Hello to all Dialicious enthusiasts! I'm finally taking the time to share my thoughts on a watch that's been with me for a few months now: the new Omega Speedmaster First Omega in Space (reference 310.30.40.50.06.001). Purchased new in February of this year, it's had time to settle comfortably on my wrist, and the least I can say is that the magic is still there. The first thing that strikes you about this model is, of course, the gray-blue CVD dial. Depending on the light, it shifts from a very technical gray to deep blue reflections. Combined with the Alpha hands and the applied logo, the inspiration from Wally Schirra's original CK 2998 is clear, but with decidedly contemporary finishes. The stepped dial adds incredible depth to the overall design. At 39.7 mm (often rounded to 40 mm), the symmetrical case with straight lugs is an absolute delight. In my opinion, it's the perfect size. It sits naturally on the wrist, slips effortlessly under a shirt cuff for workdays, while maintaining the strong sporty presence essential to a Speedmaster. Inside, Omega has integrated the renowned Master Chronometer caliber 3861. The pleasure of manual winding remains (a morning ritual I never tire of), but now also benefits from METAS certification, a Co-Axial escapement, and formidable anti-magnetic resistance. It's the perfect marriage of vintage charm and the reliability one expects from a modern timepiece. The redesigned flat-link bracelet is incredibly comfortable and greatly enhances the watch's neo-vintage look. The sapphire crystal, with its box-like shape, faithfully reproduces the warmth of the hesalite while offering peace of mind against scratches. It's a very appealing piece. It doesn't try to replace the classic Moonwatch, but offers a dressier, slightly more compact, and undeniably charming alternative. After six months of regular wear, it's flawless in my opinion.
