This sugess (belongs to seagull) carries with it a lot of complications for a mini price. It is sure that it is not very fine, nor very well finished but it allows to have a poetic moon phase. The dial is quite readable despite all the information present. The "blued" hands look very artificial and are the only really low-end elements at first glance.

I didn't see myself wearing a gold world but the rose gold of this Certina convinced me otherwise. Its small second and the beginning of a Bambi patina finished convincing me. The transition to a midnight blue bracelet suits it perfectly. The indexes are just the index at 6 o'clock is the only negative note on the piece for me.

An ideal watch for summer or to bring some sun in the middle of winter. The yellow dial is bright no matter the lighting. The integrated bracelet fits well with the case. The finishes could be a bit better, but for mass-produced watches it's okay. The crown is not easy to operate and I would have liked a version without a date or at least without a cyclops.

Pretty vintage that attracted me by its patinated dial that goes towards purple and by the sunburst of the case. The shape of the case also changes with its slightly barrel shape. This 651147 night model is one of the most successful dress watches from the 1960s and 70s, equipped with the 2609-a Baltika movement with 21 jewels. The faceted gold color code of the numerals and indexes on a black background creates a classy atmosphere while keeping the brutal side of the baton hands and vertical facets. The 651 type chrome-plated brass case adds a bit of simplicity. It must be said that my copy is less flamboyant than it must have been when new, the patina of time has taken place. In addition, the second hand does not seem to be original, the original hand is simpler like those of the minutes and hours. The case has a contained diameter of 34mm without the crown for a little less than 10mm thick. The watch is called "export" because Raketa and the number of jewels is written in English as well as the made in USSR at the bottom of the dial under the graduation. But that doesn't mean it was exported, as a lot of exported products were sold in the country through the domestic export circuit.
The soundtrack associated with this watch could be quite diverse depending on the associations one may have, but it reminds me of Jamala's song 1944. Because the numbers 12-3-6-9 stand out with a faceted metallic appearance against a dark dial. Certainly, this is the most common combination of numbers in watchmaking; dividing the half-day in four, the hour in four, is the most logical thing to do, but here the graphic code really makes me think that these numbers say "1944." The depth of the night

A city of contrasts whose name simultaneously inspires dreams and fear. A window on Europe, canals fronting Italian architecture, a cultural capital and simultaneously a bastion of serfdom and imperialism, or more recently, the breeding ground for criminal organizations that are shaking the planet. This is what the name Saint Petersburg evokes, after having been Petrograd and Leningrad.

The Raketa 51 case is a very practical classic. Large (39 mm without the crown and 41 mm from lug to lug), it leaves plenty of room for a dial that can be personalized in abundance. Legibility is very poor due to the small black hands on a colored background, but on this model, it's more the personalization that should stand out than the time, here the Petersburg coat of arms. Time is secondary; if readability is your primary concern, you should consider the Big Zero, which is equipped with the same movement and case but has a white background and large hands. The Roman numerals are in keeping with this trend; since readability is already mediocre, it's best to go all grandiloquent. The case is made of chrome-plated brass with a clip-on steel back and houses a very classic 2609-NA movement, notably found in the Big Zero.
We understand this is a watch worn to daydream about the northern capital or for any other reason, such as an excuse to be late (sorry, I misread the time, and anyone can make a mistake on such an illegible dial).

Anti-magnetic watches, meaning those protected against magnetic fields and that are not likely to go out of adjustment depending on the fields to which they are exposed, are very useful in the contemporary world. Designers love to add magnets everywhere in our daily lives; there is a veritable profusion of magnetic fields that we live with and that are harmful to mechanical watches. Anti-magnetic watches, whether modern or vintage, are always my favorite.
The 2610 movement is anti-magnetic, derived from the 2609HA. It was housed under a special alloy dial and in an anti-magnetic case made of special EIA steel or a steel/nickel alloy.

The dial is incredibly pitted, to the point where it's hard to tell what color it is: a sort of leopard print somewhere between navy blue and burgundy. The choice to only represent the 12 in Arabic numerals and to use large two-tone indexes with matching two-tone baton hands is above all a choice of readability. Indicating the 12 o'clock position on the dial is enough to understand the principle; we are on a classic twelve-hour dial. But beyond the simple information, the 12 sits above the 11 indexes like a conductor who punctuates the division of time. It is the one that remains when all the others are massacred, this watch resists magnetic attacks and the twelve is the number that resists alone. How did it survive? Maybe because its one looks like I and two is confused with a Z, maybe because it is not so visible, maybe because it is indispensable, maybe by mistake or even by destiny. How can we know, there may not even be a reason? In short, you'll have understood that aesthetically this dial is badly damaged, the case is scratched, but it works well. This doesn't make the watch less interesting; on the contrary, it seems to tell a story. And ultimately, that's what we're looking for when wearing a vintage watch: that it tells the time fairly reliably and, above all, that it tells a story.

If there is one drawback to wearing a mechanical watch, it is that it is sensitive to magnetic fields; if the hairspring becomes magnetized, it will lose precision. Magnetic fields are invisible, but very common. We don't think about it, but all these magnets for closing or easy storage are omnipresent in the office or at home. If they come into contact with the watch, it must be demagnetized. The alternative is to wear a quartz watch, or an anti-magnetic watch, which is not sensitive and keeps its independent beat no matter what. This Raketa 2610 is precisely protected by an antimagnetic casing and a special 2610 caliber. This one has a clear guilloche dial, a massive railroad, a robust 6 and 12, and clearly visible hands. The result is a great readability and apparent simplicity despite a very worked dial. The case is dedicated to anti-magnetics but still made of chromed brass, it is two discs and a ring of anti-magnetic materials housed inside that ensure resistance to the fields and not the case itself.

Undisturbed by evil magnetic forces


Watches are generally designed to work even if they are damaged by a shock (anti-shock device or even G-shock), or if the ambient conditions deteriorate (luminescent paint to go down deep, away from the sun's rays), but they do not anticipate that the owner's abilities will diminish. Now whether it is the Raketa Big Zero or this tactile watch, they anticipate the case where the owner's eyesight deteriorates significantly, or even disappears completely.

This watch, the Raketa Braille, or Raketa for the blind, therefore has a glass that can be opened, like a washing machine by pressing the button on the crown and tactile indexes, 12,3,6 and 9 being doubled indexes to help you find your way around. There are, however, numbers and a railroad in black on a cream background, for the sighted.
