I became passionate about watches 10 years ago, and over time I learned about different brands. One particular German brand, Nomos, has a style quite different from Swiss and Japanese brands, with a very simple, minimalist, and discreet Bauhaus style—not flashy at all.

And above all, it goes with any style of outfit.

This is one of my Fields Watches that I wear the most. Its deep blue dial is mesmerizing, and the Arabic numerals are white. This watch is a real gem, with its sporty-chic style and blue NATO strap giving it a killer look. It's a watch that can be worn both casually and dressed up. I chose this Herbelin Square for its sporty-chic style, its blue dial, and its high-quality rubber strap, which comes with a 10-year guarantee. Patek Philippe drew inspiration from the Square for the Cubitus, which helped revive the Square model.
I opted for the quartz version of the Square; everyone has a quartz watch in their collection—a watch with character.

A strong design

For my 57th birthday, I wanted a really beautiful piece for my collection. I was hesitating between a Nomos and a Tudor Royal. Being a big fan of YouTubers like Dialicious, Les Rhabilleurs (hosted by Nicolas), and Jonas & Alexis. I had the chance to watch a video about King Seiko watches. Afterwards, I contacted him on Instagram for advice on making my choice. I opted for the King Seiko because of its superb red dial and integrated bracelet, which make it a light, classy, and discreet watch.

When vintage meets precision

For this new watch I first wanted a blue dial. And there the dial is great!
A captivating and hypnotizing deep blue dial I also wanted a very Classics and Vintage style.
The style that we find on the watches of the German watchmakers Nomos Glashütte Original.
I opted for a Quartz model even though I know that Quartz watches are selling less and less.

Combining luxury and cool

The brand Nomos Glash&uuml;tte was founded in 1990 by Roland Schwertner in Glash&uuml;tte, Germany. Photographer and computer enthusiast, the founder created this brand between modernity and tradition two months after the fall of the Berlin Wall. His vision was to design timepieces that combine traditional mechanical watchmaking with modern design inspired by Bauhaus watches from the 1930s.
In 1991, the brand launched its first collection of 4 watches, designed by Suzanne Gunther: the Nomos Glash&uuml;tte Ludwig, the Nomos Glash&uuml;tte Orion, the<a href="https://www.dialicious.com/en/nomos_glashutte/tetra_neomatik"> Nomos Tetra Neomatik</a> and the <a href="https://www.dialicious.com/en/nomos_glashutte/tangente">Nomos Tangente</a>. A little gem that I managed to find, a special edition for the Asian market to celebrate the U as a bond. This vital letter in the name of this special model means "Unity", but it also phonetically evokes the English "You". And just as we all have multiple facets, sometimes even opposite, the dial of this watch dares the contrast of colors that is accentuated by a light touch of rose gold. Its 38.5 mm diameter case houses the hand-wound Alpha caliber. This contrast of the black dial with this Californian numeral half Arabic half Roman in ivory color circled by a rose gold line that echoes the hands.

A beating heart, a unique visual

It hasn't left my wrist for several months, and no matter how hard I try to wear the dozen or so watches in my collection, none of them give me that infinite and bewildering visual effect that I can't get enough of. And even more so, being a watch addict like most of the enthusiasts on this site, I continue to tirelessly search for new watches, but I can't find any that could trigger the initial flash of this Nomos. So I haven't bought a watch since this one last April.

So what is so unique about this watch that keeps me from taking it off day and night?

This watch is best appreciated up close, like a fine wine: its details and attributes reveal themselves over time.
First of all, the dial isn't black; it's a very dark charcoal gray. But it can appear quite pale black. The indexes appear beige, a bit like patinated Luminova, but upon closer inspection, they are sage green, and the shade is very subtle. And above all, they are surrounded by a turquoise blue border...

As a result, the whole thing creates the illusion that the indexes are simply green, because this very bright blue, combined with this pale green, creates another green. It's remarkably subtle in terms of visuals and illusion.

Not to mention that at night, these indexes will glow, but in an absolutely surprising bright blue Luminova. Truly magical!

Another thing I hadn't imagined when I was first enchanted by the watch in the photo: the mini seconds hand, which really pops in its nuanced color, ranging from bright orange to red. Especially the hour and minute hands, which are filled with a very white Luminova with a very modern look and, above all, polished edges that capture the light and deceive our eye. In the photos, you can see that they're blue, but that's still an optical illusion...

