My first steps into this vast world of watches were not easy. I needed a watch that reflected my personality, thus being discreet, and driven by a similar philosophy. To be honest, during my almost six months of research, I never really hesitated, considering the stated criteria. My budget was a maximum of €3,000 in case of a major crush, and the movement, although one naturally hopes for it to be automatic at this price point, wasn't a problem for me if I ended up acquiring a quartz watch. Another requirement was that the case be no larger than 38 mm. My approach was simple and quickly focused on three watches: - Longines Conquest, - 1926 Tudor - Grand Seiko Heritage Collection Quartz At Tudor, I really fell for the 36 mm anthracite Black Bay, but it was out of my budget. Also, the Royal hadn't convinced me, and the 1926 wasn't available in the store with its opaline dial. Finally, I saw that the Grand Seiko I'd been eyeing was available at Seiko Lille, and the salesperson also offered me the chance to try on a King Seiko KSK, which had some real appeal, but for months, my mind had been completely charmed by the lion brand. Once I put it on my wrist, there was no doubt it was the one for me. Today, a month and a half later, I'm captivated by this watch, which is deceptively simple. Its all-terrain appeal allows me to wear it every day, and its champagne dial reveals a play of light on a bed of silk, enhanced by the reflection of the sun's rays on the polished indexes thanks to the now-famous Zaratsu technique, which clearly makes a difference. The color sometimes tends towards silver depending on the lighting, and it's fantastic! The bezel is a true mirror and adds a very chic touch without overdoing it. As for the movement, what more can I say about this quartz watch? It's truly something special. I refer you to the official website, which explains its special features well. In short, I'm happy to be part of this "small" Japanese community that can only grow every day and deserves more attention than it receives, at a time when many swear only by Swiss watches. Grand Seiko is Grand, yes! We'll never take that adjective away from it. It brings me even more serenity and perfectly suits my character and outlook on life.
