The must-have Macro Loupe for all watch lovers

I bought this Omega Speedmaster Mark II (ref. 327.10.43.50.01.001) in 2023, somewhat on impulse, drawn to its retro look and strong personality. And ever since... it hasn't left my side.

From the first glance, I knew it was different. The cushion-shaped case, all brushed steel, solid yet elegant, immediately took me back to the 1970s, to a time when watchmaking was bold. And yet, everything inside is modern. The Co-Axial movement is a marvel of precision and fluidity. You can tell this watch is built to last.

What I love about it is that it doesn't try to copy the Moonwatch. It has its own style. And yet, it remains a Speedmaster, with all the history, heritage, and legitimacy that implies.

I've worn it while traveling, during casual moments, and in my everyday life, and it always fits in naturally. It catches the eye, but subtly. It's not a "bling" watch; it's a watch that speaks to those in the know.

In a word? Authentic.
And for me, that's what makes all the difference.

A Speedmaster apart, with a real soul

The C-02 Héritage nobat piqued my interest because the brand's offices are just a few blocks from mine. As a dive watch enthusiast and a keen observer of their history, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms really spoke to me, and Akrone was open about its inspiration. Along with the release of the Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms, it was a no-brainer to get closer to this model with its France Ebauche movement.
After trying the watch on their premises, I placed an order a few weeks later and came to pick it up. Two very enjoyable moments, with people talking about their passion for watches, the history of their brand, and their work. We didn't keep track of the time; it was very informative.
The watch itself is very distinctive; it makes no secret of its status as a tool watch. So far, it's the most expensive watch they've sold, due to the movement stamped into the case. It's very present on the wrist, not so much for its diameter (41mm), but for its thickness (14.4mm), mainly due to the domed glass.
Its fully brushed case currently bears no marks, despite wearing it almost every weekday.
It's solid, precise, has character, and is from Nantes! Perfect? Not in every way.
After the honeymoon period, you always find little things to criticize. If I had to name them, they would be the straps without much added value, the metal is too bulky and the rubber a bit coarse, the balls are truly enormous.
I put a black Tropic from Joseph Bonnie on it and voila, it was perfect!
The lume is really not its strong point; it's not powerful and doesn't last very long.
We can also criticize the hands, which look a bit cheap and are too long, hiding the track, and are less easy to adjust because of the domed glass. An important piece of information that wasn't on their website: it's self-winding, but unidirectional, meaning the watch is wound only in one direction. This causes a loud noise from the balance wheel as it spins in a vacuum. Personally, I like it!
This is my daily watch during the week and it's set to +1.5 seconds per day, which is perfect.
I'm patiently waiting for the new 39mm C-02s, which will be released in summer 2025! A silver-plated steel case, a black dial, a not-too-domed crystal, a crown protector, perhaps simpler, less technical straps, and a thickness of around 11mm—it would be perfection.

A daily newspaper that stands the test of time

Having stumbled upon this model by chance, it was love at first sight.
The dimensions are compact: 38 mm lug to lug, 30 mm square, and 4.5 mm thick, equipped with the 430P mechanical movement.
The problem was finding the 90930 yellow gold case with Roman numerals on alligator, the most desirable in my eyes.
What a hassle! An Italian model posted an ad on Ch24, and I headed to Riccione to pick up this beautiful piece.
Despite a slightly damaged dial (a scale under the VII) and a few micro-scratches, the deal was done.
Of course, Piaget would restore it. The restoration was done to my great delight, but not that of my banker. 😁
Its Art Deco style makes it a model that doesn't go unnoticed, sparking discussions at flea markets, restaurants, etc.
On the wrist, the finesse is incredible. They don't make them like this anymore.
In short, I'm crazy about them.

For my 40th birthday, I wanted to mark the occasion.

Not with a watch that's everywhere.
Not with yet another mass-produced model sold by the thousands, displayed on every wrist on a terrace.

I wanted something different.

Something more personal, rarer, more authentic, something discreet.

My choice fell on the Patek Philippe 5035G, the very first annual calendar watch ever produced in the history of watchmaking. A discreet but major innovation, launched in 1996, it left its mark on its era without ever seeking to shine. A simple and elegant white gold case, a black dial, an ingenious movement... and above all, the feeling of having on your wrist a piece that only true enthusiasts know.