The reverse California dial adds the final touch, completely confusing us about what's a certain color, what's right side up or upside down, what's symmetrical or not.

I've honestly never seen a dial of such visual finesse, and that's why I have such a hard time wearing the other watches in my collection, which end up boring me too quickly.

And then, you only have to turn the watch over to be equally amazed by this movement, also colorfully decorated, which comes to life in its oscillation, like a pulsating heart, blurring the line between mechanical and organic.

The winding is silky smooth, the precision extremely stable, between 1 and 4 seconds maximum when the barrel spring is properly tensioned.

A psychedelic watch

As a fan of Nomos, I was looking for a mechanical watch with a small diameter and a touch of originality. So I set my sights on this Club Campus. A very deep pink California dial and a very nice fluorescent orange "small seconds" complication. Enough to cheer you up :-) The finishes are of remarkable quality. If I had to make a small criticism, it would be its screwed back which does not allow you to see the movement. The option was available on other dial colors but not on this version. The lugs are a little long but nothing surprising for Nomos. Its light gray strap suits it perfectly and provides a contrast with the flashy dial. A model that I particularly like and which is aimed at a wide audience.

Ma Nomos Club Campus 36mm

After a long search for my first and only mechanical watch, I chose the Club Campus 737 from Nomos. Its rounded contours, generous dial and little touch of color make it a perfect choice for me. This watch is not flashy, but as soon as you look at the finishes, you can't help but notice the attention to detail and the quality of the finishes (especially in terms of the caliber that you can see through a transparent case back). The slightly long lugs put some people off, but personally I don't see any problem with that, the watch fits properly on my wrist. The strap provided with the watch is very pretty. I am fully satisfied.

Conceived from the start as a mechanical watch capable of marking a graduation, a first professional milestone or another important moment in life, it combines a relatively slim sporting case, manual winding and an immediately recognisable dial mixing Arabic and Roman numerals. The first references are offered in 36 and 38.5 mm sizes with a solid caseback deliberately left largely free for personalised engraving.
Despite its position as an entry point into the Nomos world, the Club Campus retains mechanical production in Glash&uuml;tte, a domed sapphire crystal and 100 metres of water resistance. The collection subsequently develops through colour with Future Orange, Deep Pink, Electric Green, Cream Coral, Nonstop Red, Endless Blue, Starlight and Night Sky. Initially powered by the manually wound Alpha calibre, current references now use manufacture calibre DUW 4001 providing up to 53 hours of power reserve.

