The imaginary journey

Soundtrack: Elysium: The Journey of Space https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=CfxUm2Cs968 (French translation: https://desk-russie.eu/2021/05/12/alexei-navalny-journal-de-prison.html ) This 1960s model is sometimes called "the first Copernicus," but this is a far-fetched term. Indeed, the 2017 reissue of the Copernicus merges this 1960s model with the 1980s model—the real Copernicus, with circular hands—hence the anachronistic association of the name. However, the space theme of the watch is justified by its long spokes, which evoke the cockpit of Captain Flam or Hans Solo. This is why it reminds me of the title of Elysium, about space travel, which, as is often the case in science fiction, deals with the problems of our time and not of a future era. The story of space exploration allows us to escape from a contemporary reality that is nothing more than a return to inhumane, barbaric customs. The case is 34 mm in diameter and 9.5 mm thick, made of chrome-plated brass, with a clip-on caseback, and a 16-jewel 2609 movement known as the "Baltika." The watch is equipped with original dauphine hands, but they have been replaced with very thin filigree hands, which suits it well. This emphasizes the appearance of the rays of light that seem to pass through the dial like the cockpit of a spaceship, although it's true that the time is less legible. In essence, this dial is very simple, almost classical, but the idea of the off-center circle is formidable and constitutes a true window onto the imagination.