When discretion hides innovation

The Addiesdave SD1970 Blue, often affectionately called the "Blue Turtle," is an automatic diver's watch that pays homage to the iconic Seiko 6105, popularized by Martin Sheen in the film "Apocalypse Now." Here's a detailed description of this model:

Dive into the Heart of the Addiesdave SD1970 Blue

I decided to think outside the box for my 35th birthday. I wanted a less "mainstream" watch, more edgy, less recognizable by enthusiasts, but a timepiece that had its own distinct identity and was nonetheless distinguished by watch enthusiasts. Moreover, having a chicken wrist, when I saw that Pioneer Central Seconds was releasing an Arctic Blue in 40MM, I didn't hesitate for a single second.
It's simply splendid, understated, icy, marvelous, even hypnotic. A magnificent watch (summery in my case), not to mention the rubber strap, which is of very good quality.

This is the first watch in the luxury segment that I have purchased and it is the one that by far gives me the most beautiful emotion. Everything in this watch is in the details and reflects an indisputable Japanese know-how. The champagne dial presents plays of light that are reflected in the polished zaratsu indexes. Precision is also a must (drift from 0 measured at my watchmaker) with the old generation high beat caliber as well as the shape of the dauphine hands which precisely indicate the time. It is a piece that is little known in the catalog but which has a lot to offer!

My favorite watch in my collection

Bought just a month ago, it was a purchase that was love at first sight.
My father was a career soldier and had quite a few watches including a Luminox that was lost during an operation.
When I saw this black Citizen in the window, it clicked in my head.
A diver's look with a tractor heart, that's what I call it because it's waterproof to 100m without a screw-down crown powered by a Miyota 8200 (+15 seconds per day for me)
Comfortable rubber strap but quite hard the first few times I wore this watch.
Quite large size but it's OK (46.2mm).
Sober but original at the same time with its orange minute hand.
Very well-made luminescent hands and indexes.
For €199 (I got it a little cheaper because it was out of the catalog), it's for me a very good alternative to the Seiko 5 sport.

The Japanese tractor that thinks it's a diver

Watch given to me by my wife for the birth of our son in 2008.

I had hesitated for a long time with the blue version and since my father-in-law had it I didn't particularly want to have the same one as him, but I was especially afraid of getting tired of it, regretfully because it's still not the same as James Bond's.

It's really beautiful, I find it very versatile both in sports mode and well dressed for an event, a very comfortable, reliable and functional chic sports model.

I wear it quite often because it's a perfect diver, quite thin because it's a quartz version, top lume, superb wavy dial, domed sapphire and approved by Bond.



The 007 watch in black version

Watch given in 2000 by my wife 25 years ago and still functional.
I wore it frequently for almost 8 years but since then it has been stored in my watch box and it very rarely returns to my wrist.
At the time I loved wearing red in my outfits, so it seemed obvious to have a watch of this wrist color.

Being a diver and wanting to acquire a diver's watch, I naturally turned to the emblematic models of several brands. Having bought it without trying it on, I was initially surprised and in doubt as to its diameter (36), it is ultimately the watch that I wear most often.

An experience in its own right

A bit of poetry with this superb SBGE305 whose dial is inspired by the Hotaka mountain!
Beyond poetry, this dial is just incredible and goes from sunburst red to matte burgundy in the blink of an eye.
In addition to that, proportions for a diver that suit my chicken wrist and above all a well-respected balance.
The movement is not left out with the famous Spring drive of the Japanese house.