The 36 mm version currently measures approximately 8.2 mm thick with an 18 mm lug width, while the Club Campus 38 actually measures 38.5 mm in diameter, approximately 8.5 mm thick and has a 20 mm lug width. The cases are made from stainless steel and use mainly polished surfaces, a relatively broad bezel and long curved lugs characteristic of the Club design. On current references, Nomos states approximately 44.3 mm between the lug tips for the 36 mm and around 48.9 mm for the 38.5 mm. Lug length needs to be considered almost as much as diameter when choosing between the two sizes. The crystal is domed sapphire and water resistance reaches 10 atmospheres, or 100 metres, making swimming possible when the watch is correctly maintained. Club Campus watches launched in 2017 and the numerous variations produced through 2025 use the Alpha calibre, a manually wound mechanical movement developed and manufactured by Nomos in Glash&uuml;tte. This calibre is only 2.6 mm thick, has 17 jewels, a three-quarter plate, blued screws, stop-seconds and traditional Glash&uuml;tte finishing. Its power reserve is stated at around 43 hours. The technical sheets for the Night Sky and Starlight novelties of February 2025 still clearly specify this Alpha calibre. Current official pages now display the DUW 4001, of the same general dimensions but with a power reserve reaching 53 hours, the NOMOS Swing System, DUW regulation system and adjustment in six positions. The recent move to DUW 4001 increases autonomy without changing the manual-winding ritual that forms part of the identity of the Club Campus. The watch therefore retains an extremely slim movement, explaining why even the 38.5 mm version remains limited to approximately 8.5 mm thick despite its 100 metres of water resistance. Its galvanised white-silver dial combines Arabic numerals, Roman numerals and markers, with a substantial amount of luminous material for night-time reading. The small-seconds display at 6 o&rsquo;clock is animated by an orange hand that adds a more playful note to the very clear design. The manually wound Alpha calibre is only 2.6 mm thick and provides around 43 hours of power reserve in its original configuration. The case measures approximately 8.2 mm thick and has an 18 mm lug width. The steel back leaves enough space for personalised engraving, a major element in the positioning of the Campus as a watch given to celebrate graduation or another important milestone.
(2017) Nomos Club Campus 38 Silver:
The 38 version offers exactly the same philosophy in a format with greater wrist presence. The Nomos Club Campus 38 735 has an actual diameter of 38.5 mm, thickness of around 8.5 mm and a 20 mm lug width. Its white-silver dial uses the same mixture of Roman and Arabic numerals, accompanied by strongly luminous markers and hands. The orange seconds hand animates the small-seconds display at 6 o&rsquo;clock. The crystal remains domed sapphire and water resistance reaches 100 metres, giving this manually wound and relatively elegant watch greater versatility than many very slim dress watches. Case length approaches 48.9 mm between the lug tips, a point worth considering on a slender wrist. The manually wound Alpha calibre provides around 43 hours of power reserve on historical versions. The screwed steel back can receive the personalised engraving offered by Nomos and contributes directly to the concept of a lasting gift associated with the range.
(2021) Nomos Club Campus 38 Future Orange:
Future Orange marks an important stage in the transformation of Campus into a genuine colour collection. The Nomos Club Campus 38 Future Orange 729 is introduced in 2021 in the particular context of graduations and achievements that could not always be celebrated normally in 2020 and 2021. The vivid orange dial deliberately seeks to symbolise a new beginning and an optimistic view of the future. The case retains its 38.5 mm diameter, approximately 8.5 mm thickness, domed sapphire crystal and 100 metres of water resistance. Roman and Arabic numerals remain combined on the dial and luminous markers maintain effective reading as light levels fall. The movement at the time is the manually wound Alpha calibre with around 43 hours of autonomy. A steel caseback allows individual engraving offered by the brand. The grey or anthracite strap deliberately creates a calmer contrast with the highly saturated dial and helps retain a certain degree of versatility despite the spectacular colour.
(2022) Nomos Club Campus Deep Pink 36:
Deep Pink develops the idea of a Campus capable of becoming a highly personal object rather than simply an entry-level mechanical watch. The Nomos Club Campus Deep Pink 711 uses the compact 36 mm case with approximately 8.2 mm thickness and an 18 mm lug width. The intense pink dial is associated with the characteristic Arabic and Roman numerals of the series, together with a coloured small seconds that strengthens the contrast. Domed sapphire protects the dial and the case remains water-resistant to 100 metres. The manually wound Alpha calibre retains its 17 jewels, three-quarter-plate architecture and a power reserve of around 43 hours. The screwed steel back leaves a broad area for engraving and can transform the watch into a commemorative object. The 36 mm diameter makes this colour particularly easy to wear for someone wanting a colourful watch without imposing a large dial surface on the wrist. The grey strap also helps calm the overall appearance visually.
(2023) Nomos Club Campus 38 Electric Green:
Electric Green continues the annual rhythm of vivid Club Campus colours in 2023 and becomes one of the most immediately visible executions in the collection. The Nomos Club Campus 38 Electric Green 726 uses an extremely bright green dial inside a polished 38.5 mm case measuring around 8.5 mm thick. Despite the spectacular colour, legibility remains strong thanks to the large contrasting numerals and markers together with hands filled with Super-LumiNova. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres and uses a domed sapphire crystal, allowing much freer everyday use than a traditional dress watch. The manually wound Alpha calibre powers hours, minutes and small seconds and provides around 43 hours of autonomy on the launch generation. The solid back retains space for a personalised inscription. The 20 mm strap width makes it easy to pair the watch with more neutral straps to reduce the impact of the dial or, conversely, with complementary colours to emphasise its character.
(2024) Nomos Club Campus 38 Nonstop Red:
Nonstop Red is one of the principal colours introduced in 2024 and gives the Club Campus an especially energetic identity. The Nomos Club Campus 38 Nonstop Red 723 uses a strong red dial combined with luminous numerals, markers and hands whose blue glow creates a spectacular contrast in darkness. The polished stainless-steel case retains its 38.5 mm diameter, approximately 8.5 mm thickness and 100 metres of water resistance. Domed sapphire protects the dial and the screwed steel caseback still provides the space required for engraving. The manually wound Alpha calibre provides around 43 hours of power reserve on this generation. Long lugs contribute to the sporting character of the case but can make the watch wear larger than its diameter might suggest. The grey velour strap limits visual competition with the red dial.
