the meantime—I confirmed that I could wait, even beyond the summer. However, after some thought, I called her back around noon to confirm that I would gladly take the watch as soon as it was available. And then, surprise: three hours later, my AD called me back to tell me that the Submariner had just arrived! As it turns out, yes, it is still possible to find a Rolex Submariner in a boutique… in just three hours, with a little loyalty, patience, and a good relationship with your advisor.

After more than three years of endless waiting on a list for another model, fate offered me an unexpected alternative. In just a few hours, I jumped at the chance and acquired my first vintage Rolex, a 2001 model, which literally grabbed me when I saw it in the vintage display case of my AD. A timeless icon that, beyond its elegance and history, marks a turning point in my watch collection.

This spontaneous love at first sight, after so much patience, makes this acquisition even more delicious. Every detail, from the patinated case to the bracelet that has already spanned more than twenty years of history, reminds me why Rolex is a legend. I hope it will be the first of a long series, and that it will open the door to other equally fascinating pieces.

The first Rolex

More than 10 years ago, I hesitated for a long time between the TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 and my Breitling Seawolf Avenger. I opted for the robustness of the Breitling, but every time I saw the Monaco in a shop window, a pang in my heart reminded me of this undecided choice. Today, I finally treated myself to this iconic piece, recognizable among all by its square case and crown on the left, faithful heir to the spirit of Steve McQueen. Worn on the wrist, it imposes its personality and evokes what I have always loved in watchmaking: character, audacity and a touch of unashamed nostalgia. It is a gentle revenge on time and a beautiful way to reconcile passion and reason

After more than 10 years of waiting

This Cupillard Riem, a manufacturer founded in 1959 in Franche-Comté, branded Incabloc Automatic, embodies a page of French watchmaking history (Richard Mille was said to have been sales director there in the 1980s). Worn by my father until his death in 2003, it returned to me in 2023. After twenty years of silence, a simple movement woke it up. Overhauled, it works like the first day. A precious family heirloom, it is now part of my collection, ready to resume its service.

When vintage takes on a heritage character

The Rolex brand was created in 1905 in London by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis. A legendary watch from Rolex as well as from the world of watchmaking, this new version of the GMT MASTER II called Batgirl brings a slight touch of exoticism with the blue of the hand and the bezel while remaining much more discreet than the Pepsi or Sprite version. To be moderated however, because although wiser than the other two references, it inevitably attracts benevolent glances or not ... 

Indeed, with the multiplication of aggression problems, it can be difficult to wear depending on its geographical location. 
It is all the more unfortunate that the Jubilee bracelet ensures great comfort to the point of almost forgetting that you have the watch on your wrist. 
Still concerning the bracelet, the Easylink adjustment system is also well thought out and allows you to adjust the watch on the fly in summer. 

In short, it is a perfect Rolex to be worn both casually and sporty chic but you have to be aware that it is a source of covetousness for both enthusiasts and thieves.

The wisest of the GMT MASTER II

Perfect size and bracelet for my small wrist. The dialog between the black, the grey and the gold works beautifully. Perfect step before the full gold version that is too dressy for my taste. It's my daily watch now, and I can't wear anything else. I am always with t-shirt and jeans and this absolutely elegant watch works perfectly with my sporty style. I got it at the airport, the place in which I had many traumas as a child due to immigration and exile. Getting this watch is for me the sign of a new area of my life.

My favorite Rolex watch: the GMT Master II. I waited three years for it, and I finally bought it in Geneva, five years to the day after my Hublot—almost to the date. At the time, the wait had somewhat dampened the flavor… but as soon as it was on my wrist, the pleasure returned. A gem. The Jubilee bracelet is absolutely comfortable, the finish is perfect. Nothing to complain about.

Three years for this… and it was worth it

The one that started it all. My first watch, the one I bought myself at 33 and wore for 10 years without stopping, in all circumstances, without any desire to replace it. The one that would remain if I had to keep only one. The aviator, the Pan Am legend since 1954. The most precise of all. And those blue and red bezel colors that change over the years and that I will never tire of. I have always preferred Pepsi to Coke!

Rolex GMT MASTER II ref 16710 - 

The Rolex GMT-Master II reference 116710 LN was introduced in 2007, this model features a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel, a 40mm stainless steel case, a date function, as well as the iconic ability to track multiple time zones.