The abstract chrono

I feel a certain peace of mind in owning my Omega Seamaster Diver 300M. It is a faithful ally in everyday adventures and life's unexpected events, during which it never lets me down! (And vice versa!)
Its robustness is no longer in doubt. Although it takes care of my diver, it sometimes happens to face here and there corners of furniture, rocks, my wife's rings and roughness of everyday life, which it continues to overcome with valour. The quality of the sapphire crystal makes it almost scratchproof, while its deep and captivating black dial (to the depths of the abyss?) contrasts with the clear and luminous character of the indexes. Visibility is excellent. When I think about it a little, I almost see an explosion of fireworks in the dark night, or the light of an anglerfish of the abyss! I like its deep character, without the waves of the very latest versions that I find less successful. After all, don't they say "Less is more"?
The date window at 3 o'clock (in black) fits very well into the dial without distorting its harmony. The skeleton sword hands are particularly easy to read and pleasant to look at, while the vermeil tip of the second hand recalls the "Seamaster" applique on the dial: the primary contrast "black / white / red" is all the simpler and more striking. We find circles, triangles (end of the minute hand) and rectangles in an ode to geometry.
The shape of the wave bezel reminds me of a ship's helm, it is both precise and handy, perfect for measuring a time interval to the nearest minute. The robustness of the case and the complementarity of the bezel / date functions make this Seamaster Diver 300M a particularly practical watch for everyday use. Its 41 mm diameter (47 mm lug to lug) could make it seem sturdy, but it is not. In reality, it fits very well on an average wrist, the work on the curvature of the lugs and the birth of the bracelet make it much less thick than it seems. Its thickness of 13 mm allows it to slip easily under a shirt sleeve or a sweater.
It fits very well with its original steel deployant bracelet that I would describe as very well made and of rare comfort. Its diving extension allows it to be put on or taken off quickly and easily, and this is far from being anecdotal for those who have wide hands. Its passage on a NATO bracelet immediately gives it a very good maritime and summery side, and it obviously takes without problem a swim in the Pacific, a dive in the Mediterranean or simple lengths in a swimming pool.
Its stylistic adaptability allows it to evolve in different casual, smart-casual and business-casual clothing styles... Even business formal for the most daring of those who would like to break the codes like 007! (Although I personally wouldn't risk it, out of respect for the codes of masculine elegance. Not everyone can be James Bond...) 
Unless you wear a full suit all week, it's an incredible "daily". If I hesitate between several watches before starting my day, it's definitely the one that will be the lucky one of the day.
Its daily deviation is measured at +1 sec/day to +2 sec/day, for a monthly deviation of less than a minute. A largely tolerable drift, the time adjustment can thus be carried out every two months (or even 3 months after July/August/September) with the date reset to 1. The Seamaster Diver 300M is striking in my eyes, in an explosion of simplicity (and not simplism) and emotion. It is a fantastic watch to wear every day.

Adjectives that qualify it: adaptable - readable - simple - practical

Diving into everyday life in complete decompression

I was looking for a beautiful all-purpose diver's watch that I could wear every day. So I went to a boutique in Paris known for its large selection and, after trying several, set my sights on this superb Ocean Star 600. Its magnificent, slightly sunray blue dial and its ceramic bezel complementing this dial in a very harmonious way seduced me right away, the COSC certification drove the point home, and hey presto, I kept it on my wrist! It is still imposing but ultimately fits very well on my 17 cm wrist which, thanks to a perfect finish of the case and an excellent quality bracelet with its mirror-polished links in the center, gives it an elegant look while remaining sporty. Concerning the precision, it is amazing, the drift is almost non-existent. The extreme water resistance of 60 ATM was not essential for me, 20 ATM would have been enough, the helium valve is useless for me, but the beauty likes to show her muscles and ultimately it is rather reassuring to know that she is not going to drown during a few serious swimming sessions. I did not find any negative point to this watch that I wear regularly.

She is imposing

This is the first complicated watch that I bought for myself when my first book came out. At the time, I didn't know much about watchmaking other than the most famous brands. I first thought about buying a skeletonized Tissot with manual winding, but I saw in the store that for the same price, I could have other complications in addition, such as the date and the moon phase. That's what made me fall for this Frederique Constant Classic Heart Beat Moonphase.

The case is made of yellow gold-plated steel. Its silver dial is decorated with a clous de Paris motif, an ornamentation obtained by guilloché that has the shape of pyramidal nail heads with small grooves between each nail. It is partially skeletonized with a round opening at 12 o'clock called "Heart Beat" and which allows, as its name suggests, to see the heartbeat of the watch. At 6 o'clock, there is a moon phase window. The indexes are equipped with printed Roman numerals and the hands are Breguet type, recognizable by their small eccentrically hollowed-out circles. The case back is open and allows you to see its rotor with Côtes de Genève finishes, a famous pattern composed of a series of wavy streaks. Finally, the strap is made of calfskin with crocodile pattern.

The strong point of this watch is its value for money. It is rare to see so many complications in this price range. Its vintage side is pleasant but can be a little old-fashioned. It is not a watch that can be worn on all occasions. On the negative side, I deplore the imprecision of the indexes. There is a circular railway but it does not correspond to the minutes. In addition, the inscription of the dates all around the dial as well as its pointer can be confused with the minutes.

A year of research to find the perfect watch for me. I absolutely wanted a small diameter in yellow gold on alligator, Roman numerals, for the very elegant side, an extremely complicated task these days, Cartier was my first choice, the Tank then the Santos-Dumont, for the history (first wristwatch), the elegance, however during my research, the mechanical winding became another criterion, for the interaction, the search is more and more complicated, the Cartier are quartz and the Santos-Dumont is not the first wristwatch.

I am inexorably pushed towards vintage watches and second-hand watches, which I do not like.
I think copies, DIY watches, merguez. I spin chrono24 to find the model.
Rolex Oyster perpetual 34 mm, Franck Muller, Blancpain, IWC, meet my gaze, no emotion.
I'll spare you the chapter on prices that I find very high on certain models. ANYWAY, let's move on.

The purchase of this watch is motivated by moments of pleasure, I want to feast my eyes.

And there, my gaze fell on this 5907, a real love at first sight, but no longer produced, it is extremely complicated to find second-hand.

One day, I want to give up, one day, I am ready to take the plane to look for one abroad and then, an ad in France.
Wary, I contact the Parisian seller, the atmosphere relaxes, trust is there.
I go up to Paris and the deal is done.
Since then it is attached to my wrist, impossible to remove it, I play with the light, look at the details with a magnifying glass,

So beautiful

What a watch with this TV box!! My first desire was to acquire a summer watch, so I chose the superb blue dial with gray highlights and hollowed indexes on an orange rubber strap: a perfect combo in my opinion. Between the satin and the mirror-polished, this box is dazzling. To top it all off (no pun intended) a large date complication with automatic movement caliber 80 for a very affordable price positioning. I love it!!

A 70s watch with a real identity design

I find myself looking at my watch for long minutes, my beating heart is visible thanks to the openwork dial, the central guilloche is magnificent which gives depth to the dial. The hands are very beautiful, of the Breguet type (hands with a hollowed-out apple), the moon phase is also very well done.

The charm of the jigsaw

This Direnzo Solaris (DRZ 05) is one of the only watches with a double crown that I know how to appreciate.
I was not initially captivated but having not been disappointed by any model of the brand I decided to get one.
As soon as I received it I was fascinated by the work on the case, the shape is just perfect and the inclined chamfers on the top of the horns give the watch such a distinguished look!
I am not a fan of the "BoR" bracelets but I must admit that the comfort is there, but I prefer it on leather. The dial is very nice and the internal bezel carried by the upper crown is pretty and pleasant to handle. The play of tones on the sectored dial is remarkable and the reflections of the watch according to the light are great. The SW200-1 grade elaborate does the job, my DRZ are all between 0 and +4sec day (with the exception of one at +7)...
Once again it's hard not to be charmed, you can recognize the designer's touch at first glance and this model which was for me at the beginning an outsider of the brand quickly became my favorite. Really one of the most beautiful cases in my collection.

An incredible case but not only that!!

I first bought this watch by chance, having already a PRX, the question of another watch with an integrated bracelet had not come to my mind. 
I first bought one at a very competitive price on LBC and there was a huge crush. I who really liked my PRX, it has not left the box since I discovered the Mondial. 
The watch is extremely comfortable, the bracelet is at the top, flexible, elegant, refined from the case to the buckle with class. 
The dial is fantastic, its bowl shape is a signature of the brand and is available with many colors, each more delightful than the last. The skeletonized hands are very harmonious with once again this lolipop second hand which eclipses the date window demonstrates the attention to detail and the ingenuity of the creator. The watch is of a very reasonable size and can be forgotten on the wrist, it has everything you need for a perfect daily. A very good SW200-1, a screw-down crown, an 800HV coating on the watch which makes it much less sensitive to scratches than some (PRX for example :D...), the original dial with its finely worked indexes.
This watch is an undeniable beauty, I have not seen any watch with an integrated bracelet that rivals and provides such emotion. It is the queen of integrated bracelets, it does not play in the same league as the "competition".

My first Direnzo, very pretty watch with a super comfortable oyster-type bracelet. Top finishes, and the play of the second hand which eclipses the date window is very nice. For my 20cm wrist the watch is ideal, beautiful brushed case with a well thought-out chamfer. The bowl-shaped dial is very original, the indexes give a good relief to the whole. Pretty textures on the dial with very light touches of color, the watch is fantastic. Remarkably comfortable and the level of finishes offered by Sergio is just incredible for the price. I'm a fan of the brand!!

Stunning

I have had the watch for about 6 months, and I wear it regularly, alternating with my other watches. I mainly like dress watches and I was looking for one that was a little sportier without being exuberant. 
After 2 years of waiting, I placed an order. From then on, I was contacted to choose a dial, several patinas are offered (photos and videos), the customer service is very responsive. 
The box received includes a handwritten note (very appreciable), a leaflet, a storage box, a travel case and the warranty card in its leather storage. The user experience is great on this point. 

Concerning the watch: 

Despite a 40.5mm dial and as I have read several times, it seems smaller and this is an excellent point in my opinion (much smaller than my Seiko Presage Cockatail BlueMoon of the same diameter). Its 18mm lug width, the "checkered" upper and lower parts of the dial and the railway also bring a certain finesse that contrasts with the raw hood of the DB5. 
This is the very essence of this purchase. A piece of history. What's more, it is very aesthetic, the play of light sublimates the imperfections that diffract the light and offers us a subtle shine. 
The red seconds hand is really essential in the balance of the watch. A tone-on-tone hand would have seemed blander to me, here the red brings character to the piece. 

The black PVD case allows the dial to stand out better than on the raw stainless steel version. The hollowed and curved lugs, the edition number and the crown dress this case well. However, the crown is not necessarily easy to handle. The back of the case offers a sapphire to observe the movement. Here I am clearly much more circumspect, the movement is not or little decorated, but especially the mass does not provide any emotion, too bad. A solid back with a DB5 (complete or grille or whatever) would have been much more in keeping with the theme. 

I chose the original bracelet and in my opinion it works better than all those offered on the site. It remains a matter of taste. It is flexible and very comfortable, a real good point. However, at the beginning the leather squeaked a lot at the level of the lug. Fortunately this has greatly diminished or even disappeared. I preferred to change the buckle to put a deployant to preserve the bracelet over time. 

In general we talk about the best for the end, I will have to deviate from this rule by talking about the movement. We are talking about a Miyota 8215 for a watch at 900€ including delivery, it hurts a little, especially when I see my Akrone C-04 with a 9039 for around 400€. I am not a movement specialist or a precision fanatic. Given that I change watches every day, they inevitably end up stopping, so whether they are at +5 or +20 seconds at the end of the day, it does not bother me. The big black point that anyone will be able to notice very quickly is the excessive noise of the oscillating weight, more than the 9039 which is also not very discreet. Of all my watches, it is perhaps the noisiest. After all, it is a robust and reliable movement, no worries in the future. 

Conclusion: 
I still love it as much, despite the noise of the bracelet (at the beginning only) and the movement (unfortunately forever) I can only recommend this watch. This is the principle of impulse buying, not necessarily reasonable but very satisfying.

Aside: Hop hop hop, little news. I ended up noticing a shift in the alignment of the hands. After contacting the after-sales service, I sent the watch at my own expense and it came back to me perfectly adjusted this time about 1 month later.

My three criteria in choosing a watch: a caliber of the brand, automatic and a visual crush. The master ultra thin is my first pertetual. It is light, discreet, elegant. I initially leaned towards the Reverso but I "left" this model to my wife.
